Esmerlyn Valdez and Tyler Callihan are giving the Pirates exactly what they need while Spencer Horwitz and Oneil Cruz are sidelined. Alex Stumpf breaks down the power both young hitters have shown, what stands out about their swings and why Pittsburgh's depth finally looks different from a year ago. Ryan O'Hearn's two-homer performance helped the Pirates avoid a sweep, but the bigger long-term question is whether Valdez and Callihan can turn this opportunity into permanent roles. Most of us know how much sleep matters for our overall well-being, but we don't always think about how much the state we fall asleep in affects us. The quality of our sleep cycles, our dreaming, and how we wake up feeling the next morning are all shaped by what our nervous system is carrying when we close our eyes. In this Guided Sleep Meditation for Self-Love, you'll be led through gentle somatic practices designed to help your nervous system settle, and your heart soften as you drift off to sleep. You'll be invited to connect with a warm, healing quality of love and to cultivate that as a real, felt experience in the body, so that you can close your eyes tonight feeling cared for, peaceful, and truly loved. This is a beautiful way to close your day and a meaningful way to deepen your relationship with yourself, one night at a time. Perfect for deep sleep, nervous system regulation, self-love, stress relief, and cultivating a deeper and more compassionate relationship with yourself. (And if you want to deepen your self-love in a tangible way when you're awake again, my Meditation for Secure Attachment with Yourself is a beautiful place to continue exploring how to build a relationship with yourself where feeling loved becomes something real and embodied in everyday life.) You've been told to get eight hours of sleep your whole life. Dr. Michael Breus — The Sleep Doctor — says that's not only wrong, it may be making things worse. In this conversation with Dwayne Kerrigan, one of the world's foremost sleep specialists breaks down the science of when to sleep, when to drink caffeine, when to workout, and why most people's sleep problems aren't about how much they sleep — they're about when. In this episode: The four chronotypes — Lion, Bear, Wolf, and Dolphin — and why knowing yours could reduce your total sleep while dramatically improving quality; plus why 55% of the population are Bears, and what that means for your nine-to-five schedule The 90-minute caffeine rule: how adrenaline and cortisol make caffeine useless for the first 90 minutes after waking, and when to stop caffeine entirely to protect your sleep The biology of the 1:00–3:00 AM wake-up: every human on Earth wakes up in this window due to a cortisol spike — and Dr. Breus's four-step protocol for getting back to sleep, including the four-seven-eight breathing technique developed by Dr. Andrew Weil for Navy snipers Why alcohol destroys Stage 3 and 4 deep sleep — the physical restoration stage where the brain's glymphatic system flushes beta amyloid and tau proteins linked to Alzheimer's disease — and the exact wine-with-dinner timing strategy that lets you drink without wrecking your sleep Sleep tracking devices: why none of them are accurate for measuring sleep stages, why rings outperform wristbands, why you should only review your tracker data once a week, and how to use trend analysis rather than nightly numbers Dr. Breus's personal disclosure: he has moderate obstructive sleep apnea and stops breathing 26 times an hour — and why he wants every listener to stop avoiding sleep testing out of fear Discover Your Chronotype - Take The Quiz: https://sleepdoctor.com/pages/dr-breus-podcast-dwayne-kerrigan Episode Highlights: 00:00 - Entrepreneurs Sleep Differently 00:33 - Welcome and Guest Introduction 01:06 - Tony Robbins Connection 03:17 - Meet Dr Michael Breus 05:05 - Middle of Night Awakenings 07:40 - Understanding Chronotypes 11:31 - The Lion Chronotype 12:47 - The Bear Chronotype 13:18 - The Wolf Chronotype 14:23 - The Dolphin Chronotype 18:07 - Bad Sleep Habits 20:39 - Morning Workouts and Cortisol 22:27 - Perfect Time for Sex 25:20 - Understanding Cortisol 26:37 - Why We Wake at 3AM 28:57 - Don't Go Pee 30:52 - Don't Look at the Clock 31:43 - Four Seven Eight Breathing 34:59 - Getting Out of Bed 36:28 - Stay Positive 38:06 - Breathing Technique Recap 38:51 - Breathing Techniques Really Work 42:50 - Alcohol and Sleep Quality 46:47 - Caffeine Timing Guidelines 49:49 - Cannabis and Sleep 51:39 - Understanding Sleep Stages 54:29 - Sleep Cycles Explained 56:11 - Sleep Tracking Devices 01:00:08 - Choosing the Right Tracker 01:04:18 - Heart Rate Variability 01:07:17 - Quality Over Quantity 01:08:46 - Sleep Apnea and Testing 01:12:12 - Finding Your Sleep Need 01:12:36 - Closing Thoughts and Stay Tuned for Part 2 Resources mentioned: Several of Dr. Michael Breus' books – The Power of When, Energize!, The Sleep Doctor's Diet Plan, Good Night, and Sleep, Drink, Breathe Four-seven-eight breathing technique — developed by Dr. Andrew Weil Muse headband — brainwave monitoring headband for sleep and meditation Oura Ring — sleep tracking ring Whoop Strap — activity and sleep tracker Apple Watch — sleep tracking The Happy Ring from Happy Sleep — FDA-approved ring for sleep studies Tony Robbins's book Unleash the Power Within Quotes: “Eight hours is a myth, man. Yes! (Danny's writing this) - especially when the author is my co-host, David K. Shipler. Dave's novel, The Interpreter - now out in paperback - takes us into the rice paddies and twisting alleys of Vietnam, right after US troops fled the war there in 1973. But Dave explores provocative issues that would resonate in Iran or China or any country where interpreters play a crucial role for Americans. David Ignatius, the acclaimed associate editor and columnist of the The Washington Post, reviews it like this: "Shipler captures the awful truth that every correspondent knows - that we are unworthy of the brave men and women who act as our translators and ‘fixers,' the solitary heroes living between two languages and cultures but refusing to take sides." Dave's novel raises provocative questions, sure, but some of my favorite parts are like Vietnam travelogs: images of streets pulsing with motorbikes piled with families, chickens and guavas; lush jungles and spidery canals; and Vietnam's foul-smelling but magical-tasting fish sauce.

In this episode, I'm talking about divine timing and the moments in life that made me realize that everything really does happen for a reason. From walking away from situations that no longer felt aligned, to unexpected financial blessings, new opportunities, and even strangers showing up at the exact moment I needed encouragement — this episode is a reminder that God's timing is always greater than our own.I also open up about personal experiences where I had to choose faith over fear, trust myself, and stop trying to control every outcome. We'll talk about how delays can actually be protection, how opportunities can appear when you least expect them, and why trusting the process can completely change the way you move through life.If you've been feeling discouraged, confused about your path, or wondering if things will ever fall into place for you, this episode is for you. Sometimes the moments we think are random are actually part of a bigger purpose unfolding in perfect timing.
Most reps use the same signals and get ignored. Brendan Short shows how to find timing signals no one else can see and turn them into outbound that actually gets responses.

What happens when the opportunities we give our kids become the pressure we put on ourselves? Dr. Jennifer Dragonette, our resident therapist expert, is back with us to dig into the gap between what we want for our families and what our families actually want. It started with a cruise my triplets didn't enjoy, a conversation with another dad at a basketball game, and an NHL hockey player from our local high school who was the star goalie in the recent winter Olympics. Our conversation focuses on the instinct to provide our kids with opportunities we never had, and how that instinct can quietly turn into pressure on everyone, especially parents. Dr. Jen shares her own stories of loosening the reins on family adventures and learning to ask rather than guess what her kids want. We explore why teenagers pulling away is developmentally normal, why honest answers from our kids are an act of trust, and how reframing our goal from raising teenagers to raising adults changes everything. If you've ever spent money on a vacation and wondered why no one seemed grateful, or felt the weight of the countdown to when your kids leave home, this one's for you. Try asking your kids one question this week: "What would feel really good to you?" And then actually listen. If you've ever felt successful on the outside but misaligned on the inside, or wondered how to design a life that truly feels meaningful and aligned, today's episode will give you a powerful new way to think about your future. In this episode of The Art of Living Well Podcast®, Marnie and Stephanie sit down with designer, author, educator, and longtime host of the Design Matters podcast, Debbie Millman. Debbie shares the powerful 10-year life design exercise she has taught students for more than 15 years that helps people imagine their future without limitations. Many people appear successful on the surface yet feel disconnected from what truly matters to them. Debbie explains how writing a declaration about your future can help you reconnect with what you actually want, move past fear and self-doubt, and begin taking courageous steps toward the life you envision. Whether you're navigating midlife transitions, career shifts, or simply feeling called to something more meaningful, this conversation will inspire you to pause, reflect, and ask yourself one powerful question: If not now, when? Key Takeaways: Prioritizing courage is the first step toward designing a life that truly aligns with who you are. Writing a 10-year vision for your life can expand what you believe is possible. Confidence develops through repetition and taking action, not waiting until you feel ready. Many people live lives that look impressive on paper but feel misaligned internally. Fear often comes from internal barriers rather than external limitations. Declaring your dreams out loud can shift your mindset and create momentum. Midlife can be the perfect time to rethink what you truly want next. Designing your future begins with giving yourself permission to imagine it. We're always waiting for the “perfect time.”When life slows down. When we feel more motivated. When everything is finally in order. But what if that moment never comes? In this episode, I talk about the illusion of perfect timing, the power of radical self-responsibility, and how shifting our focus to what we can control can completely change our reality. If you've been waiting for the right moment to start something, this episode is your reminder:There's no perfect time — only the moment you decide to begin.
Let's be real for a second: the "perfect time" is a myth we tell ourselves so we don't have to start. If you've been sitting on an idea, a goal, or a version of yourself that you're dying to meet, but you're waiting for the stars to align... this episode is your sign to be honest with yourself. I just turned 40 last month. And I don't know what shifts inside at midlife, but something changes when you hit this milestone. You start asking different questions: "Is this it?" "Is this who I really am?" "Is this all there is for me?" And if you've been battling an eating disorder for decades—maybe 10 years, maybe 20, maybe 30—you're asking an even harder question: "Who am I without this?" It's Eating Disorder Awareness Month. And this year, I want to talk about something we don't talk about enough—eating disorders in midlife. Did you know that eating disorder hospitalizations for women aged 45-65 have increased by 42% in the last decade? And yet, we still act like eating disorders are just a "young woman's problem." But if you're a woman in your late 30s, 40s, 50s, or beyond, and you're still struggling, I see you. This is NOT just a young woman's issue. And this episode? This one's for you. Because here's the truth: Midlife is an identity crisis. And breaking up with your eating disorder? That's an identity crisis too. And when those two collide, it can feel overwhelming. But what if this collision isn't a crisis at all? What if it's a crossroads? What if midlife is the PERFECT time to finally break free? IN THIS EPISODE, YOU'LL DISCOVER: Why midlife identity crisis and ED identity crisis are shockingly similar The statistics: 42% increase in ED hospitalizations for women 45-65, 13% of women over 50 engage in disordered eating Why more women are reaching out for support in midlife (and why that's powerful) The 5 reasons why NOW is the perfect season to go all in on recovery Why menopause/perimenopause can actually SUPPORT your recovery, not hinder it How to answer "I've had this for 30 years—how can I possibly recover now?" Real client stories: Women who recovered at 47, 52, and 61 What life AFTER ED in midlife actually looks like The reframe: This isn't a crisis, it's a crossroads Why the second half of your life is waiting for you to reclaim it KEY QUOTES
