Preservación de fertilidad en pacientes con cáncer.45% de mujeres que reciben quimioterapia, sufren fallos en sus ovarios.Se aprobó por unanimidad en el Parlamento el proyecto de ley que asegura la preservación de la fertilidad para pacientes oncológicos a través del Fondo Nacional de Recursos (FNR). Si bien aún falta la reglamentación de esta ley, todo paciente oncológico menor de cuarenta años debe ser informado sobre los riesgos de infertilidad que le puede provocar su tratamiento contra el cáncer sobre la posibilidad de recurrir a la preservación de ovocitos y espermatozoides con la financiación del FNR.En Uruguay el 5% de los pacientes oncológicos tiene menos de 40 años.En el caso de las mujeres, “el procedimiento para extraer los óvulos dura dos semanas implica ingreso al block quirúrgico con una pequeña anestesia de 15 minutos y luego se puede iniciar el tratamiento oncológico enseguida”En el caso de los hombre ese procedimiento es mucho sencillo.
