Mark Thompson opens Hour 3 with the latest forecast alongside the National Weather Service, as meteorologist Joe Sirarad urges people to stay home and limit road travel if possible. They break down why it feels unusually warm right now, how subtropical moisture is fueling the storm, and why the unsettled weather is expected to linger through Friday before clearing into the weekend. Mark also reflects on the unique challenge of having a December 26th birthday and trying to gather people in the post-holiday lull.Mark then reinforces storm safety while shifting to holiday travel, as AAA predicts record-breaking travel numbers. He reacts to the sticker shock of average airfare approaching $900 per ticket, questioning why so many travelers are still hitting the road and skies despite the cost and conditions. The hour turns cultural as Mark examines how Christmas has changed on television — with fewer primetime specials and late-night programming looking very different — and why the absence of wall-to-wall holiday content feels so noticeable.Mark also weighs in on the viral incident involving DK Metcalf of the Pittsburgh Steelers, after video appeared to show a physical exchange with a fan during a game against the Detroit Lions. Mark debates where the line should be drawn between player accountability and fan responsibility. To close the show, and at a listener’s request, Mark dips into the archives for a classic Mark Thompson / Tim Conway Jr. segment involving body scans — a throwback moment to end the night.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Regular readers of MinistryWatch know that I'm a bit of a Ryan Burge fan-boy. His weekly Substack column, “Graphs About Religion,” is required reading for me. I cite it often in my weekly “Signs and Wonders” column. That's why I'm kind of geeking out today, now that we finally have him on the podcast. The occasion for this get-together is his new book. It's called The Vanishing Church: How The Hollowing Out of Moderate Congregations is Hurting Democracy, Faith, and Us. I've got to admit that when I saw the title of this book, I thought to myself, “I'm not sure the hollowing out of moderate congregations is such a bad thing.” Jesus himself didn't have much use for lukewarm Christians. But I have to admit that, after reading Ryan's book, I have – well – moderated my position on moderate congregations. At least…moderately. As you'll hear, I push back on Ryan's thesis a bit, and as I think you will also hear, this was a lively and respectful conversation. Ryan Burge is a professor of practice at The Danforth Center on Religion and Politics at Washington University. He previously taught at Eastern Illinois University. He is the author of several previous books, including his 2023 book The Great Dechurching, which may have been my onramp to Ryan's work. In addition to writing his weekly Substack column, which I just mentioned, he is also a regular contributor to The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Politico, and other publications. He has appeared on CBS News' flagship program 60 Minutes, and has been cited by countless other news programs, podcasts, and news articles. We had this conversation via zoom. The producer for today's program is Jeff McIntosh. If you are listening to this program during the week we dropped it, MERRY CHRISTMAS. Thanks for making MinistryWatch a part of your holiday festivities. Until next time, may God bless you.

In 1961, 23-year-old Michael Rockefeller – heir to one of America's wealthiest families and son of future Vice President Nelson Rockefeller – disappeared without a trace in the remote swamps of Dutch New Guinea (now West Papua). While collecting primitive art from the Asmat people, his boat capsized in treacherous waters. He tied gas cans to his body and swam toward shore, famously saying, "I think I can make it."He was never seen again. For decades, the official story was drowning. But persistent rumors – backed by journalist investigations, eyewitness accounts from Asmat villagers, and books like Carl Hoffman's Savage Harvest – point to a far darker fate: ritual killing and cannibalism as revenge in a culture built around headhunting and sacred violence. In this episode, we dive deep into the mystery: the colonial clashes that set the stage, the Asmat's complex worldview, the exhaustive searches, cover-up allegations, and the chilling evidence that Michael may have been speared, beheaded, and consumed in a ceremonial act.Was it tragedy, murder, or something lost in cultural collision? Join me for this unfiltered exploration of one of history's most haunting unsolved disappearances.▶️ *[WORK WITH ME]* https://RobbJarrett.net▶️ *FREE* Personal Brand Starter Kit :: https://www.medialabb.net/brandkit*[SUBSCRIPTIONS I RECOMMEND]*ABOBE CREATIVE SOFTWARE - VIDIQ (AI Creation and SEO) - https://vidiq.com/robbjarrett Motion Array (Assets) - Envato (Assets) - OPENART (AI Creation Tools)BEACONS: https://beacons.ai/signup?c=robbjarrett*[PRODUCTS I RECOMMEND]*SM7B Microphone - https://amzn.to/47AuKREMV7+ Microphone - https://amzn.to/3V7LRmABLUE YETI Microphone - https://amzn.to/3V7LRmAOBSBOT Webcam - https://amzn.to/4mcWhMFDJI Action Cam - https://amzn.to/3V44gk7DJI OSMO Gimbal - https://amzn.to/3V44gk7NEEWER Lights - https://amzn.to/4pfvMJe

The Cowboys just played another game that looked competitive if you squinted… and Norm Hitzges is once again left just wondering what exactly the offseason plan is supposed to be — because whatever this is, it ain't it.After watching Dallas turn Sunday night into a live-action pinball machine (points flying everywhere, very little resistance), Norm breaks down how a team that can score nearly 30 a game somehow still looks miles away from relevance. From a defense that politely escorts opponents down the field, to penalties that actively sabotage momentum, to JJ McCarthy having the best night of his young career thanks to zero pressure — it's all on the table.Yes, there were early points. Yes, CeeDee Lamb was great. And yes, Brandon Aubrey missed two field goals, which should legally require a congressional hearing. But the larger question remains: how does a team this talented end up flirting with historically bad defense?Norm connects the dots, looks ahead to the Chargers (spoiler: they're better), and explains why this offseason must be about defense — unless the Cowboys are aiming to redefine “bend but don't break” as “collapse entirely.”Pull up a chair. The GoGaddis Real Estate Radio Show with Cleveland (Cleve) Gaddis | Economic Trends & Policy Impact Presented by Modern Traditional Realty Group https://www.moderntraditionsrealty.com Are First Time Home Buyers Disappearing? What It Means for the Atlanta Real Estate Market Traditionally, the first time home buyer made up about 40% of the market; today, that number has plummeted to the low 20% range—one of the lowest levels in modern history. This isn't just a headline; it's a trend that affects the entire real estate ecosystem in the Atlanta Metro Area and beyond. In this 12-minute segment, we dive into why the "starter home" is becoming a rarity and what this shift means for the future of homeownership. What You Will Learn: The "Big Three" Pressures: We break down how the combination of higher interest rates, stabilized but elevated home prices, and the rising cost of living is squeezing new buyers out of the market. The Lock-In Effect: Discover why existing homeowners are staying put, keeping vital inventory off the market and making it harder for the next generation to find a place to start. A Shift in Lifestyle: Why delayed milestones like marriage and kids—combined with a decreasing stigma around long-term renting—are changing how and when people enter the market. The Ripple Effect on All Homeowners: Understand why a weakening "bottom" of the market eventually affects home values at every level above it. Strategies for Success: If you are a first time home buyer sitting on the sidelines, we discuss strategic tools like down-payment assistance and creative financing that can help you get back in the game. The insights shared on the show reflect the same guidance provided daily by Modern Traditional Realty Group. If you'd like a no-pressure conversation about your home's value, equity position, or the right timing for your next move, visit ModernTraditionalRealtyGroup.com or to connect with Cleve and submit questions for future segments, visit GoGaddisRadio.com.

With Casefile on a short break, we thought this would be a great time to shine a light on some of the shows that may have flown under the radar for many of you. These are shows we've put our hearts into and are really proud of. Today, we're sharing another one of those shows — The Vanishing of Vivienne Cameron.Back in 2018, we covered this case as Case 80: Beth Barnard. But this ten-part series goes far deeper. It's a long-form investigation, written and hosted by Vikki Petraitis — who co-authored The Phillip Island Murder, the book that first brought this story to public attention. The Vanishing of Vivienne Cameron revisits the events of that night in 1986, when 23-year-old Beth Barnard was found brutally murdered, and 35-year-old Vivienne Cameron—who was the prime suspect in Beth's murder—disappeared without a trace.Across ten episodes, Vikki examines the women at the centre of the case, the evidence, the forensics, the witness accounts, and the many conflicting stories that have shaped public opinion for nearly forty years. It's a complex, haunting mystery that continues to raise more questions than it answers. We're releasing the first episode here on the Casefile feed. You can find the full ten-part series by searching for The Vanishing of Vivienne Cameron, wherever you get your podcasts.I hope you enjoy the series. Hosted on Acast. Rural populations are shrinking. In 11 of the 29 OECD countries included in the OECD Reinforcing Rural Resilience report (https://www.oecd.org/en/publications/reinforcing-rural-resilience_7cd485e3-en.html), rural populations are declining, not only as percentage of national populations but also in absolute numbers. Rural regions close to cities are also exposed to this trend, particularly if their populations tend more easily to move to urban areas. Despite not being an OECD Member country, Kazakhstan is experiencing similar trends. During the Soviet Union, its urban population was 53% but today that percentage has increased to 63%. Now only 37% of its population is living in rural areas, with only 5% of its GDP coming from the agricultural sector. Discussing all things decentralisation, digitalisation and democracy in Kazakhstan, Shayne MacLachlan from the OECD has a conversation with Zhanerke Kochiigit. This conversation took place at the 2025 OECD Latin American Rural Development Conference, Rural-Urban Connections: Pathways to Sustainable Development (https://www.oecd.org/en/events/2025/11/oecd-latin-american-rural-development-conference.html) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Have a listen. Zhanerke Kochiigit is a researcher in Nazarbayev University, located in Astana, Kazakhstan. She works in the Graduate School of Public Policy and is dedicated to studying rural development in northern regions of Kazakhstan, where there is very low population density. In May of 1992, 42-year-old Christine “Starrine” Byrd vanished from her home in west Tyler, Texas. What began as a missing-person case soon turned into something far darker – and more disturbing – than anyone could have imagined.Starrine was a beloved mother of four, a woman of faith whose home was always filled with music. She disappeared without a trace; the front door left open, food still cooking on the stove, pets unfed. The scene looked frozen in time, as if she had been interrupted mid-afternoon. Investigators suspected foul play almost immediately. Then came a phone call. An anonymous man claimed her body could be found at Bellwood Lake. The resulting large-scale search turned up nothing. No remains, no evidence, no answers. But Starrine wasn't the only person in Tyler to disappear under mysterious circumstances around that time. Months earlier, eight-year-old Chad Choice had been abducted from his home. His case led to ransom demands, rumors of drug debts, and ultimately to a horrifying series of revelations implicating a young man named Patrick Horn.Years later, Horn would be convicted of Chad's kidnapping and murder. Behind bars, he began talking, and investigators realized that Starrine lived just a short distance from where Chad was buried. Informants claimed Starrine “knew too much.” Some said she may have witnessed something connected to the boy's killing.Though she was never found, and no charges were filed in her disappearance, Starrine's daughters have never stopped fighting. Today, the case remains open — and so does the search for justice. If you have any information about the disappearance of Starrine Byrd, please call the Tyler Police Department at (903) 531-1000 or Tyler-Smith County Crime Stoppers at (903) 597-2833.Sources: The Tyler Morning Telegraph, The Tyler Courier-Times Telegraph, KETK News, KLTV News, Smith County District Attorney Press Statements, Patrick Horn v. 1/8 The Vanishing Museum of the Cultural Revolution — Tanya Branigan — Branigan's book Red Memory opens with the Pagoda Museum in Shantou, the sole institutional site documenting Cultural Revolution history and memory. Built by official Peng Qi'an to preserve this era, the museum unflinchingly documents the period's widespread violence, social chaos, and estimated two million deaths. Official Chinese historiography minimizes the CR as merely "setbacks" and historical aberrations. The museum site, subject to constant surveillance by state security operatives, was eventually closed to public access and systematically obscured from historical memory. 1966
In 1966, six Denver high school students went camping at Daniels Park — and stumbled into one of the strangest cases of UFO and paranormal crossover ever recorded. Known as The Campfire Creep, the group reported buzzing noises, footsteps on the roof, a tall man in a black coat who vanished before their eyes, and glowing egg-shaped craft that disabled their car as they fled. In this episode of Just Another Tin Foil Hat, Zelia Edgar dives deep into this bizarre night — exploring how it blurs the lines between UFO encounters, hauntings, and classic poltergeist phenomena. When Rome's Emperor Valerian fell into Persian hands, his defeat became one of history's most grotesque legends — a tale of humiliation, torture, and a death said to come by molten gold. | #WDRadio WEEK OF NOV 11, 2025==========HOUR ONE: When it comes to receiving the death sentence, history has given us several ways to go about the execution. Hanging, firing squad, gas chamber, being stoned to death or burned at the stake… but you have to be some whole new level of “hated” by the people if your death blow comes by way of molten gold being poured down your throat. (Death By Golden Throat) *** Typically, when you hear the phrase “high speed chase”, you think of law enforcement trying to catch the bad guys who are in a getaway vehicle. Perhaps after a bank robbery, or after blowing a stop sign and simply refusing to pull over. But have you heard about the time that the police were involved in a high-speed chase up to 100-miles-per hour, trying to catch up to a flying saucer? (The 100mph UFO Chase) *** When the Black Plague arrived at their doorsteps, the villagers were forced to choose between life or certain doom. It's the tragic tale of England's Plague Village – the village of Eyam. (The Black Death Comes to Eyam) *** In the 1800s, women finding themselves “with child” but unmarried, were treated like second-class citizens or worse. And during a time when birth control was limited or even unavailable outside of the rhythm method, what was a girl to do if she found herself in such dire circumstances? Fortunately, there was a woman there ready to help – to take the baby off their hands and give it a good home. Or so everyone thought. (Minnie, The Baby Farmer) *** On frozen lakes near Manitowish Waters, a hooded figure appears to ice fishermen, silently guiding them to the best spots for a catch before vanishing into the winter air. (The Ice Fisherman Ghost)==========HOUR TWO: Ruth Snyder and Judd Gray devised a scheme to get rid of Ruth's husband – and they planned it so well that, okay… actually no. They were so inept they were caught immediately, and even the police publicly called them incompetent. (The Dumb-Bell Murder) *** For over 2,000 years across South and Southeast Asia, trained elephants served as living instruments of execution, crushing condemned prisoners with calculated brutality under the control of their handlers. (Execution By Elephant) *** Before he became a Civil War general, Congressman Dan E. Sickles' scandalous murder trial changed our legal system forever. He said outright that he had killed his wife's lover. So how did he avoid being found guilty of the crime he admitted to committing? (How A Congressman Got Away With Murder) *** In 1150, two children were found near Woolpit in England – they wore strange clothes, spoke oddly, but the most identifiable characteristic for both children was their skin was green. The children themselves were a mystery – but what happened when they grew up? Did they marry? Did they have children? Could there be decedents of the green children of Woolpit living among us today? (Great Grandkids of Green Children) *** In the summer of 1518, a mysterious dancing plague seized the French town of Strasbourg, compelling hundreds to dance without rest for months—some until they collapsed and died—in a frenzy that baffled authorities and remains unexplained to this day. (Dancing Plague)==========SUDDEN DEATH OVERTIME: “Tom" and "Lena" are in a loving relationship and have a young child together. It sounds like the perfect family – except for one tiny detail about their relationship. Tom and Lena are biological brother and sister. (I Fell In Love With My Sister) *** In Norfolk, England the village of Eccles was slowly gobbled by the rising waters of the sea in the early 1600s. But even today, sometimes during a particularly heavy story, you can see St. Mary's Church mysteriously reappear… bringing with it, the dead buried in the church graveyard who cannot find rest. (The Disappearing And Reappearing Village of Eccles) *** Lory Price and his wife Ethel mysteriously disappeared from Marion, Illinois. But then, sometimes that happens when you are mixed up with the mob or may have learned something you weren't supposed to. (The Vanishing of Lory Price) *** The Catacombs of St. Callixtus in Rome, Italy, hold the remains of sixteen popes, several martyrs, and around half a million Christians, and according to on author, a not-of-this world entity. (The Callixtus Catacombs Entity)==========SOURCES AND REFERENCES FROM TONIGHT'S SHOW:“Death By Golden Throat” by Genevieve Carlton for Weird History https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/3586qeqk, Rachel Nuwer for Smithsonian Magazine https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/18pu2d9b, and Laurie L.
