Dartmoor - home to 35,000 people and a magnet for 11 million visitors every year. How on earth do you balance the moor's delicate eco-system with the demands of the people who live, work and play on it? Devoncast welcomes moorland farmer Peter Harper, who is also a member of the Dartmoor National Park Authority, to talk about what makes the moor special, and how it can be kept that way. Will we one day have to pay to use it? That's not as outlandish as you might think. In Torbay, a new ‘tribe' is on the streets, working to save lives with a fast-acting drug that can reverse the effects of an overdose. And in Seaton the saga of the empty hospital wing shows no signs of being resolved. It's all on the latest edition of Devoncast.

Dustin Brookshire has gathered an impressive array of poetic emulations in When I Was Straight: A Tribute to Maureen Seaton. They include free verse gestures, couplets, tercets, and prose poems. Maureen's influence shines, though is never blinding—each of the poets in this anthology takes her title and makes the poem that follows their own. (From the forward by Denise Duhamel)We read poems from: Kelli Russell Agodon, Sarah Cooper, Aaron DeLee, Caridad Moro-Gronlier, Diamond Forde, and Addie Tsai.Dustin Brookshire (he/him) is the author of the forthcoming chapbook Repeat As Needed (Harbor Editions, 2025) and the chapbooks Never Picked First For Playtime (Harbor Editions, 2023), Love Most Of You Too (Harbor Editions, 2021) and To T he One Who Raped Me (Sibling Rivalry Press, 2012). Love Most Of You Too and Never Picked First For Playtime were finalists in the Poetry Chapbook category of the American Book Fest's Best Book Awards in 2022 and 2023, respectively. Poet Maureen Seaton earned an MFA from Vermont College in 1996. She is the author of the poetry collections Fear of Subways (1991), winner of the Eighth Mountain Poetry Prize; The Sea Among the Cupboards (1992); Furious Cooking (1996), winner of both the Iowa Poetry Prize and a Lambda Literary Award; Little Ice Age (2001); Venus Examines Her Breast (2004), winner of the Publishing Triangle's Audre Lorde Award; and Cave of the Yellow Volkswagen (2009).Using collage techniques to create delight and dissonance, Seaton's poetry has been described as unusual, compressed, and surrealistic. Seaton has explored the possibilities of collaboration throughout her career, writing poetry with Denise Duhamel in such collections as Exquisite Politics (1997), Oyl (2000), and Little Novels (2002). She also collaborated with Samuel Ace on Stealth (2011) and with Neil de la Flor on Sinead O'Connor and Her Coat of a Thousand Bluebirds (2011). Seaton, Duhamel, and David Trinidad edited an anthology titled Saints of Hysteria: A Half-Century of Collaborative American Poetry (2007).Seaton is author of the Lambda Literary Award–winning memoir Sex Talks to Girls (2008), in which she addresses motherhood, sobriety, and sexuality. Are you feeling overwhelmed trying to control everything in your life—your schedule, relationships, or even what others think of you? In this message, Pastor Lisa Seaton breaks down the illusion of control using the movie Jurassic Park as a fun yet powerful metaphor. Just like trying to control dinosaurs is impossible, we often try to control things that are far beyond our reach. There's a difference between trying to control everything around us versus exercising self-control—a fruit of the Spirit. It's not about giving up but about learning to trust God with what's out of your hands and focusing on what you can control: your attitude, actions, and faith.

BUMPER STICKER THEOLOGY | TOO BLESSED TO BE STRESSED?LISA SEATON | AUGUST 18, 2024 Some time later, the Lord spoke to Abram in a vision and said to him, “Do not be afraid, Abram, for I will protect you, and your reward will be great.” But Abram replied, “O Sovereign Lord, what good are all your blessings when I don't even have a son? Since you've given me no children, Eliezer of Damascus, a servant in my household, will inherit all my wealth. You have given me no descendants of my own, so one of my servants will be my heir.” Then the Lord said to him, “No, your servant will not be your heir, for you will have a son of your own who will be your heir.” Then the Lord took Abram outside and said to him, “Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. That's how many descendants you will have!” And Abram believed the Lord, and the Lord counted him as righteous because of his faith.Genesis 15:1-6 (NLT)Support the Show.Visit our Online Campus at Online.timberlakechurch.com, which is live Sundays 9, 10:15, 11:30am, & 5pm Pacific Time.-If you would like to partner with Timberlake and want to support our mission to spread the love of Jesus to the world, please visit https://www.timberlakechurch.com/giveonline to set up a one-time or recurring gift.
