Rall and Stantis dig into the gut-punch reality of economic turmoil fueling widespread ennui. Are sky-high costs and stagnant wages sucking the life out of us? A 2022 Pew Research study ties financial stress to mental health declines, suggesting the link is REAL—and it's brutal. Why are we so damn UNHAPPY? This episode isn't just talk—it's a wake-up call. From Wall Street's tariff tantrums to the quiet despair in our daily grind, DMZ America lays bare the forces shredding our economic and emotional fabric. In this episode I talk about the cause of our anxiety and worry when a relationship is struggling and what you can do to change it starting today. In our coaching, we help men get a powerful new mindset that empowers you to give, love and connect more deeply because you're finally doing that within yourself first. Skills and knowledge that make you feel confident and in control even when chaos is going on around you. It's amazing what you can achieve when you make yourself a priority. Most men don't. In this episode of the Impostor Syndrome Files, we talk about unhappy achievers. We talk far more often about impostor syndrome than we do unhappy achievers yet both are rooted in an unhealthy relationship with achievement. This week, I'm talking with Josh Dodes, a psychotherapist who coined the term “unhappy achievers” to describe professionals who feel unsatisfied, or even empty, despite their high levels of success. Here we talk about the similarities and differences between unhappy achievers and those who struggle with impostor syndrome. We also talk about what we can do as parents to minimize the threat of unhealthy attachments to achievement. And we explore how to know when it's time to seek help.About My GuestJosh Dodes is a psychotherapist in private practice in the Philadelphia area. He studied psychology at Yale, received his master's degree from NYU, and trained at the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Study Center in New York. He coined the term "Unhappy Achievers" in 2017 and was asked to write a blog on the topic for Psychology Today-- a blog which has now connected with more than 150,000 readers. Josh is also a former professional musician who toured internationally with his own band (the Josh Dodes Band, which starred on VH1's Emmy-nominated Bands on the Run) and as a band member for dozens of other artists. Does having children or being married make you more unhappy than single or childless individuals? Many people (rightly) say 'Yes'! That's why more and more people are choosing to remain single, to avoid long-term commitments, and to vow to never have children at all. Because it IS hard and often makes you 'unhappy'.But what if happiness is not the point of life? What if the challenges of marriage and parenting aren't something to avoid, but the very things that make life meaningful? In this episode, we dive into a conversation inspired by a Facebook post that sparked a debate on whether the struggles of raising children and maintaining a marriage are worth it. The Dennings explore the idea that, far from being reasons to quit, these challenges are paths to personal growth, fulfillment, and a more rewarding, meaningful (even if sometimes unhappy), life. They also challenge the modern trend of avoiding discomfort for the sake of comfort and convenience, instead suggesting that leaning into the struggles—whether it's raising kids or nurturing a relationship—is what leads to lasting satisfaction. In fact, just like any skill, marriage, and parenting require knowledge, practice, and the right tools to truly thrive. Not everyone should necessarily pursue marriage or parenthood, but if you choose that path, it's important to do it well. Developing the skills needed to navigate the challenges of family life is essential for creating a fulfilling and meaningful experience. If you've ever felt overwhelmed by the chaos of family life, or if you're on the fence about whether marriage and family are right for you, this episode offers insights and encouragement to help you not just survive but thrive. And if you're ready to develop those skills, we can help you with the tools you need to create the Extraordinary Family Life of your dreams.RESOURCES:Let us help you in your extraordinary family life journey.JOIN GREG'S 90-DAY HEALTH & FITNESS CHALLENGE! Hey Guys! Ever felt triggered by someone else's “perfect” life? You're not alone. I recently came across a social media post that sent me into a spiral of comparison—until I caught myself and dug deeper into why. In this episode, we're talking about comparison culture, social media triggers, and how to break free from the cycle of self-doubt. XO, Amber Links and Resources:
How do you create lasting happiness in your life and career? More importantly, how do you take responsibility for it? In this episode of Reflect Forward, I explore why happiness is a worthy goal and why you must take ownership of your well-being. I reflect on my fireside chat with Jenn Lim, CEO of Delivering Happiness and author of Beyond Happiness, to discuss how true happiness is cultivated through purpose, progress, and deep connections—not just quick dopamine hits. Happiness and leadership are closely linked. Unhappy leaders create disengaged teams, while fulfilled leaders inspire innovation and growth. Workplace culture thrives when individuals take ownership of their happiness and well-being. In this episode, Jenn and I explore the mindset shifts and daily habits that help leaders and employees build sustainable happiness, resilience, and fulfillment in work and life. Key Takeaways • Happiness is a choice and a skill. It requires effort, mindset shifts, and intentional action. • Dopamine vs. sustainable happiness. Quick dopamine hits (social media, alcohol, shopping) provide momentary pleasure but do not lead to long-term well-being. True fulfillment comes from purpose, progress, and relationships. • Leadership and happiness are interconnected. When leaders take responsibility for their happiness, they set the tone for an engaged, motivated workplace culture. • Use the “LIT Framework” to define your purpose. Light (what excites you), Impact (how you contribute), and Talent (what you excel at) help align your career and life with what brings fulfillment. • Self-care is a discipline, not a luxury. Leaders and professionals must prioritize their mental, physical, and emotional well-being to show up fully. • Gratitude creates a ripple effect. Regularly expressing gratitude strengthens team culture, improves relationships, and enhances personal happiness. This episode is essential for leaders, entrepreneurs, and professionals looking to improve workplace engagement, personal fulfillment, and resilience. Happiness at work leads to higher productivity, stronger collaboration, and a healthier company culture. The boys drink and review Gaelic Storm, an imperial red ale, then ask why, since "women's rights" have made such great strides in recent decades, women are actually less happy? According to the 2024 American Family Survey, liberal women are half as happy as conservative women. There's no greater currency in liberalhood than being a victim. Liberal women therefore feel better -- that is, they feel worse -- the more they can claim to be a victim. What causes all this? Why was feminism such a horrible failure?
