Mynxxi White is a photographer and filmmaker from New York City. Specialising in celebrity portrait and commercial work she started out as a makeup artist and then creative director but was frustrated by some of her collaborators to the point that nearly 10 years ago she picked up the camera herself and hasn't looked back. We missed each other in Germany earlier this year so I'm thrilled that we got to sit down and talk about our shared love of image making, the work she's looking to take on next and the lens she needed to shut all the boys up when she walked into a room.More about this show:A camera is just a tool but spend enough time with photographers and you'll see them go misty eyed when they talk about their first camera or a small fast prime that they had in their youth. Prime Lenses is a series of interviews with photographers talking about their photography by way of three lenses that mean a lot to them. These can be interchangeable, attached to a camera, integrated into a gadget, I'm interested in the sometimes complex relationship we have with the tools we choose, why they can mean so much and how they make us feel.

On this episode, we're joined by Andrew R. Holmes, Professor of History at Queen's University Belfast. Specialising in the history of religion in Ireland from the seventeenth century to the present, Andrew has authored significant works, including his most recent contribution is co-editing The Oxford Handbook of Religion in Modern Ireland (2024) with Gladys Ganiel, a comprehensive volume exploring the evolution of religious life in Ireland.
In this episode, Sam's guest is Paul Folan. After 20 years of working for a major UK high street retail bank, Paul jumped ship to retrain as a group fitness instructor, personal trainer, sports therapist, sports nutritionist...and other things! Specialising in Phase IV cardiac rehab and special populations, Paul developed his businesses, opening his own Personal Training studios with his then business partner. After 17 years together, Paul now has his own Personal Training gym, continues to run group exercise classes and personal training sessions online and uses his NLP skills to continue to support his clients both inside and outside of their training sessions. Paul's falling story is different from many previous guests as the ‘failure' is not caused because he is doing anything wrong. In fact, he is doing everything right, to the letter. Paul beautifully articulates the difference between doing the thing right and doing the right thing – they can often be very different things. What we do with people is not the same as how we be with them and both are important for a coaching relationship to be successful. In his flowing story, Paul reminds us of the power of an apology. He shares how a heartfelt apology demonstrated that he heard the other person which immediately took the heat out of a situation and enabled the relationship to continue and build.
