But motivation is a slippery thing. It comes and it goes.On some days you have no motivation whatsoever, but on other days, you have so much of it you feel like you could take over the world. It's almost like a coin flip. Sometimes it lands on motivation, other times it lands on no motivation. So instead of waiting for the coin to flip correctly, I'll explain how to use the motivation sequence to motivate yourself.

When I refer to myself as being a frugal person, I see it as a positive I think that it means I am doing smart things with my money and time. It is a choice I made because when I began learning about frugality, I loved all of the ideas and things that went along with frugal living. This is not something that I do out of necessity, but something that I do because I want to. It's something that I am proud of and I work to improve on it all of the time. I do think that to some extent frugal living is for everyone. Some people may not want to take it as far as others, but I'm not sure why anyone would not want to be more in control of their resources. I think the reason why more people don't understand frugal living is that there are misconceptions that cause people to think frugality is much different than it actually is. So, they turn away from it before ever really learning more. Today, I am going to talk about some of those misconceptions. https://www.lolasfrugallife.com https://www.facebook.com/LolasFrugalLife/ Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lolak/support For one month free of Skillshare Premium, go to: skillshare.eqcm.net/lola --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/lolak/support

It's hard to believe that this episode marks 3 years of this podcast. I never in my life would have thought that I would have a podcast that millions of people listen to each week! Just kidding, my listeners are just a tad bit less than millions. But seriously, I never would have imagined having a podcast with actual listeners and some really great positive reviews. When I first started this podcast, it took quite a while before I confidently knew that some of the listen counts were not me or my husband. And, now while I still have a long way to go, I have a successful podcast with a real audience, some of you who continue to tune in each week. So, similar to what I did last year and the year before, I would like to use this as an example of how we can do things that we never thought we could have or would have. And I would like to focus on what often holds us back from doing these things is waiting for the perfect time to do something. https://www.lolasfrugallife.com https://www.facebook.com/LolasFrugalLife/ Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lolak/support For one month free of Skillshare Premium, go to: skillshare.eqcm.net/lola --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/lolak/support

Frugal living is about being intentional with your spending and managing your money in a way that allows you to choose where to spend it. It doesn't mean you have to live without or buy cheap, low-quality products. In fact, those who embrace frugal living recognize the benefits of buying high-quality products that last. Frugal living is about getting the most out of your money and has many benefits beyond finances alone. https://www.lolasfrugallife.com https://www.facebook.com/LolasFrugalLife/ Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lolak/support For one month free of Skillshare Premium, go to: skillshare.eqcm.net/lola --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/lolak/support

For many of us managing our time is very much influenced by others. Having to work around the schedule of children can make managing your time is difficult. Sometimes it's not only working around their schedules but also managing the expected or unexpected interruptions of our time. But, when I thought about it, most of us have to do some type of coordinating our time around the time of others. And while people with children often have less control over interruptions, those things still happen to all of us, sometimes just with less frequency. So, instead of focusing only on time management for those with children, I think this topic can really be applied to many life situations. That may be managing around a hectic work schedule, running a business, tending to animals, your spouse, parents, or really anything that has an impact on the time you have available to work with on any given day. https://www.lolasfrugallife.com https://www.facebook.com/LolasFrugalLife/ Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lolak/support For one month free of Skillshare Premium, go to: skillshare.eqcm.net/lola --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/lolak/support

I'm guessing that some of you might think like me and wonder how much time you spend cleaning compares to others. Sometimes I wonder if it takes me longer to do things than it takes other people. Or I might think about if other people's homes are cleaner than mine because they spend more time cleaning than I do. I also stress over things like the frequency of certain cleaning tasks and if I should be doing something more or less frequently than I do. I know that I should not be wasting time stressing over thoughts about the amount of cleaning I am doing, but the reality is that I sometimes do. https://www.lolasfrugallife.com https://www.facebook.com/LolasFrugalLife/ Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lolak/support For one month free of Skillshare Premium, go to: skillshare.eqcm.net/lola --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/lolak/support

Last week we talked all about gratitude. So, I thought it only made sense to continue the conversation this week by talking about contentment. Contentment goes hand in hand with gratitude. The more grateful we are for the things in our lives, the more likely we will be content with them. When you are grateful for what you have you will naturally feel much more content. Contentment impacts our mental health and our financial health. People that are unhappy with their current situation often make poor financial decisions trying to upgrade their lifestyles before they can actually afford to do so. Instead of being grateful and content with what they have, they are constantly looking for the next best thing. Being content allows us to take time to put thought into lifestyle upgrades without just jumping into them. https://www.lolasfrugallife.com https://www.facebook.com/LolasFrugalLife/ Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lolak/support For one month free of Skillshare Premium, go to: skillshare.eqcm.net/lola --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lolak/support

When you practice gratitude, you make it a point to acknowledge your thankfulness and appreciation for what you have. This applies to both material things and non-material things such as health, family, and friends. When you begin to think about all of the things that you have to be grateful for in your life it can really make you feel more positive about everything. Having that positive mindset can really help in the way you approach everything in your life. Even when we know we are grateful for many things we can forget to think about it when things get challenging. Just trying to get through a busy season can lead us to forget about how many things we have to be grateful for because we are just focused on trying to get by. So, every once in a while it's good to just remind ourselves to try to make thinking about the things we are grateful for a part of our daily practices as much as we can. https://www.lolasfrugallife.com https://www.facebook.com/LolasFrugalLife/ Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lolak/support For one month free of Skillshare Premium, go to: skillshare.eqcm.net/lola --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lolak/support

Do you have an emergency fund or would you like to start one? Having an emergency fund can make such a big difference in our financial wellness. It also helps reduce stress when financial emergencies arise. Having some money put aside can help you stay out of debt and make it much easier to handle unexpected expenses. If you think about it you can probably think of many examples that demonstrate the adverse relationship between intensity and consistency. The more intense you are in the activity you are pursuing, the less likely you will be consistent in that activity. This is why when we try to make drastic life changes we often don't stick to them. They are too intense of a change. We are trying to push ourselves too hard, so instead of making improvements, we stay the same. Instead of doing something to get us closer to where we want to be, we go really hard for a short period of time and then quit. So, while we might think we are doing good by pushing ourselves hard, we would have been better off by going less intense and making a change that we can stick with. https://www.lolasfrugallife.com https://www.facebook.com/LolasFrugalLife/ Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lolak/support For one month free of Skillshare Premium, go to: skillshare.eqcm.net/lola --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lolak/support

None of us want to waste money on groceries. There are other reasons it feels terrible to waste food, but we do not always consider the impact on our budgets. With the cost of groceries having risen so much it's even more important to waste as little food as possible. We don't want to buy groceries at such high prices and then end up not being able to eat them. Every time we purchase food and end up throwing it in the trash we have to remind ourselves that we could have used that money on something else. https://www.lolasfrugallife.com https://www.facebook.com/LolasFrugalLife/ Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lolak/support For one month free of Skillshare Premium, go to: skillshare.eqcm.net/lola --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lolak/support

Just like we get the most out of the money we have when we budget and manage it well, the same can be said for our time. There are things we can do to increase the amount of money we bring in so that we can have more to put toward the things we love. Unfortunately, we cannot make more time, so we need to be even more careful with how we use it! If we put some effort into making the most of our time we can often accomplish things that we would have thought were not possible. And just like we might find ways we were wasting money when we really start to track our spending, the same can be said about the time we might be wasting. Just like we might have to cut some things out of our financial budget to have enough money to spend on the things we value, we may have to do the same thing to excess items in our schedule. This is not something that can be perfected instantly, just like the budget. But, by starting somewhere and making little changes, you will see that you can probably find some more time in your day to do the things that are important to you. Even if that's only a little bit of extra time, it will still have an impact on your life. https://www.lolasfrugallife.com https://www.facebook.com/LolasFrugalLife/ Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lolak/support For one month free of Skillshare Premium, go to: skillshare.eqcm.net/lola --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lolak/support

With the New Year upon us, we often set goals for the upcoming year. We might feel like it's a fresh start and we feel the desire to make improvements to our lives. Of course, goals can be started at any time. The New Year feels like a fun time to set some goals. Creating goals has many benefits regardless of the time of year you make them. Goals help you accomplish the things that are most important to you. They give you something to put your mind, time and energy too. Goals also help keep you motivated by having something to work towards. Setting goals and dreaming about the things we would like to do can be really fun and inspiring. However, if we do not take steps to make sure we are clear on our goals and how we will achieve them, they often get forgotten about https://www.lolasfrugallife.com https://www.facebook.com/LolasFrugalLife/ Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lolak/support For one month free of Skillshare Premium, go to: skillshare.eqcm.net/lola --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lolak/support

I don't know about you, but many of my regular routines had to be put aside to get through the last month leading up to Christmas and the New Year. Although I was able to keep up with the minimums, I definitely was not keeping up with everything in the way I would like to in less busy times of life. Depending on the season, it can be easy to get out of our routines, especially cleaning routines. A certain level of cleaning is always needed, but this is definitely an area that often gets put on the back burner when life gets hectic. This often occurs during the holiday season. Even if we are going crazy cleaning for visitors, there are often other things behind the scenes that are getting put aside. It is totally OK that this happens, and you should plan on it happening when you have busy times coming up. Letting some things go when life gets super busy is essential to do so that you do not burn yourself out. However, when life gets back to normal we often wonder how to get back to the good routines that we had in place. https://www.lolasfrugallife.com https://www.facebook.com/LolasFrugalLife/ Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lolak/support For one month free of Skillshare Premium, go to: skillshare.eqcm.net/lola --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lolak/support

With the cost of groceries having risen so much recently many of us are trying to do everything we can to cut back on what we are spending on food. Even if we had a pretty good budget in place and were able to stick to it in the past, it has become more and more difficult to do so. None of us want to waste food. But, now with the cost of groceries being so high, it is even more important to make sure that we are actually eating what we purchase. If you are not already meal planning, there is a good chance that you may be purchasing food or ingredients that you intend to eat but end up throwing out. Every time we have to throw away food that did not get eaten, it's like we are throwing money away. That food that could have been used as part of a meal will now need to be replaced by purchasing more food. https://www.lolasfrugallife.com https://www.facebook.com/LolasFrugalLife/ Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lolak/support For one month free of Skillshare Premium, go to: skillshare.eqcm.net/lola --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lolak/support

We often say that we want to do certain things at different times of the year. In the summer, maybe we want to make sure we spend lots of time outside. In the fall, we might want to go apple or pumpkin picking. And then in the winter, we often have plenty of ideas for holiday-related activities we would like to do. Sometimes, we can say we will do these things in the next season, but then when the season comes our days just get taken up with other things. Instead of doing something you would really enjoy, you can get caught up in all of the other things that take up your days. Or you might even just spend the day not doing much of anything. This happens if we just let the time go by without planning what we want to do with our time. Just as we put productive things on our schedule that we want to get done, we should make sure to plan time specifically for fun in our schedule. Having a plan can be even more important when you have a family with different schedules. If you are not intentional about when everyone can be available to do something together, the days can easily get away from you. https://www.lolasfrugallife.com https://www.facebook.com/LolasFrugalLife/ Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lolak/support For one month free of Skillshare Premium, go to: skillshare.eqcm.net/lola --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lolak/support

Being frugal is being smart with your money and using it in the best way possible. So, to me, frugal gifts are likely to be used by the individual to whom the gift is given. Of course with most gifts, there will be some need to know about what the individual likes. But, there are many gifts that a good amount of people would like and use. Practical gifts to me are ones that I will use and enjoy in my regular daily living. So, today I am going to share some gift ideas that I would consider both frugal and practical, for the most part! https://www.lolasfrugallife.com https://www.facebook.com/LolasFrugalLife/ Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lolak/support For one month free of Skillshare Premium, go to: skillshare.eqcm.net/lola --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lolak/support
