Peter Quill, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and literal toddler Baby Groot. The GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY!  They take a job from gold lady Ayesha to protect some batteries from a space squid monster, which they do, in exchange for Gamora's sister. But then Rocket immediately steals those same batteries because of course he does. CLASSIC Rocket. This leads to an all-out attack, a crash landing into a ship planet thing that just kind of appears, and the arrival of a mysterious shirtless dad: Ego. Surprise! He's Quill's father.  Ego invites Quill, Gamora, and Drax to his planet, while Rocket and Groot stay behind with Nebula to keep an eye on her. Peter and Ego hash things out. He explains why he wasn't around but says he wants to be the father he always hoped to be now.  Meanwhile, blue whistle boy Yondu is hired to track them down. Things go sideways FAST when Yondu refuses not to give up Quill location. He ends up being imprisoned with Rocket and Groot, but they escape with some wild arrow work. Back on Planet Daddy Issues, Ego reveals he's basically a god who's been planting himself all over the universe (red flag), having kids everywhere (bigger red flag), and murdering them when they don't have powers (biggest red flag).  Oh, and he casually admits he gave Quill's mom a brain tumor. Cool cool cool. Quill snaps, the team reunites, and it becomes a full-on “let's destroy dad” situation. They head to Ego's literal brain at the planet's core, plant a bomb. The bomb goes off, Ego is toast, and Quill loses his powers in the process. But the emotional gut punch? Yondu sacrifices himself to save Quill, proving he was his real dad all along. we cry. You cry. Everyone cries.  the Ravagers show up to give Yondu the send-off he deserved all along. And we get a thousand mid credit scenes and none of them matter. Dans ce nouvel épisode de ComicsDiscovery, on revient sur Resurrection Man, la nouvelle série signée Ram V et Anand RK, publiée chez Urban Comics. Le personnage, assez atypique dans l'univers DC, revient à la vie après chaque mort avec de nouveaux pouvoirs. Ici, les auteurs proposent une version plus sombre sous le label DC Black Label. En parallèle, l'épisode met aussi en avant la scène indépendante. On accueille Cloé Peche, venue présenter son projet de bande dessinée Cerise Noire, actuellement en financement participatif sur Ulule. Une discussion qui fait le lien entre comics mainstream et création indépendante, fidèle à l'ADN de ComicsDiscovery. Resurrection Man De la pêche à la ceriseOn commence avec notre invitée Cloé Peche, qui nous parle de Cerise Noire. L'histoire se déroule à l'Académie de Bellune et suit des jumeaux pris dans un jeu d'identité, où l'un prend la place de l'autre. Le point de départ est solide. Le projet s'inscrit dans une série prévue sur plusieurs tomes, avec une approche proche du manga en couleur. Ensuite, elle revient sur son parcours. Elle a étudié le dessin à Chambéry avec Matthieu Bablet, avant de travailler comme coloriste sur plusieurs planches de Silent Jenny, un titre qu'on évoque aussi dans l'émission. Cet échange met en lumière un métier essentiel de la bande dessinée, encore trop peu abordé. C'est l'occasion de reparler de Ram V, un auteur qu'on a déjà croisé plusieurs fois dans ComicsDiscovery, notamment avec Le Dernier Festin de Rubin ou encore son passage sur Swamp Thing. Depuis quelques années, il s'impose comme une voix forte du comics contemporain. Il navigue entre indé et mainstream tout en gardant une identité marquée. Par ailleurs, ses origines indiennes nourrissent son écriture. Cela se ressent dans les thèmes, les ambiances ou certaines constructions narratives. Rien de forcé, mais une vraie couleur qui apporte quelque chose de différent dans le paysage comics. De son côté, Anand RK confirme ce qu'on avait déjà vu sur Blue in Green. Son style reste immédiatement reconnaissable. Il propose des planches organiques, parfois expérimentales, qui accompagnent parfaitement l'écriture de Ram V. Ensemble, ils cherchent clairement à sortir des codes classiques du super-héros. Un personnage culte mais discretAvant cette version, Resurrection Man restait un personnage à part dans l'univers DC. Créé dans les années 90 par Dan Abnett et Andy Lanning, Mitch Shelley revient à la vie après chaque mort, avec un nouveau pouvoir à chaque fois. Ce concept permet de varier les histoires, les tons et même les genres. Cependant, malgré cette idée forte, le personnage n'a jamais vraiment trouvé sa place sur la durée. Il apparaît de manière ponctuelle, notamment pendant les New 52, sans s'imposer durablement. Ce statut laisse aujourd'hui plus de liberté aux auteurs pour proposer leur propre vision. Une relecture ambitieuse mais clivanteAvec Resurrection Man, Ram V et Anand RK prennent une direction très ambitieuse. Ils s'éloignent du récit de super-héros classique pour proposer quelque chose de plus conceptuel. La narration éclate la chronologie, multiplie les allers-retours et aborde des thèmes comme la mort, l'amour ou la mémoire. Cependant, de notre côté, ça ne fonctionne pas vraiment. À force d'accumuler les idées, le récit devient chargé. La lecture se complique et l'implication émotionnelle reste limitée. On a davantage l'impression de suivre une démonstration qu'une histoire qui nous embarque. En revanche, le travail de Anand RK sort clairement du lot. Sa mise en page se libère des codes classiques et propose une vraie recherche visuelle. C'est lui qui donne au titre son identité. My latest interview is with the Ultramarines movie director, Martyn Pick. Released in 2010, Ultramarines was the first feature length film set in the 40k universe. David Roden, Steve Lockley and Paul Lewis, Robert Shearman and Simon Jowett write the stories presented. Featuring the Tenth Doctor and Martha Jones, we today speak to Dan, Steve, Paul and Simon about their work on this book.
