Forrest, Conan Neutron, Kristina Oakes, Kt Baldassaro, Marta Mcfly @mcflysmoviehouse and Rayyvana @RayyvanaPolitics discuss David Lynch's Lost Highway We planned this episode a couple months ago, before we obviously found out that David Lynch had passed. So, I'm sure we're going to talk about David Lynch in general during this episode, but it's not the reason we planned it!! Lost Highway is David Lynch's 1997 return to filmmaking after Twin Peaks and Twin Peak's Fire Walk With Me.. although Wild at Heart was also made during this time in 1990. After things didn't go as well as David Lynch hoped in the TV industry after Twin Peaks, he entered an even more surrealist and fascinating moment in his career.. with Lost Highway and then Mulholland Drive. Lost Highway stars Bill Pullman, Patricia Arquette, Balthazar Getty, Robert Blake, Gary Busey, Natasha Gregson Wagner, Robert Loggia, and with appearances by Richard Pryor, Giovanni Ribisi, Henry Rollins, Marilyn Manson and Twiggy Ramirez, Jack Nance, and Mink Stole. The music was worked on by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails and has an insane mix including David Bowie, Lou Reed, Rammstein, Marilyn Manson, and the Smashing Pumpkins #davidlynch #Lynch #bluevelvet #mulhollanddrive #losthighway #twinpeaks #billpullman #podcast #moviepodcast #filmpodcast #patriciaarquette #marilynmanson #trentreznor #richardpryor #neonoir #noir #henryrollins #robertloggia #davidlynchweatherreport #balthazar #getty Watch KT Baldassaro & Jared Skolnick's Girl in the Basement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcn2Q57VXEQ Join our discord: https://discord.gg/NK3TMk63Pe The Movie Night Extravaganza Patreon helps us keep the show going.. become a Patron and support the show!! https://patreon.com/MovieNightExtra Conan Neutron has music available from Conan Neutron & The Secret Friends https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com OR if you want to become a Protonic Reversal patron: https://patreon.com/protonicreversal

This month, movies have been gay to a variety of extremities with no shortage of themes of “suppression”. Well we're throwing suppression out the window as well as anything having anything to do with polite society because we're finally getting to a John Water's film. John Waters and his eccentric Baltimore circle of friends and freaks had been making movies for a handful of years already, but when he finally released his 1972 film “PINK FLAMINGOS” upon the public, it represented a distinct point in his career. It's a showcase of notorious Baltimore personalities that, quite frankly, seemed way more fun and accessible than those folks up in Andy Warhol's Factory. This movie stars Divine, Edith Massey, Mink Stole, David Lochary and Mary Vivian Pearce. John Water's philosophy of filth, as represented in Pink Flamingos, may be very unsettling at some points but you'll be laughing twice as much a you'll be wretching. It's a war of filth and the god of filth is Babs aka Divine. Can try hard haters, The Marbles, even hope to out-filth the Queen? If you're not a very political person and you're looking from some ideology then look no further than this movie. There really is no way to describe John Waters's work other than queer, which is why Pink Flamingos (1972) had to be our third Pride Month pick. An indie made on a shoe-string budget and starring drag icon Divine as the "filthiest person alive," this flick truly pushes the envelope, and it doesn't matter if we're talking poop, penises, or poultry. Like Degrassi, it goes there — which is why we enlisted a little extra help to cover it. On our latest episode of Spooky Tuesday, we're joined by John Waters fan and filmmaker Paul Jacob Presley as we break down this creepy, crass camp classic. This week, The Sleepless Cinematic Podcast joins forces with Down the Yellow Brick Pod hosts Emily Kay Shrader and Tara Tagliaferro, two of the world's leading experts on all things Oz, to discuss one of the more bizarro films ever to be influenced by 1939's classic 'The Wizard of Oz' - the third and final installment of John Waters' trash trilogy, 1977's 'Desperate Living'. Emily and Tara come to this film with plenty of Oz-related background, and weigh in on several of the homages that Waters seems to have snuck into this film: a demented "Over the Rainbow", dropped "houses", an "effed-up" Oz/Munchkinland, witches wreaking havoc, villains having a lot of fun, and much, much more! Please check out our conversation with Emily and Tara on Down the Yellow Brick Pod about 2018's 'Crazy Rich Asians' and the Oz-related themes that its director John M. Chu, who's directing the theatrical release of 'Wicked', managed to knowingly or unknowingly incorporate. It's been delayed, but IT COULD NOT BE STOPPED. The PhileApocalypse is here!!! The episode where Philena takes over and subjects the OMFYS olds to MORE RECENT FILMS--movies from this century even! Can they take it?!? The answer may surprise you. First, Philena goes easy on the geezers with BUT I'M A CHEERLEADER (1999)--an actual good movie! Is such a thing possible??? Natasha Lyonne is Megan, a cheerleader whose love of Melissa Etheridge and tofu convinces her god-fearing parents (Mink Stole and Bud Cort!) to pack her off to a conversion camp run to get her off the path to obvious lesbianism. Things don't go as planned, however, when Megan meets and falls for Graham (Clea DuVall) at camp. With Cathy Moriarty as the camp commandant, and RuPaul as a camp counselor, and an amazing cast all the way around. (How did we not mention Michelle Williams is in this???) But before Greg, Bob and Cory could get too comfortable, Philena picks SLEEPOVER (2004) for her second feature. Like MIDNIGHT MADNESS (1980) from the first PhilenApocalypse, this is another scavenger hunt movie, only this one has a band of 13-year-old geek girls taking on the cool kids for the best lunch spot in their future high school. The movie is very mid-2000s, so it has an extended sequence in an Old Navy set to "Freeze Frame" by the J. Geils Band, because I guess a Me First and the Gimme Gimmes version wasn't available. The presence of Jeff Garlin as the clueless dad sets off a substantive discussion of the man's lack of talent. In the opening segment, we discuss the uproar in the comments section (for us anyway) over our YouTube video of Philena's reaction over the existence of Andrew "Dice" Clay + Philena recounts a disastrous screening of SPIRIT: STALLION OF THE CIMARRON (2002) at a wagon museum in the pouring rain so the horse didn't even show up. All this plus Bob delivers the X TWITTER REPORT!!! Hosts: Philena Franklin, Bob Calhoun, Cory Sklar, and Greg Franklin Old Movies for Young Stoners theme by Chaki the Funk Wizard Something You Could Never Own by NEFFEX, Rinse Repeat by DivKid, and Ride of the Valkyries by Richard Wagner courtesy of YouTube Audio Library. Megan (Natasha Lyonne) is a typical teenager but when her parents (Mink Stole & Bud Cort) along with EVERYONE else suspect she's a lesbian, they call Ms. Mary Brown (Cathy Moriarty) of True Directions. After an intervention staged by assistant Mike (Rupaul Charles), Megan is sent to conversion camp along with other kids (Melanie Lynskey, Dante Basco, Katrina Phillips, Katharine Towne, Douglas Spain, Joel Michaely, Kip Pardue) hoping to become ex-gays. Will she straighten out or will she give in to her True Desire and run away with Graham (Clea DuVall)? 2,4,6,8 - But I'm a Cheerleader, this time on Doom Generation. Emilio, Madeline, and Julian welcome their first guest Anthony Hollock for a “Close-Up” on the life and work of the one and only Divine. For the final episode in their “Perceptions of Sanity” cycle, the group look at Divine's career-spanning collaboration with John Waters with a focus on Multiple Maniacs, Pink Flamingos, Polyester, and Hairspray, while making some stops along the way to discuss turns in non-Waters films such as Lust in the Dust and Trouble in Mind. Hear them trace the arc of Divine's initial bombast to later subtlety, with myriad reactions along the way. Plus, why does Anthony feel like he's lived in a John Waters movie? What record does Pink Flamingos set for Julian? And who in the group was a “hair-hopper”?

Warm up the water in your tiny tin bathtub and pull out your pastel pedal pushers hat as we bebop into John Waters's Cry-Baby. Did Waters achieve the ultimate level of Postmodern metatextual campiness by creating a pastiche of his own film style here? Can the power of a quality goth accessory really change hearts and minds? Is this perhaps the best Willem Dafoe cameo ever? And is Kim McGuire, aka "Hatchet-Face", basically the biggest badass who ever lived? We'll let you know after this sloppy, sloppy make-out session.
We watched John Waters' magnum opus "Female Trouble" and there's gonna be hell to pay if we don't get them cha-cha heels! John Waters is being hailed as the Pope of Trash and if you weren't sure why, go watch this movie. Dawn Davenport (Divine) is a thief and a sh!t kicker and she wants to be famous. I mean did this movie predict social media fame culture? Dawn as played by John's muse Divine is the ultimate bad girl and we as the audience get to track her journey from surley school girl to working single mom and finally to the worlds most glamorous criminal. Don't worry though, Dawn gets hers and goodness prevails in the end. Along for the ride are the usual Dreamland favorites, Mink Stole, David Lochary, Mary Vivian Pierce and of course Aunt Ida herself the incomprable Edith Massey. Aunt Ida was the first voice ever heard on this podcast and we couldn't have said it better ourselves... "The world of othe heterosexual is a sick and boring life." Welcome to The Rad Wrap: a series on series, where Kylie and Elliott explore films with a common thread. This series takes a look at John Waters' cinema, as curated by Metro Cinema, and culminates in a live show of John Waters' Devil's Advocate. In this episode, they navigate the spiral of filth and, along the way, have their hearts stolen by Mink Stole, hit their cinema hard no line, appreciate the coalition work, and throw up all the middle fingers. When they see John Waters live, Elliott locks eyes with the Pope of Filth himself (many a time) and the three of them make a sandwich (you'll have to listen to learn what this means!). Title: Pink Flamingos [Wikipedia] [IMDb] Director: John Waters Producer: John Waters Writer: John Waters Stars: Divine, David Lochary, Mink Stole, Mary Vivian Pearce, Danny Mills, Edith Massey Release date: March 17, 1972 PROMO: Anime Talk (@AnimeTalk12) SHOWNOTES: Happy Thanksgiving, movie fans! On today's episode of Collateral Cinema, Beau and Robert are taking a look at John Waters' 1972 black comedy film Pink Flamingos, notorious for its controversial content and themes. Banned in several countries since its release, yet preserved in the National Film Registry as of 2021, this cult film starring the late drag queen icon Divine is a notable form of abject art in media and outrageously unhinged in its depiction of exploitative topics. On season 9, episode 3 of Paid in Puke, we've got spirit for Jamie Babbit's 1999 satirical comedy, "But I'm a Cheerleader", starring Natasha Lyonne, Clea Duvall, Melanie Lynskey, Cathy Moriarty, Katharine Towne, Mink Stole, RuPaul, Bud Cort, and for 5 seconds, a Dawson's Creek-era Michelle Williams. Special guest Kate Preusser, managing editor at Lookout Landing* joins us to talk about why this is one of two influential films from her early twenties (the other being Showgirls). Still, Kate had the most Hot Probs, in relation to representation and some of Megan's toxic traits. Kate also brings to us some Fun Facts, as well as the not-so-fun bad takes from the (mostly cis male) critics of 1999 that saddled this delightful film with a low Rotty T score that persists to this day. Baxter's offspring joins us on Keggers with Kids, and on the Lunchtime Poll, we reveal things we didn't know about ourselves until someone else pointed it out. *Lookout Landing is an online Seattle Mariner's baseball community.

"I look into my future and all I see is a long, dark hallway... and no exits." We watched Polyester (1981) with the hilarious Drew Droege and we're ready to eat an entire cake in one sitting. The legendary John Waters takes us on a melodramatic trip through the suburbs by way of the famous "Women's Pictures" directed by Douglas Sirk. We take a peek behind the velvet curtains and French Provincial decor of the 'burbs with Divine, who gives a stellar performance as Francine Fishpaw, the put upon wife of a filandering pornographer, mother of juvenile delinquents and daughter of a social climbing snob. Francine's oversensitive nose plays a key role in her already fragile mental state and the gimmick of Odorama was developed for the original screenings. Where else but a John Waters picture could you get a scratch-and-sniff card with such fragrances as Roses, Flatulence, Gasoline and New car smell? Polyester may have been Waters' first foray into "mainstream cinema" but all his usuals are there; Mink Stole as the sass-mouth other woman, Edith Massey as Francine's nouveau riche former housekeeper, and Jean Hill as a tire biting gospel singer. We can't forget the absolute dreamboat Tab Hunter as sleazy lothario Todd Tomorrow. Polyester is as tacky as late '70s/early '80s houshold decor and we can't get enough of it. Watch out! It's the Baltimore Footstomper!! September features a double bill of “Camp Horror”, and we kick off with “All About Evil” directed by Joshua Grannell aka Peaches Christ. A film for movies lovers everywhere as talking on your phone in the cinema becomes a capital crime; Elvira embraces her maternal side; and Mink Stole learns the end of that rhyme about snitches. “All About Evil” always felt set to be a cult classic and deserves far greater recognition. Now, with Natasha Lyonne's star in the ascendant, streaming on Shudder and an excellent bluray from Severin Films, hopefully more people will get to see this macabre comedy - watch (or re-watch) to avoid spoilers, and join us.
The illustrious Mink Stole is a national treasure. Her incredible career has spanned over five decades, beginning in the late 1960's when she and John Waters began their lifelong collaboration; she's had roles in every one of his feature films. She's also a singer and former advice column writer for The Baltimore City Paper. In this episode, Mink and hostess Pleasant Gehman dish about everything from the pre- “Pink Flamingos” days to her bohemian lifestyle in Baltimore, New York and Provincetown. They compare notes on their time served as cellmates in director Steve Balderson's women in prison film “Stuck!” as well as her role as an art agent his latest work, “Alchemy Of The Spirit”, currently making the rounds of film festivals. Mink also spills the beans on her latest foray as a budding pianist, working with Peaches Christ, and a sweet but shocking paranormal experience.Website: www.minkstole.comFacebook: www.facebook.comminkstolefanpage

Peaches Christ (aka Joshua Grannell) is a filmmaker and cult leader living in San Francisco. Her infamous movie events at the Castro Theatre regularly draw over 1,000 attendees to each new production before they tour. Events have featured special guest stars John Waters, Cloris Leachman, Patricia Quinn, Nell Campbell, Linda Blair, Bruce Campbell, Apollonia, Barry Bostwick, Pam Grier, and more. Peaches is the alter- ego of Joshua Grannell, the writer and director of the feature film All About Evil. The award-winning dark comedy gore film stars Natasha Lyonne, Thomas Dekker, Cassandra Peterson, Mink Stole, and Peaches Christ herself. Peaches Christ has been featured in the films Milk, I Am Divine, Diary Of A Teenage Girl, Mansfield 66/67, Tura!, Scream Queen: My Nightmare On Elm Street, You Don't Nomi, and more. All About Evil is a wild ride that's as horrific as it is hilarious. It's been called “a riotous experience” (Horror News), “clearly ahead of its time” (Geekscape) and “made for lovers of horror by someone who loves the genre” (Daily Dead). Now the “demented, outrageous and hysterical” (PopOptiq) debut feature from writer/director Joshua Grannell can finally be experienced by audiences everywhere: When a mousy librarian (Natasha Lyonne of RUSSIAN DOLL) takes over her late father's struggling movie theater, a series of grisly murders caught on camera will transform her into the new queen of indie splatter cinema. Thomas Dekker (TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES), Cassandra Peterson (ELVIRA, MISTRESS OF THE DARK), Noah Segan (DEADGIRL), Mink Stole (FEMALE TROUBLE) and drag legend Peaches Christ co-star in this “huge fun nod to forgotten horror and exploitation via loads of blood and black humor” (Yell! Magazine) produced by Darren Stein (JAWBREAKER).You can see All About Evil now streaming on Shudder.
