NEUE SÜLZE vom 07.03.2019 Zum letzten mal auf einem Donnerstag. Wir wollten mehr Grund zum feiern haben. Daher verabschieden wir uns in dieser Episode vom Donnerstag und feiern fortan BERGFEST. Bei uns zu Gast: Markus „Onkel“ Lingner Er ist der Sessiondrummer von Alligatoah, war Percussionist bei Jeanette Biedermann und tourt aktuell zusammen mit Mark Uwe Kling als "Arbeitsgruppe Zukunft" durch Deutschland. Curt Bisquera, also known as “Kirkee B.”, is one of the most popular studio and touring drummers in the world. Curt began playing drums at age 3 and was playing professionally by the time he was in grade school. After finishing high school Curt attended Hollywood’s Musician’s Institute. One of Curt’s teachers at MI was Joe Porcaro and eventually met the late drumming legend Jeff Porcaro. Jeff became a huge influence for Bisquera and eventually went on to recommend him for work. While at the Musician’s Institute Curt heard that Morris Day & The Time were auditioning for a new drummer. He got the gig and Curt went on to tour with Morris Day which led on to him working with other well known artists including Shalamar and Sheena Easton. Curt went on to tour with Belinda Carlisle where he met legendary producer Don Was who hired him to play drums on Bonnie Raitt’s massive Grammy winning hit Luck Of The Draw. Curt became one of the most in demand session drummers recording and performing with many great artists including Mick Jagger, Sir Elton John, Tina Turner, Johnny Cash, Tom Petty & The Heartbrakers, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Etta James, The Dixie Chicks, Spice Girls, Ricky Martin, and many more. Curt Bisquera continues to be in high demand for both recordings and live work and recently developed his own signature bass guitar envelope filter pedal with West Co Pedals. Matt North has done a little bit of everything. In the L.A. Comedy scene, he opened for the likes of Marc Maron, Louis CK and Chris Rock.  As a screenwriter, he did Best Western, which won multiple awards, yet has never been produced. As an actor, he starred alongside Jason Alexander in HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, yet was written out of the script after one episode after Alexander left.  As a session drummer, both in Los Angeles and Nashville, he’s worked with Maria McKee, Jay Bennett, Peter Case and Mink Stole.Over the last few years, North has taught himself guitar and piano and has just issued his first album, Above Ground Fools - ten songs all written by North.  We touch on the twists and turns of his varied career, including what got him playing drums in the first place, and the inspiration behind songs like "Cronkite and Cosell" and "I Sold it All."

Welcome back to another episode of the DrumGAB podcast.  This weeks’ guest, Tim Buell, speaks to us from Nashville, TN.   Episode four is quite anecdotal.  It spirals into several rabbit holes throughout the interview and for the most part is completely spontaneous.  Like all interviews that I perform, I always have notes and questions prepared for each podcast, however, on this occasion, I referred to them twice.   Tim has such an interesting background with drums.  The stories about his time in Belmont University are a definite highlight in this podcast episode.  He studied under both Derico Watson and Chester Thompson, while at Belmont, among other teachers.  Tim shares some of his experiences while studying with these two iconic players.  In particular, the story about him and Chester is something you won’t want to miss. Tim also elaborates on the fine balance of being yourself as an artist and “getting the job done” as a Nashville session musician. We go pretty deep here, to say the least, and I believe we uncover some really interesting points of view that perhaps you, the listener, might take into consideration when you enter a studio or a live musical setting. Later on, we talk about the great Brian Blade.  I don’t want to spoil anything here in the podcast notes but this story is the cherry on top with this episode.  A close encounter with this magnificent drummer and how any great player can make any situation work for them. Finally, we wanted to promote Tim’s new Ableton Live video series titled “Ableton For the Working Drummer”.  This video series that Tim has produced focuses primarily on how to run tracks in Ableton.  Up until now, there haven't really been any resources, according to Tim, on how to run tracks in Ableton so he wanted to remedy that.  Catch the video series, it will launch today, 01/25/17 and he will have this available for a limited time before he will take it down for further refinement.
