As we've become increasingly disconnected from our world and nature, the state of the planet has declined at quite a rapid rate. The threat of climate change is at our door. We are on the precipice of a mass extinction. If as a society we are disconnected from nature, we are not going to have the impetus to want to protect the planet'. Josh goes on to say, ‘I started Reptile Encounters because I want to give students the chance to connect with nature. I believe that people need to have that ‘inspire' moment to be able to make the connection for themselves. By meeting animals in the flesh we engender a respect for our environment and equip students to make a difference!' Open to the public by appointment ONLY! Reptile Encounters was founded in 2007 and is now in its 17th year of operation. Founder Josh Cox has had a lifelong love of Australian wildlife and was keen to have his own business and share his passion with the public. Initially, Reptile Encounters began with Josh as the sole presenter of reptile shows and a small collection of animals. He operated from home, and the majority of his business was weekend birthday parties. However it wasn't long before schools began enquiring and the focus of the business has gradually shifted. Josh quit his pharmaceutical sales job in 2009 to run Reptile Encounters full time and is now offering reptile parties for kids, corporate events & team building activities. He founded and ran a consulting business for nearly a decade before transitioning into strategic management roles within the not-for-profit sector. Alex is also a lecturer in postgraduate studies teaching Business Strategy, Marketing and Data Analytics. His leadership journey began as one of Victoria's youngest politically independent Mayors. He previously served on Maroondah City Council (2005 to 2012) and as Mayor in 2010, where he helped transform Ringwood into a dynamic urban centre. In this documentary, Neil looks at the emergence of location sound recording for cinema and one of the significant technological developments that enabled this.  Starting with the Italian neorealism movement of the late 1940's, the desire for dialogue authenticity gained hold in 1950's Hollywood films. This and the artistic truth of French New Wave filmmaking in the 1960's led to the indispensability of the location sound recordist by the 1970's and one of their important needs was met by the invention and refinement of the now-familiar microphone basket windshield. Anna Petchell is a woman with not just one, but many cool jobs, including as a Sport Outside Broadcast Camera Operator & Super Yatch Crew Career Coach. The steps she has taken were often seldom paved by women in fields traditionally done by men.As a Freelance Sport Outside Broadcast Camera Operator, she films the big outside sports events, such as football, rugby, tennis, Formula One, lacrosse, hockey, and cricket. She especially loves women's football (a.k.a soccer here in the U.S.)She also was an officer on a superyacht, where girls often are not captains, engineers or officers. Now she helps yacht crew discover their inner compass so they can leave the industry and be successful and confident in finding a new career afterwards. Anna shares what she does in both the broadcast and yatching fields. Episode 41 (aka Season 3 episode 2): On January 2nd 1923, John Reith interviewed Miss Frances Isobel Shields for a job at the BBC, to be his secretary. At the time the BBC had four or five male staff members. Miss Shields started work on January 8th, instantly making the BBC a 20% female organisation. It's been greater than that ever since. This episode's fab guest is Dr Kate Murphy: academic, former producer of BBC's Woman's Hour and author of Behind the Wireless: A History of Early Women at the BBC. Her book is brilliant and highly recommended for a deep dive into the subject. Hear Isobel Shields' tale, plus the women who broadcast before her: Britain's first DJ Gertrude Donisthorpe, 2LO's first children's presenter Vivienne Chatterton, and one of our first broadcast comedians Helena Millais. (You can hear their fuller tales if you go back to the earlier episodes on this podcast.) And hear about some of the women who joined the BBC soon after Miss Shields, like telephonist Olive May and women's staff supervisor Caroline Banks. Plus hear about some of John Reith's unusual management practices, from taking his secretaries to the cinema to his brutal firing criteria. But we dwell on his hiring not firing, as well tell the origin story of British broadcasting.  And Dr Murphy will return on future episodes! With tales of the first Women's Hour (not Woman's Hour) in May 1923, and the early female managers, like Mary Somerville and Hilda Matheson. Standing next to a crackling fire pot in the courtyard at the Sam Miranda cellar door in winter has to be one of life's true pleasures. Simon and Nick chat to Sam about the Miranda family and wine plus his journey to this special part of the King at Oxley. Life here is a far cry from the heady days in the money market in Sydney but Sam wouldn't have it any other way. Simon and Nick chat with Felix Gamze about the smokehouse cafe in Milawa and the business he runs from the factory in Wangaratta servicing all of Victoria. Free range smoked meat, Felix tells how he moved into smoking meats over 10 years ago and has since perfected the recipes and techniques. The menu at the cafe makes it a must visit, no wonder returning skiers call in for a feed and to stock up on their smoked meats. @gamzesmokehouse

Nathan Munt chats about his brewery in the King Valley near Whitfield, they are doing some traditional German beers that even get the Germans excited. The perfect accompaniment to the wood fired pizzas they produce are awesome, this is a great story and a must see when you are in the area.
