Presentar una marca hoy ya no se trata solo de mostrar un producto impecable o una oferta irresistible. La audiencia busca otra cosa: quiere sentir que detrás de un logo existe alguien real. Julián Ocampo, fundador de Play For Fun y creador de la Escuela UGC, lo entiende como pocos. Su mirada parte de algo simple, pero profundo: las personas conectan con personas, y esa conexión es la que termina diferenciando a un negocio en un mundo donde todos compiten por la misma atención. En este nuevo escenario digital, Julián asevera que la frontera que antes separaba a la marca personal de la marca comercial prácticamente desaparece. "Humanizar la marca es hacer que en redes sociales aparezca un ser humano para vender el contenido… Hoy se ven marcas comerciales humanizadas y hay negocios cuyas cuentas parecen de un influencer", sostiene. A partir de esa transformación, la presencia del dueño del emprendimiento (su forma de hablar, su energía, su historia) se vuelve un activo capaz de transmitir confianza y cercanía de una manera que ningún anuncio tradicional logra. Pero más allá del cambio cultural, humanizar una marca también es una ventaja estratégica. En un entorno donde todos ofrecen productos similares, la diferencia real aparece cuando se conecta emocionalmente con la audiencia. Julián lo resume con claridad: "Humanizar una marca es una de las mejores herramientas… cuando uno humaniza una marca y logra una conexión con el público la gente te elige por sentirse a gusto contigo". Y es justamente en esa conexión donde una marca deja de competir por precio y pasa a competir por vínculo. La autenticidad cumple un rol esencial en todo este proceso. No se trata de montar un personaje ni de copiar las fórmulas que funcionan en otros perfiles. Julián elige mostrarse tal cual es, y esa coherencia se convierte en parte de su valor. Lo explica con naturalidad: "Tenemos que presentarnos auténticos… Yo soy así en la vida real y lo muestro frente a la cámara. Eso terminó haciendo que la gente me quiera comprar a mí". Su contenido no solo entretenía: hacía que la gente sintiera que lo conocía. Construir este tipo de relación no es inmediato. Requiere constancia y un enfoque que vaya más allá del corto plazo. "La construcción de una marca, donde la audiencia se vuelve fan, lleva dos años en promedio", afirma nuestro invitado. Ese proceso es el que transforma espectadores en comunidad y compradores ocasionales en seguidores que vuelven una y otra vez. Detrás de su sistema, Julián parte de una observación: para conectar, primero hay que comprender cómo piensa y qué consume la gente. "La metodología que utilizo para construir marcas es observar el comportamiento humano. Llegué a la conclusión de que hay tres tipos de contenido que las personas consumen: el entretenimiento, el educativo y el emotivo", asegura. Why Curiosity May Be the Missing Link in Leadership and Culture Change In this episode of On the Brink with Andi Simon, I had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Deborah Clary, author of The Curiosity Curve and a purpose-driven leader whose work sits at the intersection of leadership development, organizational culture, and performance. What emerged from our conversation was both refreshing and deeply needed: a reminder that curiosity—something many leaders unintentionally abandon as they rise—may be the very capability organizations need most right now . Deborah's journey is anything but linear. Straight out of business school, she began her career not in a corporate office but as a route driver for Frito-Lay in Detroit—wearing a uniform, managing a route, and learning leadership from the inside out. That truck, she says, became her classroom. Over the next four decades, Deborah moved through senior roles at Coca-Cola, Jack Daniel's, and Humana, eventually earning a PhD focused on leadership development and organizational design. Yet it was her growing fascination with human behavior—what makes leaders effective and cultures thrive—that ultimately shaped her work today . What Is Curiosity—Really? Deborah defines curiosity simply but powerfully: being genuinely interested in yourself, in others, and in the situation at hand. It's not about having the right answers. It's about asking better questions—and staying open long enough to explore them. That distinction matters, especially in organizations where leaders often believe their role is to know, decide, and direct. As Deborah shared, many leaders become "incurious" not because they lack interest, but because time pressures, performance demands, and past success reinforce the idea that they must always have the answer. Over time, curiosity is treated like a luxury—when in fact, research shows it is a driver of performance . The Engagement Crisis—and Why Leaders Matter More Than Ever One of the most striking parts of our conversation focused on employee disengagement. Gallup data shows engagement levels at historic lows, with millennials—now a critical segment of the leadership pipeline—showing especially high levels of disengagement. When Deborah and her research team conducted focus groups, they found a consistent theme: "My leader doesn't know me—and doesn't seem to care to know me." This wasn't about surface-level recognition or personal details. Employees wanted leaders to be curious about their ideas, their aspirations, and how they could contribute meaningfully. In other words, they wanted leaders who asked thoughtful questions instead of simply providing directives. Curiosity, Measured—and Made Actionable What makes Deborah's work especially compelling is that curiosity isn't treated as a vague personality trait. Through a validated assessment, she measures curiosity across four dimensions: Exploration Openness to new ideas Inspirational creativity Focused engagement In one executive team she worked with, the results revealed a powerful—and uncomfortable—truth. While most executives scored high in curiosity, the CEO did not. The organization was struggling with innovation, market share, and retention. When the data was shared openly, the CEO recognized that his resistance—not the team—was the bottleneck. His willingness to acknowledge this became a breakthrough moment for the organization . That story underscores a central theme of the episode: leaders shape culture not by intention alone, but by how open—or closed—they are to curiosity. Watch our podcast on YouTube. From Short-Term Answers to Long-Term Leadership Curious leadership, Deborah explained, is about playing the long game. The short game is giving answers. The long game is exploring possibilities, testing ideas, and learning from outcomes—even when they fail. This requires psychological safety. Leaders must normalize statements like, "I don't know—let's explore this together."When leaders model curiosity, they give others permission to think, experiment, and grow. Over time, this builds confidence, ownership, and engagement across the organization . Why This Matters Now? In fast-changing markets, yesterday's solutions rarely solve tomorrow's problems. Yet many organizations still rely on outdated assumptions, rigid hierarchies, and fear of failure. As an anthropologist, I see this pattern often: cultures resist change even when change is essential. Curiosity interrupts that pattern. It helps leaders see what they've been missing, hear voices that have been quiet, and test new ways forward. In Deborah's words, curiosity is contagious—and learnable. It can be rebuilt, one question at a time. If you're a leader navigating uncertainty, disengaged teams, or stalled innovation, this conversation offers both insight and hope. You don't need all the answers. But you do need the courage to ask better questions. And that may be exactly what helps you—and your organization—get off the brink. He emphasizes the importance of integrating social determinants of health along with clinical data to create more accurate predictive scores for patient outcomes, such as reducing hospital readmissions. AI enables a model to incorporate diverse data to derive more fine-tuned, actionable predictions. Mike explains, "We're really all for optimization in value-based care plans and care management. That's really our bread and butter, which is a pretty wide net. So we have a lot of large provider organizations in either CMS MSSP, ACO REACH, or a wide range of value-based care contracts with a lot of the commercial players. The Blues, Humana, Cigna, and Aetna all have value-based care plans that they have contracts with providers. So, optimizing for performance in those contracts. Anybody who works within those is our main clientele. We also have payers that are administering value-based care plans and some hospital systems as well." "If you're good at preventative healthcare, you prevent a lot of unnecessary healthcare. And so risk stratification is something that we do a lot of, and we use a lot of the standard models out there. We have Johns Hopkins embedded into our application. (Natalicio de José Raúl Capablanca) En 1920, el ajedrecista cubano José Raúl Capablanca escribió su obra titulada Mi carrera ajedrecística para promover su candidatura al título de campeón mundial. Dio resultado, ya que el año siguiente, cumplidos sus treinta y dos años, no sólo participó en el Tercer Campeonato Mundial de Ajedrez sino que se coronó campeón con su victoria sobre el entonces poseedor del título, el Gran Maestro alemán Emanuel Lasker, quien renunció después de perder cuatro partidas consecutivas. Pero esa no era la primera vez que había derrotado a Lasker. Lo había logrado hacía quince años, en un torneo de ajedrez rápido en el Club de Ajedrez de Manhattan, Nueva York, en 1906, cuando Capablanca tenía sólo dieciocho años. Entre 1914 y 1924 Capablanca perdió una sola partida, y se mantuvo campeón desde 1921 hasta 1927, cuando perdió el título ante el Gran Maestro ruso-francés Alexander Alekhine. De ahí que su biografía como miembro del Salón de la Fama del Ajedrez Mundial al que fue elegido en el año 2001 constate que José Raúl Capablanca, apodado «la máquina humana del ajedrez», tal vez fuera el mejor jugador natural de todos los tiempos, que derrotaba con frecuencia y aparente facilidad a diversos adversarios que tenían fama mundial.1 En las «Notas del autor» que escribió a modo de prólogo en su libro Mi carrera ajedrecística, Capablanca explica: «Este libro se propone satisfacer el interés general de que yo debiera contar los eventos y circunstancias que me han hecho llegar a lo que soy en el mundo del ajedrez. Al escribirlo, me he esforzado por decir la verdad. Pienso en ciertas partidas, posiciones y otras cosas, a riesgo de parecer en ocasiones extremadamente presuntuoso ante quienes no me conocen bien personalmente. Al engreimiento lo considero una tontería; pero más necia todavía es esa falsa modestia que en vano intenta ocultar lo que todos los hechos tienden a probar. »... Ha habido momentos en mi vida en los que estuve muy cerca de pensar que no podía perder ni un solo juego.
