As parents, we know the words we say matter so much. But in the heat of the moment, many parents still find that angry or degrading words come pouring out. After these moments, hot tears of repentance stream down cheeks, and oaths are sworn. It will never happen again. Amy is a mother of nine, parenting coach, and writer in the Wild and Free community. She and I are going to explore how God's grace can cover angry words and how that grace can transform the words we speak. -From a child psychology perspective, why do the words that parents speak matter so much? Can it affect our kids' anxiety and depression? -What are some of the most damaging words and phrases a parent can use? -How do we repair when we've found we've used those words again? -In what way do we need to see ourselves to change the way we speak? -Does the way we talk to ourselves matter? (How does seeing ourselves held in grace matter?) -If a woman is starting to feel heavy with the thought of watching every little word that comes out of her mouth, what hope do you have to offer her? My walk with God has looked so different in different stages of my life, or do we call it Eras now? But in every one of the new stages of life, I have found myself encouraged by hearing the way other people practice their faith. Today I'm talking to Katie Orr, Bible Teacher and Bible study writer. We are going to compare and contrast what our spiritual walk looked like as we were kids, how it developed through having our own kids, and how it's shifted as Bible teachers. I hope as you listen, you can take and add the practices that feel encouraging to you, and leave what doesn't fit for another season. In this episode, we cover:Childhood devotional habits and family Bible reading traditionsHow to make your faith your own in your teen yearsWhat to do when you feel like walking away from faithCreative ways to connect with God during busy motherhoodTransitioning from survival mode to pouring into othersEncouragement for adapting your spiritual practices as life changesWe are both participating in a "Bible Study Bundle" available just this week. In it, you'll get a couple of the Bible studies we discussed during this episode, and many, many more! You can Katie Orr at this link! This is a long episode. You will probably need a couple of beverages and some relaxation time, along with a copy of your astrology chart, so you can follow along with my chart house tour.Astrologically, my natal Gemini rising and this transiting Solar Eclipse/New Moon had a meeting. They had to come to an agreement on what to post for this episode. Since Mercury who has guiding powers for both the sign of Virgo and Gemini, they decided to do a practical informational guided tour through the zodiac houses. As we(Virgo, Gemini, and me) provide commentary on how Virgo may affect your life and daily experiences, please reflect on your upcoming new life story. This eclipse and new moon at the 29 degree(last degree) is offering a clear sign from the Cosmos, Universe, Source, Divine, or whatever your designated name choice; time to pay attention.Across this eclipse season with the full and new moons, life feels like shifting sands across a wide expanse of desert. Even though this is a time of mental, emotional, and soul disorientation, where old roles don't fit, habits and beliefs are disintegrating, it's important to recognize a new "You" is rising up.I trust you will find some insights and guidance as you step forward into your new life phase. Text us about this show. The Tunes came on the scene only two years ago in 2023. From the start, this band was put together to be something bigger than the sum of its parts. Woodie Larsen (guitar), Jon Wheelock (vocals, bass), and Adam Hatton (drums) are the nucleus of The Tunes and when playing live they include players like Joe Sly (keys), Tyler VanderHeiden (bass), Malakai Flynn (guitar), and Jordan Miles (keys, bass). This band has a lot of fun doing what they do and the proof is in their music. Combining elements of 1960s soul, funk, classic rock, and a healthy dose of the 90s, The Tunes' sound is unique and riveting and leaves audiences wanting more. I was reading a year or two ago, I can't even remember where now, but a sentence from the article has solidified itself in my memory. It said something along the lines of "Most people on social media follow someone one step ahead of them, or one financial bracket above them. Any more than that and it's overwhelming, under that and it isn't inspiring." It struck me because it named rather specifically why social media can breed discontentment. If we are only looking at the lives of people a little bit ahead of us, then we are always going to be tempted to spend above than we can afford. Maybe that's taking trips that the financial strain makes us miserable afterward. Sink a deposit into a house that consumes our whole household income. Maybe it's as simple as buying organizing systems that is totally out of reach. Kate Strickler is the creator behind Naptime Kitchen. For this book, she was just named a New York Times best-selling author! Congratulations! Her new book, "I Just Wish I had a Bigger Kitchen," tackles why we feel discontent when most of us have everything we need. -What is the first time you started noticing you were believing lies about your life? -How do you usually identify that you are believing a lie? -Do you think naming the lie helps remove its power over us? -Why is the chapter "I just wish I had more friends" resonating most with readers? In this episode, which I see as "Cosmic Conversations" is giving us ample messages and directions to create real change in our personal and collective life experiences. The numerology of 9-9-9 is an echo of the recent Full Moon and Lunar Eclipse in Pisces as being energetic and vibrational points of releasing old and outmoded beliefs systems about ourselves. The sign of Pisces represents the pathway in our astrological blueprint where we have the potential to heal, create and step into the awareness of universal connection of all beings. What is so noteworthy is that everyone gets an opportunity to use these cosmic events for personal growth and soul restoration. The essential message is that each person has to ask the question, "what is the real meaning of this for me?"The nine code is another way of making sure we hear what the Universe, Source, Goddess, God, whatever your choice for Life itself. Nine is the final number in the numbers code. What things are drawing to a close, and are speaking to your through your astrology blueprint? Pisces is the final sign in the zodiac. It is the summation of many paths through life. The "divine design" definitely seems at play here. Pisces represents the water element. In astrological reference it is about what must be understood from within one's self. Pisces energy is connected to the self from the inner, liminal level of awareness. It is embraced through the emotions, and experienced as intuitive inner knowing. In some ways Pisces is difficult to grasp because like the element of water, it flows and can move without boundaries or barriers. The planet Saturn has retrograded into Pisces to help us gather a conscious strategy for changing what has held us at odds with ourselves. The questions that we each formulate about what old beliefs and habits that don't serve our well-being, serves as the bulwark for gaining greater clarity for ongoing daily expression. What arena, field or arena in you life is calling for greater self-understanding, or where are things not flowing? The sign of Virgo during this lunar season is providing the backdrop and practical ways to approach releasing what is not working, or providing the results we need or want. We each have these cosmic events taking place. For sure there are 12 areas specifically where "a choice for change" can take place. Which way? Let's have an Astrology Conversation. AI models have learned to create their own music by harvesting millions of songs from the internet. But critics say they're using musicians' work without permission, and three major record labels are suing them for ‘copyright infringement on an almost unimaginable scale'. In the second episode of this two part series, the FT's pop critic Ludovic Hunter-Tilney speaks to campaigners and lawyers about the legal battle over AI generators, and to artists about the growth of AI music on streaming platforms. Have you ever wondered why stories hold such power over our hearts? From fairy tales and Greek myths to Disney movies and the Bible itself, stories shape the way we see the world. In this episode of Sunshine in My Nest, I sit down with Marian A. Jacobs, author of On Magic and Miracles, to explore the role of stories in Christian life, how to discern between good and harmful narratives, and why God chose story as the way to reveal His plan of salvation.Together, we talk about:Why humans crave hero stories and how they point us toward Jesus. How the Bible is not just rules or heroes to copy, but the ultimate story of the Savior who rescues us.The difference between magic and miracles—and why it matters for Christians. What Frozen, Greek myths, and stories from around the world reveal about the character of God.The danger of legalism when discerning what media we consume.Practical questions you can ask yourself while reading or watching to help guide your choices.Whether you're a parent reading the Jesus Storybook Bible, a book lover sorting through modern fiction, or someone who simply wants to grow in discernment, this conversation will help you enjoy stories more deeply while keeping your eyes fixed on Christ.Listen in and be encouraged to find the beauty of God's truth woven into the stories all around you.More info about Around the Ancient World HERE!!You can find Marian A Jacobs and her book "Watching for the Morning."You can find Elizabeth writing helpful hints on the blogHelping you love Jesus and disciple your kids on Instagram Or get access to the Additional study resources hereOriginal Music written and recorded by Jonathan Camenisch *affiliate links are used when appropriate. Generative AI models trained on vast swaths of popular music can create songs almost indistinguishable from human-made work. For some, they represent the future of pop music. For others, they threaten to flood the world with ‘AI slop', drowning out the work of human artists, stealing musicians' jobs, and ending the process of music-making as we know it. Is this just a case of technophobia? Or could AI music generators replace human musicians altogether? In the first in a two-part series, the FT's pop critic Ludovic Hunter-Tilney speaks to musicians and artists about the inventive power of generative AI in music, as well as the potential threat it might pose to musicians' livelihoods and the music industry as a whole. AI music generators - platforms that use artificial intelligence to create new, original music from scratch - can make songs that are almost indistinguishable from human creations. For some musicians, they're the next frontier in music-making technology. But for others, they represent a grave threat, flooding the world with low-grade AI music, stealing the jobs of working musicians, and even spelling the end of the creative process as we know it. Is this just technophobia, or is music facing AI annihilation? In a new two-part series of Tech Tonic, the FT's pop critic Ludovic Hunter-Tilney explores the emerging world of AI music, and the impact it could have on the industry.Tech Tonic is presented by Ludovic Hunter-Tilney. The producers are Lulu Smyth and Josh Gabert-Doyon. Edwin Lane is the senior producer, Flo Phillips is the executive producer. Sound design by Breen Turner and Samantha Giovinco. The Secret Joy in Your WorkI wish we were in the same room and everyone of us could share what the word calling means to us, and what you feel called to do. Maybe you've known that with burning clarity from the time you were tiny. Maybe thinking about your calling is confusing and gives you anxiety just thinking about it. Maybe you felt like your calling was one thing, but others or life circumstances have changed that for you... I hope you leave this episode with a renewed sense of clarity and encouragement as you step into what God is calling you into.-What in the world got you interested and excited about the topic of calling? -I love how you pointed out that not all callings are paid work and the word "work" has been saddled with a bad reputation. Can you talk us through that? -How does it change our understanding of work to know that we worship a God who works? -Did all ancient gods work, or was that unique? -How did the fall affect our work? How does a culture of forward-facing and instant/microwave results show up as a barrier for young people pursuing challenging goals?-How do we learn to find joy in the process of work, not just the results? Send us a textDo you think Mother Earth may be calling us to evolve with her. I've read that the next five years will serve humanity as an initiation period. Preparing our human DNA template to receive higher harmonic frequencies. If we choose to harmonize our souls with this upgrade. We can restore our original place in the cosmic symphony. Today's episode explores physically connecting with the Earth and her inhabitants. The importance of grounding our bodies with nature's electrical energy. And the health benefits and balance experienced, when we spend 30 minutes a day grounding with nature. We'll also look at how physical connection to other life forms may bring us closer to ourselves. Back to school can be challenging for families. I find that many moms I talk to are more susceptible to the "Am I doing enough?" question this time of year. Add to that, we are all starting all our routines from scratch again, and kids are being required to do more structured time. All that gives a full recipe for meltdown (and not just for the kids). Let's talk to veteran mom Jamie Erickson about navigating back to school with grace!-Why do you think we still struggle with overwhelm as moms? -Was back-to-school overwhelming for you as a mom? -What are some things you did to help with your start-of-year rhythm? -If someone wants to start off strong, what can they do? At long last, Lloyd and Pastor Bennett are back together and there are no guardrails. I'm so excited to launch into a new season with you this fall!We wrapped up our Legacy of Faith series, and I felt led to take a little break for the first time since starting the podcast. I mean, I've taken time off at Christmas in the past, but as a mom to three little boys, we all know Christmas isn't a break. I did this as part of practicing what I preach. In my reallife, I've said 100 times, it doesn't matter how hard you run, if you're running the wrong direction, you're not going to get anywhere. I realized at the end of 2024 that I was running hard without knowing the direction. I was just jumping from topic to topic… they were all great topics, but I wanted to be more intentional to grow your faith deeper (let's bets be honest my faith too, because my faith has grown so much from these conversations with mentors). Scott Young is a producer, writer, director and Dark Shadows fan who attempted to pitch a Dark Shadows TV reunion movie in the 1980s. Despite support from several of the original series' writers and cast members, the Return to Collinwood pitch was not greenlit. In 2014/2015, Scott dusted off the pitch, reenvisioned it as a series, and retitled the project, Darker Shadows. However, this attempt was also unsuccessful. Scott visits the podcast to offer some insights into his proposals for a new DS. In addition, Scott discusses his involvement with the DS fandom going all the way back to his days volunteering at ShadowCon in the 1970s as well as assisting with the Original Music from Dark Shadows Volume 2album. Join us today with our guest the mystic and bard Sophie Strand as we discuss the Knight of Wands. Like Dionysus, the Knight of Wands arrives from beyond with a message: look for the joy, look for what delights you, even if it's just a small thing, imagine it like a small spark of fire, then blow. We talk about the difference between the Knight and the King, and the ecological relationships they both imply. We talk about ecstasies and where inspiration comes from and what it means for your wand to flower and rituals for working with the Knight of Wands on your morning walks.
