That Wellness Podcast with Natalie Deering: Internal Family Systems with a Twist
What if your sensitivity was never the problem? In this podcast episode I sit down with Dr. Steve Chee to explore sensitivity, intuition, Internal Family Systems, and what becomes possible when we stop pathologizing the parts of ourselves we've been taught are “too much.” Together, we unpack the experience of being a highly sensitive person and the power of finally naming it. Dr. Steve shares insights on how sensitivity often develops within the relational field—how we learn to sense, adapt, perform, protect, and belong in response to the emotional environments around us. We explore the important distinction between sensitivity and intuition, and how many people bury the gift of sensitivity because of family systems, cultural beliefs, or experiences of being misunderstood. In this episode, we discuss: - What it means to be a highly sensitive person—and the relief of naming it - Sensitivity and the relational field - The difference between sensitivity and intuition - How family and cultural messages can bury sensitivity as a gift - Feeling like you are “too much” for others - Masking, performing, and adapting to belong - Protective parts that temper emotion (including my own “Ice Queen” part) - The gifts hidden beneath burdens and survival strategies - What happens when your “too muchness” isn't actually too much - Field awareness and relational sensitivity - Dr. Steve's upcoming book, The Field-Aware Soul Dr. Steve offers such a compassionate and paradigm-shifting perspective for sensitives, mystics, helpers, and anyone whose gifts bent toward survival before they had the chance to fully emerge. This conversation is an invitation to wonder: What if your sensitivity isn't something to fix—but something to understand, honor, and reclaim? About Dr. Steve Chee Dr. Steve Chee is an Integrative East–West Physician and Certified IFS Therapist, most recently the creator of the IFS Institute's Continuity Program, The Sacred Nervous System, and originator of The Field-Aware Soul Ecology—a relational framework for people whose sensitivity arrived early and became recruited into caretaking, performing, and belonging at a cost. His work centers around a powerful question: What if field sensitivity isn't a wound to heal, but a relational capacity waiting to be met? He works with sensitives, mystics, and those who were told they were “too much”—helping people reclaim gifts that once bent toward survival and transform them into deeper connection, authenticity, and belonging. A famously cringe-worthy Saskatoon TV ad gets its full backstory in How Chee!, a one-hour documentary by Saskatchewan storyteller Craig Silliphant, screening this Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at The Broadway Theatre. Filmmaker Craig Silliphant joins Evan to talk about How Chee!
Growing up in Swift Current, I never saw the infamous Great Buffet of China television ad that aired all the time from 1996 to 1998, but Craig Silliphant and Don Sparrow sure did. They remember seeing it in the mornings before university, at supper during the news, and into the wee hours of the night. The story of how this advertisement came to be, the impact it had on those involved in the production of the advertisement, and why it became a viral hit in China, are all touched on in Craig's new documentary film, 'How Chee.' The film debuts at the Broadway Theatre on Thursday, April 2nd, at 7pm, but Craig was kind enough of take time out of his busy schedule to join me at the Yard and Flagon Pub to give YXE Underground listeners a preview of the documentary and why he wanted to tell this story. Saskatoon artist Don Sparrow, who designed the documentary's poster, joined us at the Yard and Flagon to share his memories of the advertisement and why it is such a memorable piece of nostalgia for so many people in Saskatoon. I am lucky to call Craig and Don my friends. They are both gifted storytellers and two of the most creative people I know. They also recognize how lucky we are in Saskatoon to have such a passionate community of creative people who support each-other in their artistic endeavours. It was a blast speaking with them and learning about this truly unique slice of Saskatoon pop culture. You can visit the Broadway Theatre website to get your tickets for Thursday night's screening, which includes a special Q&A after the film featuring Craig and several of the characters in the film. Thank you for listening and hope to see you Thursday night. Congrats on the film, Craig! Chee Kin Lam, Head of Legal and Compliance at DBS Bank — one of the world's first major banks to receive a digital payment token license from the Monetary Authority of Singapore — joins Ari on this episode of TRM Talks.Chee Kin shares a career spanning 30-plus years across JP Morgan, Standard Chartered, and DBS Bank, and what he learned along the way about people, culture, and getting things done across continents. He walks through DBS Bank's digital-first roots dating back to 2013–2014, how the bank thinks about blockchain as both an emerging asset class and the future of financial infrastructure, and how his own thinking on crypto risk evolved from early conversations about "poison tokens" and coin purity to today's more mature, technology-augmented risk management landscape. The conversation covers the growing scams and fraud epidemic — including the critical shift from unauthorized to authorized scams that exploit human psychology — and why Chee Kin believes every stakeholder in the digital economy, from telcos to social media platforms to device manufacturers, shares a corresponding duty to protect it. He also shares how DBS Bank is deploying generative AI to write suspicious transaction reports at scale, why framing AI as an employee value proposition matters, and what it means in practice to be an "AI-enabled bank with a heart."Plus: balut in the Philippines, life-changing homemade adobo, fast cars, computer games, and a compliance lawyer who would have been a rock star in another life.

Naarm's own Babycino steps up next mixing dubwise rollers and summery house digs. A budding DJ, producer and open-air dance specialist, his Reasons To Be Cheerful parties and Skylab shows blend classy jams with playful flair, meaning 100% good times for the groove inclined! @babycinoofficial Q. What sounds or feelings did you draw upon when gathering inspiration for this mix, and what listening environments could you imagine it being best enjoyed? I wanted to try to keep it nice and hypnotic in parts, mostly through the first hour or so. So there's some dub tinged house, deeper house cuts and then into some kind of psychedelic, percussive funk jams. All roads lead back to House music though, in some form or another. If I can lock in, lose my train of thought and kind of forget where I am for a little bit while listening to a mix or music. That's the best. Almost like entering another realm. That being said, I do like flourishes of chaos being injected as well, so hopefully there are some well placed disruptions and switch ups. For the listening environment. Perhaps a long car journey, or a long walk/ jog through a changing landscape Q. Are there any records in the mix that you were especially excited to share, and what is it about these songs that resonate with you so much? A. There are a few favourites in the mix but I have to say that the closing track, the Janeret remix of Flash And The Pan's Walking in the Rain, is on heavy rotation at the moment. I absolutely love the original, it's so moody and ethereal while also being raw and kinda edgy. This particular remix reworks it for a dancefloor, while keeping that vibe sooooo well. Q. Your Reasons To Be Cheerful parties have become a much-loved part of the annual party calendar, featuring a smorgasbord of house and disco legends the likes of Jex Opolis, DJ Lloyd and Chee Shimizu to name a few! Tell us about your plans for the party going forward, and what you've most enjoyed about the experience thus far? A. Aw, bless! Thank you so much! Going forward, I just want to work on maintaining a consistent quality with the curation and to ensure it's a free and open space, musically and spiritually. Quite simply, I really want to focus on improving with each event, adding more visual art elements/installations, not to reinvent the wheel but just to add my own personal weirdness to the space. Things I've enjoyed so far.. I'd say meeting people and inviting artists who I really respect, whether it's an OG like Chee or connecting with some of the local peeps that I deeply admire. A specific top experience so far is going b2b with Chee Shimizu at Angel. He really is one of the best! Chee and Weatherall are the guiding stars for me, so it was such an honour to go beat for beat with a master!

Federal fisheries regulators approved some limits on Western Alaska chum bycatch in the Bering Sea last week. The highly debated – and long awaited – decision aims to protect declining salmon stocks, a crucial food resource for Alaska tribes. The Alaska Desk’s Alena Naiden from our flagship station KNBA has this story. The North Pacific Fishery Management Council voted to set a Western Alaska chum bycatch limit in the Bering Sea pollock fishery. The council said the move will balance protections for Western Alaska salmon returns, while also allowing pollock fisheries to continue their harvest. Council member Nicole Kimball voted for the motion. She says it addresses those needs and reflects best available Western and Indigenous science. “I think it’s going to change behavior. I think it’s going to reduce Western Alaska chum bycatch … I’m sure, as per usual, nobody is very happy, but all of the discussions have really helped … inform the outcome.” The trawl fishery in the Bering Sea near the Aleutian Islands is focused on pollock, but boats also scoop up other types of fish. That includes chum salmon, some of which migrates to Western and Interior Alaska rivers and is a crucial subsistence resource there. But chum runs have been declining, leading to repeated fishing closures in some communities. Alaska Native Council member John Moller, originally from Unalaska, is a commercial fisherman. He says he is fortunate to put fish up each year and feels for those who cannot. “I know how important that is to me, how important that is to my family, and passing that on to my children – I get that. And my heart is ripped out, speaking with all of you that are living on the rivers right now that don’t have that same ability that I have living in Southeast.” The council voted to support a motion that sets a limit to Western Alaska chum bycatch. Exceeding that limit would trigger a partial closure. Rachel Baker is the Deputy Commissioner at Alaska Department of Fish and Game. She presented the motion. Several members who voted against the motion said it is not likely to provide a meaningful improvement for salmon returns, but Baker argued. “We’re at this table used to thinking about large volumes of fish, in tons … we heard in testimony that four fish were able to provide the needs for a potlatch.” The plan goes to the National Marine Fisheries Service next before it can be implemented. (Courtesy AMC) This weekend saw the recent premiere of Season 4 of AMC's award-winning detective drama, “Dark Winds” which takes place in 1970s Navajo Country. As Brian Bull reports, tension and resentment threaten the romantic relationship between two main characters. After Bernadette Manuelito quits the U.S. Border Patrol and returns to the Navajo Tribal Police Department, it looks like a carefree and intimate rekindling of her romance with fellow officer, Jim Chee. But Lt. Joe Leaphorn shares a life decision with Manuelito that will shake up the force, a secret which Chee inevitably learns. Feeling affronted and mistrusted, a schism occurs between the couple. Actors Kiowa Gordon and Jessica Matten talk about bringing this conflict to their characters. “Leaphorn's coming from a place of understanding the matriarchy system, and in order to protect this relationship dynamic, she doesn't feel like she's lying to Chee, she feels like she's actually protecting him from what he doesn't need to know. Y'know she's dealing with a lot of the PTSD of her just killing a man in season 3, and sometimes you just don't want to tell the truth right away because you might actually spiritually just drown, because it’s too much.” “And he is dealing with his own demons that he's been pushing away but now they've come to collect. And having to deal with that and trying to maintain your professionalism when you're working with the love of your life at the same time, and so there's a lot of dynamics being played out.” (Courtesy AMC) Meanwhile, an investigation takes the pair and Leaphorn to Los Angeles. Gordon and Matten say much of the filming still happened in New Mexico, parts of which resembled L.A. more than 50 years ago. New episodes of “Dark Winds” air Sunday nights on AMC and a fifth season has already been greenlit. The premiere episode of “Dark Winds” season 4 ended with a tribute to executive producer Robert Redford, who passed away last September. In this episode of Talking Sleep, host Dr. Seema Khosla welcomes three members of the World Sleep Society's consumer health technology task force—Dr. Michael Chee, Professor and Director of the Center for Sleep and Cognition at the National University of Singapore who chaired the guideline-writing task force; Dr. Mathias Baumert, an associate professor leading the biomedical engineering discipline of the school of Electrical and Mechanical engineering at Adelaide University in Australia, and Dr. Cathy Goldstein, professor of neurology at the University of Michigan. to discuss their global recommendations for the use of consumer sleep technology and wearable health trackers. Consumer wearables have become ubiquitous in clinical practice, with patients routinely sharing device data. While some clinicians have historically dismissed this information, attitudes are shifting as technology improves and rigorous research examines sensors, algorithms, and data quality. Dr. Chee explains that the recommendations are designed for multiple audiences: end-users, clinicians, researchers, and manufacturers, with specific guidance for each group. The conversation addresses practical considerations: the assumption that users have good perfusion, how bed partners can influence movement detection, and the fundamental truth that the best device is one patients will actually wear properly. The panel discusses recent FDA regulatory changes and clarifies whether guidance applies only to non-FDA cleared wellness devices or has broader implications. The experts systematically review various metrics from wearables. They introduce TATS (total attempted time in sleep) and explain what clinicians should know about sleep onset and offset detection. The episode emphasizes the call for standardized Fundamental Sleep Measures and greater transparency about test populations used in device validation. Dr. Baumert discusses the need to co-create benchmarks for measurement accuracy across different contexts—from persons with normal sleep to shift workers to those with sleep disorders. Whether you're skeptical about consumer wearables or seeking guidance on interpreting patient-generated data, this episode provides evidence-based recommendations for moving forward responsibly. Join us for this important discussion about embracing consumer sleep technology while maintaining clinical rigor.

The firm provides expert consulting services in the electricity sector across Canada and the United States. A new report from CanREA and Dunsky forecasts a rapid build-out of new electricity generation across the country. With this growth forecast in mind, Jason shares his insights on several major new electricity generation projects shaping Canada's power landscape — including the planned hydropower dam expansion along the Churchill River by Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador. Jason, Jackie, and Peter also discussed the proposed Wind West project in Nova Scotia, where the province estimates its offshore wind potential could exceed 60 GW of capacity, with up to 40 GW of dependable output. In addition, Jason provides an update on Alberta's ongoing electricity market redesign — the Alberta Restructured Energy Market (REM) — following the release of the Final Design document from the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) in August. Marco flirts with everyone at school and meets a totally unremarkable boy named David. Should T'shrondra be our new Animorph instead of David? Will Erek King only show up for mission briefs from now on or will we eventually get another Chee book? Has Rachel not learned anything about bursting through windows after her close call in Book 16? In today's episode, I talk with Dr. Steve Chee, an integrative East-West physician and certified IFS therapist. Steve is offering an IFS continuity program through the IFS Institute this fall called "The Sacred Nervous System," which brings together neuroscience, mysticism, and relational medicine to help people who have been told they are "too much" or "too sensitive". In our conversation Steve shares his personal story of being a sensitive child who felt he had to hide what he loved, and the journey of finding relational safety to heal this dynamic. We discuss the importance of love as the source of healing, and how therapeutic models and theories are simply tools to help us get there. Key takeaways: The connection between our nervous system and protective parts How a relational safety is needed for healing and for parts to come forward The difference between "co-regulation" and "co-revelation" and the role of love in healing Why the therapeutic relationship, not the model, is what truly heals The importance of explicitly naming love and reclaiming the sacredness of every individual Episode Sponsor: IFS Institute This fall, join IFS thought leader Dr. Steve Chee for a powerful journey into The Sacred Nervous System in the IFS Continuity program through the IFS Institute. Undulating waves of crystalline fragrance burst from Floret Loret's sonic greenhouse. The multi-sensory experience of Fernando Loret de Mola's catalog is a tribute to his careful cultivation of a sound that bathes in natural beauty but also pulls from a dark, industrial cityscape. Carving his niche amongst a rising generation of experimental bass producers, Loret de Mola sets himself apart by introducing lush, hypnotic melodies into a scene so often dominated by singed and smoking sound design. Floret Loret dares to let his delicate compositions bloom amongst the jarring forays into brooding low end, and the result is an unpredictable and often heterodox bouquet of swirling colors and textures. Cross-pollinating sound design die-hards and melodic bass acolytes seeded a rabid fan base that brought his music to the attention of Deadbeats, which released his 2019 EP, Secluded Garden. Label heads Zeds Dead then tapped Floret Loret for the collab “Reason” from their We Are Deadbeats Vol. 4 compilation, an elegant arrangement of glistening themes that dance and twirl between shimmering rays of light and ponderous darkness. It's been a prolific run for Loret de Mola, who has released singles on Quality Goods Records and Electric Hawk, EPs on mau5trap and Bassrush, collaborated with progressive contemporaries Siska, Silva, Low Poly, and CAPSHUN (the latter of which was handpicked by CloZee for her Gravitas comp), and landed coveted festival slots at Okeechobee and EDC. Sprouting from a bleak live show landscape, Loret de Mola landed high-profile dates with Minnesota, Chee, and a featured role at Infrasound Music Festival and Shambhala. Tastemakers forging the next frontier in the left-field electronic space are flocking to Floret Loret's field to bask in his creations. To learn more visit: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1SOahWJen3CxHs0e9eCmFe?si=a__4bwsHRDC2srR2PWOspw
Welcome to episode #993 of Six Pixels of Separation - The ThinkersOne Podcast. Angela Chee is a keynote speaker, media and communication coach, and author of The Power Of the Only – Own Your Voice, Thrive in Any Environment, a book that challenges us to rethink the spaces we occupy and the voices we often silence… especially our own. In this conversation, Angela explores what it means to truly “own your voice” in an era defined by visibility and vulnerability, noise and nuance. Angela speaks candidly about how being the “only” in the room (whether because of race, gender, background, or perspective) is not a disadvantage but a profound source of power and insight. We discuss the emotional tension of the spotlight effect, where the desire to be seen and the fear of judgment collide, and how discernment (not just visibility) becomes the essential skill for modern communication. Angela opens up about the importance of balancing authenticity with intention, and why the journey of discovering your voice is never really over. It's a practice, a reclaiming and a reshaping of self in response to a constantly shifting cultural landscape. We touch on the rise of AI, the tension of audience capture, the commodification of personality, and the difference between performance and presence. Angela's perspective is grounded in clarity and connection, and she brings both wisdom and structure to the chaos of today's media environment. Her Five Principles of The Power of the Only are not just a framework for communication, they're a roadmap for identity and leadership in uncertain times. This conversation is for anyone feeling overwhelmed by the demand to “show up” in public, who wonders if they're saying too much or not enough, or who is searching for the courage to take up space without apology. If you've ever felt like an outsider at work, in life, or even in your own skin, this episode reminds us that our difference isn't something to overcome. It's the very thing that makes us whole. Ohno Type Company is an industry rebel. Equal parts punk and precision, the studio is a direct reflection of founder James' Edmondson love of expression and eccentricity. From globular California hippie text (Chee) to deceptively complex takes on classic geometric forms (Polymath), James and his team chart their own course through the wilds of type design. In this interview from 2021, James discusses his story, process, and mindset with Monotype's Charles Nix, and shares his thoughts on building a stable, rewarding creative career. James has a new book publishing this fall, The Ohno Book: A Serious Guide to Irreverent Type Design. Preorder today at Bookshop.org. It can feel isolating, but it doesn't have to hold you back. In fact, it can actually be your superpower. She speaks from her many years of experience as a TV news anchor, where she was often the only Asian American and the only woman in the room. Angela and Jessi discuss: • How to identify external and internal barriers, and how to break through the internal ones • The importance of personal development in owning your voice • Why some environments aren't worth your time, and when to walk away • How to thrive when you're the only one at the table Continue the conversation with us at Hello Monday Office Hours!
