Former Congressman Peter Roskam, who leads BakerHostetler's Federal Policy team, provides listeners with a front-row seat to the most important policy and political debates in Congress. In this episode of “The Cloakroom with Peter Roskam,” Peter is joined at the 37th Annual Legislative Seminar in Washington D.C., by his BakerHostetler colleague, former Congressman Heath Shuler. Also joining is Congressman Mike Carey, a Republican from Ohio. He was first elected to the House in 2021, representing a central Ohio district that includes Columbus. He is a member of the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee and the House Administration Committee. Before his election to Congress, Carey was an energy company executive and also served in the Army National Guard.Questions & Comments: proskam@bakerlaw.com

In part two of Red Eye Radio with Gary McNamara and Eric Harley, the left continues to favor Sharia law in support of Iran despite President Trump's plan to inialate the evil regime. Also the Supreme Court on Thursday rejected a self-described "progressive" candidate's bid to enter Ohio's Republican primary, leaving in place a decision by state election officials to disqualify him for misrepresenting his party affiliation. Samuel Ronan, a former Democratic state and national candidate, attempted to run as a Republican in Ohio's 15th Congressional District against GOP incumbent Rep. Mike Carey. To do so, he signed a declaration of candidacy — under penalty of election falsification — swearing he was a member of the Republican Party. And NATO's chief signaled Thursday that European allies may move to help secure the Strait of Hormuz following talks with President Trump — even as the White House declared the alliance had already "failed" and was not being asked to assist. Secretary-General Mark Rutte, speaking at The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute in Washington a day after meeting Trump at the White House, pointed to a potential coalition effort among allied nations to keep the critical waterway open. Several former members of the Salt Lake County Republican Party say they are now filing a lawsuit in response to their removal. They say the discipline they received from party leadership was direct retaliation for complaints they lodged against the party. In this Deep Dive, guest host Heather Peterson gets a breakdown of the situation from Inside Sources co-host Dr. Holly Richardson, who says it's a nuanced problem, but one she finds interesting because of the discipline involved. Two of the members disciplined in the process (Kaye Sanderson and Tracie Halvorsen) also speak out, sharing their reaction to the situation. Finally, county party chair Mike Carey joins Heather Peterson and Midday Executive Producer Andy Cupp to share more insights into the disciplinary process and why several members of the party faced that same discipline.

Recorded live from the floor of New York Comic Con, this episode of The Comic Source features Jace in conversation with artist and co-creator Pablo Raimondi about his work on Ghost Box, the acclaimed ComiXology Originals series written by Mike Carey. Raimondi explains how the story centers on an ancient artifact capable of capturing the souls of the dead, allowing ghosts from across time to inhabit its current owner—offering him the chance to design a wildly diverse and visually stunning world. He discusses collaborating with colorist José Villarubia to create the book's spectral atmosphere and the balance between its sweeping fantasy elements and its deeply human core focused on family and emotion. With the Mad Cave print edition arriving November 18 — including an exclusive ten-page epilogue — Raimondi encourages listeners to experience what he calls some of Carey's best fantasy writing paired with his own most varied and expressive artwork yet.
Fifteen years ago, actor Thomas Jane and David James Kelly co-wrote the script for “The Lycan.” Different attempts to bring it to life fell by the wayside, but the time has come and the first issue is now available through Comixology. Here's a look at the story: The story takes place in 1777. After a successful expedition in Africa, a hardened band of international big game hunters set out to return home with their bounty when their voyage takes a turn and the men are shipwrecked off a small British island. Under the tutelage of Absalom Coffin, the men make a deal with Lord Ludgate, ruler of the island. In exchange for fresh supplies and the repair of their good ship The Calydonian, the men are assigned a task they are particularly well suited for: find the Berserking Beasts that have been eating his subjects, including a group of young Benedictine Nuns, and destroy them. But the men encounter more sinister and dangerous beasts than anyone expected. In this interview, Thomas gives us the history behind “The Lycan” and how we've come to issue #1. He talks about working with write Mike Carey and artist Diego Yapur and the amazing talent they brought to the project. He gives a glimpse of what's to come over this six-issue series. We take a look at some of the characters, including Absalom and Sister Trent and what inspired them. Thomas also gives his take on the look of the comic and how he got into comics in his youth.

They couldn't let go. Thomas Jane and Mike Carey resurrect The Lycan, a comics project languishing for over fifteen years. Jane and screenwriter David James Kelly initiated the concept and hired Carey to write the script. An artist was also hired. That artist disappeared. An opportunity arose years later, and a new artist, Diego Yapur, finally materialized this ruthless tale of adventure and horror. The North Sea. 1797. A ship shatters on the shore of a Scottish isle. The hunters within spill upon the sand, encountering a Red Coat regiment and a Convent-turned-Fortress. The three factions mistrust each other but must find unity if they're to defend themselves from a hirsute plague. The Lycan recalls the gnarliest stories in the best comic book anthologies: Twisted Tales, Creepy, Vault of Horror, etc. Yet, it's given the space that writers like Bruce Jones were never afforded. Thomas Jane and Mike Carey are confident storytellers who've spent a lifetime consuming this beautiful medium and know they can let the title and the many engaging characters below it do the work. The beast is coming, but in The Lycan #1, the horror explored is utterly, painfully human. With the French Revolution on the horizon, paranoia grips everyone, and the faith carried by pirates, soldiers, and nuns is challenged and found fractured. How can they possibly fight their doggie dinner destiny? The Lycan allows our podcast conversation with Thomas Jane and Mike Carey to travel into various caves and crannies. We dig into their passion for the comic book medium and how it differs from movies (The Punisher) and novels (The Girl With All The Gifts). We discuss the comic's complicated origin and the challenge of collaboration, as well as the powerful, relatable themes at this book's center. Fear, paranoia, and faith - who needs a werewolf to do you in? The Lycan #1 is now available on ComiXology but will eventually see physical release through Ablaze. Send us a textMarty and Holly speak for a second time with Mike Carey in the first installment on our new topic: The Multiverse. Mike has written comics for many big titles in both the DC and Marvel universes, and has also written 19 books including his most recent 'The Pandominion' duology which is comprised of 'Infinity Gate' and 'Echo of Worlds'. The idea of parallel universes arises from an interpretations of quantum mechanics which posits that the wavefunction never actually collapses, just branches into new, independent universes for every possible outcome. It's a mind-boggling idea offering rich and unique narrative possibilities for science fiction. We discuss some of the ideas which support the existence of the Multiverse, dark matter, the evolutionary history of alternate worlds, colonialism and slavery, sentience and necropolitics.Buzzsprout (podcast host):https://thescienceinthefiction.buzzsprout.comEmail: thescienceinthefiction@gmail.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/743522660965257/Twitter:https://twitter.com/MartyK5463
