SARS has hit back at the Tax Ombud by claiming that only less than one percent of all refunds that it processes have been delayed. This after the Ombud released a report stating that it has received more complaints of delays in refunds in the previous financial year since its office was formed in 2014. The ombud classified the delays as being systemic while SARS believes the delays are an exception rather than a rule. The CEO of the Office of the Tax Ombudsman, Advocate Eric Mkhawane says the scope of the delays varies from corporate millions to a few rands to the man in the street. we speak to Group Executive responsible for Tax Relationship Management at SARS, Mark Kingon who says the the findings by the Ombud are not systemic bur rather an exception to the rule.

The South Africa Revenue Service (Sars) has warned dishonest taxpayers that they will turn up the heat on those who try to cheat the system. This as SARS collected over a trillion rand for the 2015 / 2016 tax year. Despite this, there are some tax payers who have lodged complaints with the office of the Tax Ombudsman regarding discrapancies in how they have been taxed. Last year the office tabled the 2014/15 annual report which found that 75 percent of complaints lodged by taxpayers to the Ombud against SARS had been resolved in favour of taxpayers. We spoke to the CEO at office of Tax Ombud, Advocate Eric Mkhawane about the office's mandate....
