Key Takeaway: Procrastination isn't about what you're avoiding — it's about what you're feeling. Master your emotions, and you'll master your follow-through.

Later that night, he was there alone, 24 and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it. 25 Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake.26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It's a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear. 27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid.” 28 “Lord, if it's you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” 29 “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” 31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” 32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33 Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”Points for SlidesFaith in the Mind → Fueled by God thoughts (Romans 12:2)Faith in the Mouth → “Faith is voice-activated” (Romans 10:9–10)Faith in the Movement → Faith isn't fruitful until you make a moveVerseJames 2:17 (NIV) – “Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”Point 1 – God Has a Destination for YouMatthew 14:22 – “Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side.”Point 2 – Storms Will ComeMatthew 14:24 – “But the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.”Matthew 14:27 – “Take courage! Making Tax Digital for Income Tax may sound technical, but we break it down simply. In this episode, we share what MTD for ITSA is, who needs to comply, when it starts, and how to prepare effectively. If you're a sole trader, landlord, or small business owner, this episode is essential listening. What You'll Learn in This Episode What Making Tax Digital for Income Tax is and why it matters. Who must comply, who is exempt, and turnover thresholds. How to prepare with compatible software and proper bookkeeping. Practical steps to avoid fines, stress, and last-minute panic. Real examples of businesses affected by MTD. Making Tax Digital Explained MTD for Income Tax is HMRC's plan to move tax reporting into the digital world. Instead of submitting one annual return, you'll send four quarterly updates via approved software. It's like switching from a paper diary to an online calendar—more visibility, fewer surprises, and closer monitoring of compliance. Who Must Comply If you are a sole trader or a landlord and your turnover exceeds £50,000 in 2024/25, you must join MTD from 6 April 2026. Turnover here means income before expenses. HMRC looks at the full amount coming in, not what you keep after costs. Practical Examples from the Episode Here are some real-life examples mentioned in the episode to show how MTD rules apply in practice: Deepak, a self-employed builder, has a turnover of £55,000 in 24/25. He must join MTD from April 2026. Sarah, a landlord renting three flats with gross rental income of £48,000 in 25/26, must join MTD from April 2027. Paul, a market trader with turnover of £52,000 in 24/25, is seasonal but still exceeds the threshold, so he must join in April 2026. Exemptions and Exceptions Not everyone needs to join immediately. If your income is below £20,000, or you qualify based on age, disability, or location, you can apply for exemption. Exemption does not remove the requirement to file a self-assessment; it only exempts you from quarterly digital updates. For example, a freelance designer earning £14,000 per year is under the threshold and does not need to join MTD. Preparing for MTD Choose compatible software—Xero, QuickBooks, or FreeAgent are common options. (We recommend Xero as a Platinum partner.) Authorize the software to link with HMRC for quarterly updates. Decide who handles submissions—yourself or an accountant—and agree on fees upfront. Keep bookkeeping accurate and up to date; don't wait until year-end. Consider joining voluntarily early to test the system and gain confidence, like Sebastian, who signed up early in 24/25 and felt stress-free by April 26. Benefits of Preparing Early Early preparation reduces stress, avoids penalties, and gives better control of cash flow. You can see quarterly profits building, plan tax efficiently, and identify whether incorporating or other planning is beneficial. Avoid last-minute panic and get ahead of HMRC deadlines. Real Consequences of Delay Leopold set up his software a week before the first submission and struggled with data import, missed the submission, and faced unnecessary fines. Don't be like Leopold—preparing early is key. Key Takeaways Sole traders and landlords with turnover above the thresholds must prepare for MTD for Income Tax. Don't wait for HMRC letters—take control early, choose the right software, maintain accurate records, and seek advice if needed. Early action keeps you compliant, confident, and stress-free.

Send us a textStop Saying “Someday” + Teacher Career Transition Tips from Knight and DayEver notice how “someday” sounds like a plan… until it becomes your excuse? This week, I'm diving into the utterly bananas spy movie Knight and Day—and pulling out some surprisingly relevant lessons for teachers on the edge of burnout. Between Tom Cruise's calm chaos and Cameron Diaz's underestimated genius, there's a message every teacher-in-transition needs to hear:If you keep waiting for the right time, you'll wait forever.
So many of us wait for the “right moment” to pursue our dreams - but the truth is, you are the alignment you've been waiting for. In this episode, I'll share why waiting for external permission keeps you stuck, and how to step into your own alignment now so opportunities, clarity, and confidence can naturally flow. In today's episode, Courtney dives into a theme that came up repeatedly with her clients this week: wanting to make a change, but not actually doing it.What You'll Hear in This Episode:Why women often put themselves last—and how our “primitive brain” keeps us stuck in waiting mode. The myth of perfect timing: Why “when things slow down” is never the real answer. The role of resistance: Why even the things you deeply want will feel hard in the moment. How to create a compelling why that excites you enough to overcome obstacles.Practical strategies to move from intention to action:Decide exactly when you'll do the thing.Anticipate the excuses and resistance in advance.Take decisions off your plate ahead of time to make follow-through easier.Real-life client stories on wanting to create more art, grow businesses, or get healthier—and the mindset shifts that helped them take action.Courtney's own example of finally updating her business website after two and a half years of delay, and how following her own advice helped her stop waiting.Key TakeawayWanting something isn't enough. To actually do it, you need a clear why, a plan for resistance, and small daily actions that build momentum. The good news? You don't have to wait for a milestone or the “perfect time.” You get to decide—today—that this is your next chapter.Links & ResourcesSign up for Courtney's free webinar: Your Next Chapter → https://mailchi.mp/a793710c0ecf/yournextchapterInterested in speaking with me about how we can work together? Are you caught in the trap of telling yourself, "when the kids finish school, then I'll focus on me" or "once work slows down, then I'll pursue my dreams"? In this powerful solo episode, Jo cuts through the excuses we tell ourselves and reveals why waiting for the perfect moment is costing us precious years of our lives. Drawing from neuroscience and real client stories, this conversation will challenge you to recognise the mental patterns keeping you stuck and give you the tools to break free from the waiting game once and for all.Key TakeawaysYour Brain Is Wired to Keep You WaitingNeuroscience shows us that our brains use the "not yet, it's not safe, you're not ready" narrative to protect us from uncertainty. This negativity bias keeps us clinging to the familiar, even when it's no longer serving us. Recognising this as a biological response, not truth, is the first step to freedom.Life Doesn't Stop While You're PlanningTime is a precious, finite gift that continues moving whether we're ready or not. The women who wait until their children leave home often find themselves overwhelmed by empty nest syndrome and identity shifts all at once, whilst those who plan ahead feel prepared and excited for their next chapter.Three Steps to Break the Waiting CycleFirst, catch your exact excuses and notice the stories you repeat to yourself. Second, take one brave, imperfect step this week, no matter how small. Third, simply decide that now is the right time because there's no perfect day circled on any calendar waiting for you.Small Actions Create Big ChangesYou don't need everything figured out to begin. Jo shares how starting her podcast without being "ready" led to over 150 episodes and a thriving community. One client who couldn't wait five more years took just one step, and it changed everything.Midlife Isn't a Waiting RoomThis season of life is an invitation, not a holding pattern. Instead of asking "when will I be ready?" start asking "what would I change if I decided now was the right time?" The answer to that question holds the key to your next chapter.Your Next Chapter Starts NowIf this episode has you thinking "this is exactly what I need to hear," consider this your sign to stop waiting. What's one small step you could take this week towards something you've been postponing? Whether it's booking that class, having that conversation, or writing down a dream you've been afraid to voice, your future self will thank you for starting today.Journal on these questions and notice what comes up for you. How many times have you told yourself you'll start when things are “perfect”? The perfect timing, the perfect plan, the perfect version of you? Truth is — perfect is a moving target. And waiting for it? That's how dreams stall before they ever get moving. In this episode, Jamie shares her own struggles with perfectionism and how self-sabotage can sneak in before the starting line. She talks about the pressure and criticism we all face in today's world, and why that can keep us stuck in “prep mode” instead of taking action.Jamie also walks through two simple tools that have helped her break the perfection loop:The 5-4-3-2-1 Method by Mel Robbins — for taking immediate action before your brain talks you out of it.The Let Them Theory — for releasing the weight of other people's opinions so you can focus on your lane. You'll learn how these strategies can help you gain confidence, build momentum, and refine your process along the way — without waiting for the mythical “perfect time.”What You'll Hear in This Episode:Why perfection is an illusion that keeps you from startingHow momentum builds confidence — not the other way aroundReal-world strategies for starting messy and refining as you goJamie's own “Ritz Carlton standards” approach to excellence — built after the start, not beforeChallenge for the Week: Pick one thing you've been waiting to “perfect” — and start this week. You'll learn why working with nature's rhythm makes change easier to sustain, how to identify what's thriving in your life (and what needs pruning), and how to plant one meaningful seed that will be rooted before the holiday chaos hits.Whether you're sipping iced tea on the porch or getting kids ready for school, this is your invitation to start your “new year” now—while the light is golden, the energy is high, and the possibilities are ripe for picking. What You'll Learn in This Episode:Why January is the worst time for big life changesThe natural rhythm of seasons—and how they apply to your goalsThe power of pruning: letting go of what's draining youHow to define your own “harvest” in midlifeOne small, intentional step to start right nowLinks & Resources:Connect with Laurie on Instagram: @SchoolofMidlifeLearn more about the Best Life Retreat in Sun Valley, Idaho

This episode comes straight from a moment of clarity — as I was packing for our family's beach house, something hit me. Not the house, not the milestone... but the decisions it took to get here.Truth is, the life and business you're dreaming of? It doesn't just show up one day after you hit the “right” number or build the perfect team. It's built long before you're ready, through bold moves and scary leaps. In this episode, I'm sharing a conversation I wish someone had with me earlier — about what it really takes to build a business that supports your life, instead of running it. And I break it down in a way that's simple, actionable, and real.
In this episode of The Tech Leader's Playbook, Avetis Antaplyan dives deep into the core leadership principle of extreme ownership. In this solo episode, Avetis, a seasoned entrepreneur and tech leader, delivers a powerful and unfiltered message on why every leader must take full responsibility for their culture, team performance, and company outcomes—regardless of external circumstances. He breaks down how blame limits growth, how silence equals agreement, and why leaders must set the tone through their energy and actions. Through real-world analogies and personal leadership philosophies, Avetis challenges listeners to stop outsourcing blame and instead reclaim control by owning every part of the organization's success—or failure. He emphasizes that toxic culture, lack of urgency, or underperformance are reflections of leadership neglect, and the fix starts at the top.Whether you're a CEO, founder, or team lead, this episode is a direct call to courage, clarity, and bold decision-making. If you're ready to elevate your leadership, tune in and learn how to become the thermostat—not the thermometer—in your company.TakeawaysExtreme ownership is the starting line for effective leadership.Blame is a ceiling on growth—leaders must take responsibility to evolve.Culture is a mirror of the leader; toxic teams reflect leadership gaps.Every issue—hiring, morale, results—can be traced back to leadership choices.Silence from a leader signals approval; address issues early and clearly.Responsibility isn't a burden—it's your power source as a leader.Don't settle in hiring; motivated teams start with intentional recruitment.Blaming external forces strips you of control; own the situation to fix it.Leaders must energize the team daily—your presence sets the tone.Asking your team “What did I do wrong?” creates space for honest feedback.Don't make 100 small decisions—make one bold, decisive move.Leadership isn't about guilt; it's about doing something now to shift outcomes.Chapters00:00 Intro & Leadership Mindset01:12 What Is Extreme Ownership?02:17 Culture Is a Mirror03:58 Underperformance Starts at the Top04:55 Silence Equals Agreement06:11 Structure and Ownership Create Freedom08:23 Reclaim the Steering Wheel09:35 Energy Sets the Tone10:26 Asking the Hard Questions11:40 Bold Leadership Is EverythingResources and Links:https://www.hireclout.comhttps://www.podcast.hireclout.comhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/hirefasthireright
Have you ever found yourself thinking you need to wait until things calm down before you can ask for help? Whether it's a big life change, a new job, or an intense project, we often convince ourselves that we're not deserving of support until we've made it through the storm. I noticed this theme pop up during my recent membership launch, and it completely shifted how I think about receiving support. In this episode, I'll break down why waiting until the chaos subsides to get help is actually a form of perfectionism. I'll show you why receiving support during challenging times can lead to the biggest breakthroughs and how to spot this pattern when it shows up in your own life.
