Your favourite wrestler WISHES he could handle this lore! On this episode of Smark & Friends, we welcome writer Todd Matthy, creator of DISCIPLE! A comic that blends equal measures of Monday Night RAW and American Gods, Disciple tells the tale of Jesse, an aspiring pro-wrestler that makes a Faustian bargain with the God of War himself! The campaign to fund Disciple was launched on Kickstarter earlier this month. Between this episode's recording and release, Disciple reached its funding goal and is presently pursuing awesome stretch goals! Our Voltron friends, Dana, Rye and Todd join Marc and Greg to review the first episode of Season 8 of Voltron Legendary Defender, Launch Date. Dana, who lives in Tennessee, recently had lost all of her possessions in a fire at her family's home. This was a devastating loss for Dana. Here are some pictures of the house after the fire and the area that used to be Dana's bedroom: There is a GoFundMe page setup to help support Dana's family and their efforts to recover from this tragedy with their most immediate needs. They have not reached the GoFundMe goal yet, so please provide help if you can to a very special Voltron fan and her family at this link: https://www.gofundme.com/support-lewis-and-missy-hall Dana's best friend, Rye, who lives in South Carolina, knew that Dana had lost a lot of personal items with sentimental value, including a lot of art, signed posters and other special items she had bought at various conventions that Rye and Dana attended together over the years. One item, in particular, was a Voltron poster that Dana had signed by many of the voice actors and crew from Voltron Legendary Defender that she had collected at several conventions. Rye, without Dana knowing, had reached out to us on Twitter DM and asked if there was any way to connect with DreamWorks Animation to see if there was a way to get something signed and sent to Dana. We contacted Seth Fowler at DreamWorks PR, letting him know about the fire that destroyed Dana's signed poster, and asked if they could help Rye get something signed for her friend, Dana. It just so happened that THAT very night, the DreamWorks Animation group had planned a cast and crew party to celebrate the final season of Voltron Legendary Defender. Within a week, a signed poster of the combined lithographs of all the Voltron Legendary Defender characters, which was signed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Lauren Montgomery, Josh Keaton, Kimberly Brooks, Neil Kaplan, AJ LoCascio, and more of the cast and crew that were at the party that night, was on its way to Dana's boyfriend's house, where Dana was staying. Rye had given the address to Seth so it would be a surprise to Dana. Here are the pictures Dana shared on Twitter when she received that package: A huge THANK YOU to DreamWorks, the cast and crew of Voltron Legendary Defender, and everyone involved in getting this signed poster to Dana. And of course, this would have never been possible without Rye, who not only initiated the communication to get her best friend something that meant a lot to her, but introduced Dana to Voltron Legendary Defender in the first place. You'll hear all of these stories and more, as Dana and Rye joined us to help review Launch Date, the first episode of Season 8 of Voltron Legendary Defender on Netflix. Dana is on Twitter: @danahall26 Rye is on Twitter: @yauilla Todd Matthy also joined us for this episode review podcast. Todd has been on the podcast previously, as well. Todd had been involved in the MediaBlasters DVD set for Voltron: Defender of the Universe, back in 2006. Todd is on Twitter: @ToddCMatthy Todd is also the creator of Robots vs. Princesses, a full-color comic book series. "Princess Zara wants to find a baby dragon. Instead she finds a giant robot. Together, they must stop a robot army." https://robotsvsprincesses.com/ THE LAST BATTLE IS COMING. Robots vs. Princesses #4 is on sale January 30th from @dynamitecomics so there’s still time to get pre-orders in (and re-orders) in. Please do so, it’ll help increase the visibility of the book. https://www.instagram.com/p/Bsa2agZg8RDfuKGSy_P5pVwwza6UfO2VJXHuHs0/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1ujjbw1bxdomb Here are some of our favorite screenshots from Launch Date, the 1st episode from Season 8 of Voltron Legendary Defender: And here is the Proof from Beast King GoLion that Pidge is descended from Ninjas: As Always, Thanks for Listening! Behind every successful project is a great idea. And yet, many creators who launch on Kickstarter quickly discover that a great idea alone isn't enough to get funded. In this session, Robots vs. Princesses creator Todd Matthy shares lessons learned after an unsuccessful first Kickstarter, and the action steps he's taken to help make his relaunch a success.

Happy 1st Anniversary to Let's Voltron: The Official Voltron Podcast! I am proud to share this review of everything that happened on the Let's Voltron Podcast from this past year, as well as some anniversary greetings that Voltron Fans left us on voicemail. As I went through recording this 35th podcast episode, it became very clear that I have a lot of people to thank for making this past year so special for all the Voltron Fans. So, I have to start by thanking the wonderful people at World Events Productions for carrying the Voltron torch these past 30 years, and for coming on the podcast to share the information that can only come from the home office in St. Louis. So, a very special thank you to Ted Koplar, Bob Koplar and Tiffany Ilardi. Extra thanks to Bob Koplar for helping me walk through all these podcast episodes. I really want to thank Jeremy Corray for helping get this podcast started in December 2013, and for his continued support as a resource and occasional co-host. I want to thank Michael French for making many episodes special with his expert commentary and for carrying the Blazing Sword as a great co-host. I have to thank Dan Jolley for being a great fan-favorite guest and a super co-host when we review the original Voltron episodes. Big thank you to Gregory Tyler for being a great Voltron Fan and for bringing a comprehensive look at Vehicle Team Voltron to the listeners of the podcast. The rest of the people on this list have all been terrific contributors to the podcast and were all important to the success of the 1st year of Let's Voltron. Here they are, in no particular order: Mark Oliver, Tommy Yune, George Sohn, Seth Green, Clare Grant, Brian “Smitty” Smith, Lucas Morrell, Marc Handler, Franklin Cofod, John Teichmann, Casey Snider, Chee-toy, Talley LaFlamme, Moira, Brandon Thomas, Cubbieberry, Rileah Vanderbilt, Chris Wofford, Neil Ross, Josh McKillips, N. Thank you all for making 2014 the best year ever for me and here's hoping that 2015 has the ability to top it! Thanks for listening! See you all in 2015!
