The Warriors 1979 Review is finally here, and this week on Born to Watch, Whitey, Gow and Damo are heading deep into enemy territory for a movie they've been circling since the early days of the podcast. Walter Hill's 1979 cult classic has leather vests, painted faces, subway trains, some of the strangest gangs ever assembled and one very simple objective: get back to Coney Island alive. The Movie Review Podcast, where we don't take the movies or ourselves too seriously, is about to find out if The Warriors can still come out to play. For the boys, this isn't just another movie review. The Warriors carries some serious childhood baggage. This was one of those movies you heard about before you actually saw it. The video shop cover caught your eye; older kids talked about it, and somehow the movie's reputation became almost as important as the movie itself. Whitey remembers hammering it during his teenage years, while Damo recalls hiring it on VHS and watching the bloody thing twice back-to-back.That's the sort of nostalgia we're dealing with here. The setup remains magnificent.Cyrus has a dream. Get every gang in New York together, stop fighting each other and realise they collectively outnumber the cops.CAN YOU DIG IT?Unfortunately, Luther can't.Cyrus goes down, The Warriors get blamed, and suddenly a crew from Coney Island is stranded in the Bronx with every gang in New York looking to collect. What follows is essentially one long journey home through a New York City that feels like it exists in another universe.Whitey, Gow and Damo get stuck into Walter Hill's world-building and the collection of gangs roaming the streets. The Turnbull ACs look genuinely terrifying. The Lizzies have guns but apparently attended the Imperial Stormtrooper Marksmanship Academy. The Orphans desperately want someone to take them seriously. And then there are the Baseball Furies.Baseball uniforms. Painted faces. Baseball bats.It shouldn't work.It absolutely works. The boys also give plenty of love to Barry De Vorzon's brilliant score. From the opening moments, that pulsing soundtrack drags you straight into The Warriors' version of New York, and the music accompanying the Baseball Furies chase remains an absolute belter. Then there's the cast.Michael Beck brings the brooding as Swan, while James Remar is perfectly unhinged as Ajax, a bloke who seems about five seconds away from causing a problem in every scene he enters. But David Patrick Kelly's Luther may own the movie.Three bottles on his fingers."Warriors... come out to play-ay."An improvised moment that became one of the most recognisable scenes in cult movie history.Of course, nostalgia only gets you so far on Born to Watch. The boys ask whether a film with such a notorious reputation is actually violent enough. They question the shooting ability of the Lizzies, the sheer amount of running required while wearing a leather vest with no shirt, and whether the final confrontation delivers the payoff the movie has been building towards. There's also plenty of Walter Hill appreciation, including his incredible run through movies like Southern Comfort, 48 Hrs., Streets of Fire, Red Heat and Last Man Standing.Where does The Warriors land? You'll have to listen. After more than four years and 226 episodes, the F-Wits have finally made it back to Coney Island.Grab your vest, paint your face, jump on the subway and come along for the ride.WARRIORS... COME OUT TO PLAY-AY!JOIN THE BORN TO WATCH CREWLove the show? Preacher: Caleb Maskell Jonah 1:7 - 2:4 Then the sailors said to each other, "Come, let us cast lots to find out who is responsible for this calamity." They cast lots and the lot fell on Jonah. So they asked him, "Tell us, who is responsible for making all this trouble for us? What kind of work do you do? Where do you come from? What is your country? From what people are you?" He answered, "I am a Hebrew and I worship the LORD, the God of heaven, who made the sea and the dry land. " This terrified them and they asked, "What have you done?" (They knew he was running away from the LORD, because he had already told them so.) The sea was getting rougher and rougher. So they asked him, "What should we do to you to make the sea calm down for us?" "Pick me up and throw me into the sea," he replied, "and it will become calm. I know that it is my fault that this great storm has come upon you." Instead, the men did their best to row back to land. But they could not, for the sea grew even wilder than before. Then they cried out to the LORD, "Please, LORD, do not let us die for taking this man's life. Do not hold us accountable for killing an innocent man, for you, LORD, have done as you pleased." Then they took Jonah and threw him overboard, and the raging sea grew calm. At this the men greatly feared the LORD, and they offered a sacrifice to the LORD and made vows to him. Jonah's Prayer Now the LORD provided a huge fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the LORD his God. He said: "In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me. From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help, and you listened to my cry. You hurled me into the depths, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me. I said, 'I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple.'
We can't bring you an England World Cup Final in 2026 - much to our regret - but we CAN bring you a trip down memory lane with the greatest goal-scorer of our victory 60 years ago in 1966: because our guest today is Sir Geoff Hurst. In this conversation, Sir Geoff tells Gyles about his childhood, when football and cricket competed for his affections, and his footballing father encouraged his love of the game. He talks about his apprenticeship at West Ham under Ron Greenwood, who spotted his attacking ability and encouraged him to play as a centre-forward. He talks about meeting and playing alongside Bobby Moore as a teenager, and looking up to the natural leadership of the future England captain. He talks about being selected to play for England - by letter - and the culture in the team. He talks about meeting and marrying his wife, and the loss of their daughter, Claire, who died of a brain tumour at only 45.This is an unusually revealing conversation with one of the greats of the game and a fascinating reflection on the changing nature of football over the past 60 years.Sir Geoff Hurst is touring the UK with his "Last Man Standing" theatre show this autumn. Tickets are available here. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

The Bible never presents the Christian life as a casual walk through friendly territory; it presents it as a fight, a race, a warfare and a watch. The tragedy is that many men begin with fire in their bones, a Bible in their hand, and a burden in their heart, only to quit somewhere along the way when the wounds, disappointments, temptations and weariness begin to pile up. Some are taken out by sin, some by bitterness, some by pride, some by the love of this present world, and some simply grow tired of standing alone. But Paul's testimony at the end of his life was not that he had enjoyed an easy road, but that he had stayed in the battle: “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:” That is the cry of the faithful soldier, it is yours today, Christian?"Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier." 2 Timothy 2:3,4 (KJB) The question “Who will be the last man standing?” is a searching question for every saved believer here in the closing hours of the Church Age. Will you still be faithful when others walk away? Will you still preach the Book when compromise is easier? Will you still get back up when you fall? Will you still be watching, working and waiting when the Lord Jesus Christ comes for His church? The last man standing will not be the strongest man, the loudest man, or the most gifted man; he will be the faithful man, held up by the Lord, anchored in the Book, washed in the blood, and looking for that blessed hope. The Bible says, “Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.” In a day when so many are quitting by inches, cooling off by degrees, and trading conviction for comfort, may God help us to stay in the fight, rise when we fall, and be found standing at our post when the trumpet sounds!! On this Sunday Service, we ask who will be the last man standing? TO THE FIGHT!!!

Six straight years. Roughly 6,000 miles of one of the hardest point-to-point ultras in the country. In this episode, Kevin Goldberg sits down with Andy Glaze, Jeff Garmire, Aaron Fleisher, and Jose Sosa — the only four athletes to finish every single Cocodona 250 since its 2021 debut. What started as a one-off pandemic-era adventure (Aaron even emailed the race directors to say he'd never be back) somehow became an annual ritual none of them saw coming. The guys talk through how the race hooked them, why it never actually gets easier, and the community that keeps pulling them back to the start line each May.There's also a healthy dose of competition and chaos: back-of-the-napkin math on how many hours they've each logged on course (the guesses are scarily accurate), predictions for when the streak finally breaks and who'll be the last one standing, theories on how each man's run will eventually end — from injury to flight delays to one very specific basketball-related exit — and the origin of Andy's parallel 100-mile-week streak that may be even harder to kill than the Cocodona one.Equal parts tribute, roast, and group therapy for people who can't stop signing up. This week Nicola and Di chat with the legendary Steven Bradbury. All of our Australian listeners, and many of our international listeners as well, will remember the epic moment in 2002 when Steven became the first Australian ever to win a Gold medal at the Winter Olympics. It was such a memorable race as Steven came from behind to win the final, and in doing so, created the term ‘Doing a Bradbury’, which was added to the Macquarie Dictionary in 2014. However, there’s so much more to Steven’s story than that one moment, and we were so grateful to be able to hear more about his journey of strength, passion and resilience. In this episode, we chat to Steven about his speed skating career and some of the most heart-stopping moments, including 2 specific crashes where he almost lost his life. It’s incredible to hear Steven talk about the incident in Montreal where he lost ¾ of his blood in 1 minute, and his next significant injury, 18 months out from his final Olympics, when he broke his neck in training. The sheer determination and resilience that Steven showed to keep going and pursue Gold is incredibly inspiring. We also walk through that famous final and unbelievable moment with Steven. What was happening in the lead-up to the race, the strategy that he and his coach decided on, and what it felt like to watch everyone fall over in front of him, win Gold, but have the entire crowd booing because the local favourite had gone down in the fall. We chat about Steven’s new career as a motivational speaker and entrepreneur, the incredible work ethic he has, the way he’s fuelled by adrenaline and the brewery he started, with the best name ever, Last Man Standing. Steven has some great tips on finding your passion, working really hard at it, and not giving up too early. We really loved having Steven in the studio with us, hearing his story and sharing some laughs. We’re not the only ones who think his story is incredible, it turns out a film is going to be made about his life, which we also chat about in this episode. We hope you love it as much as we did. Part 3 with world champion fighter Chad Collins — and it's the rawest one yet. Chad walks through his 15-fight winning streak, the WBC world title defence where he split his shin open, and the four-week turnaround for the brutal Petch Panomarung fight in Japan where he won with blood and piss pouring out of his leg. Then the high comes crashing down. Chad gets honest about Miguel Trinidad — the Portuguese striker who idolised him, told him at the weigh-in "I'm gonna beat you bad," and then put Chad down for the first time in his career. He talks through the head-game spiral afterwards, the comeback win in Japan, the 8-man Glory vs Rise tournament, and the rematch with Trinidad that didn't go his way either. Plus the "purple patch / black patch" philosophy from his old man, and why Chad reckons the tide is turning ahead of his next fight on 2 November — round 3 of the 24-man Last Man Standing tournament against Yura. ⚠️ Explicit content.

Click Here to ask your book writing and publishing questions! If you've ever thought "I could write a book about this" while watching a reality TV show at 10pm, you're going to love this episode! Amy Mass spent years writing for TV (you might recognize "The Goldbergs" and "Last Man Standing" from her credits), and after relocating from LA to a charming small town outside Atlanta during COVID, she channeled all of that storytelling experience into her debut novel, Reality Bites, out May 12, 2026 from Harper Perennial. In this episode, Amy and I talk about what it actually looked like to make the leap from TV writer to novelist, including writing three books and two movies in four years, going out on submission, shelving her first manuscript, and finally landing a deal with a major publishing house. We also get into her writing process (she's both a pantser and a plotter), why she writes dialogue first, and how she keeps a running collection of joke scraps and character notes scattered across her phone, her laptop, and random Post-its around the house. We also talk about what it was like getting notes from her agent and her editor, and how to push back on notes without being precious about it. Her phrase "find the note behind the note" is one to hold onto! And then we get into the part that surprises most authors: how much marketing is still on you. In this heated and deeply personal episode of Bros Bibles & Beer, Andy McCraw, Zack Krater, and "professional Christian" guest Carey Robinson deconstruct the modern evangelical obsession with defending the modern State of Israel at all costs. The crew kicks things off with a high-stakes game of "Rapture, Barely Even Know Her" forcing the hosts to choose between being a "Beamer" (pre-tribulation escapee) or "Last Man Standing" (tribulation survivor). The conversation turns provocative as they challenge the "ironclad truth" of Dispensationalism—a 19th-century theological framework they argue has been used to manipulate the American church into blind support for the modern State of Israel. From Netanyahu and Epstein files to the "uniparty" and toxic empathy, no cultural third rail is left untouched. Are we following the Prince of Peace or just political operatives in pulpits?
