We will discuss communicating with children in the general x-ray setting and provide some tips around environment set up and rapport building to assist with performing the imaging examination. We are joined by Steve Lacey, a tutor radiographer, and Trent Wilkie, a clinical educator and radiographer. They have both been working in the Medical Imaging Department at the Royal Children's Hospital for 12 years.
Starting our October horror month, we chat with our buddy horror fan, writer, comedian, Trent Wilkie. This week we focus on Haunted House flicks about people stuck inside their homes. Both films, "Housebound" and "I am a Ghost" break conventional tropes and traditions of the old Haunted House genres and look into how they stand up from their peers.
Trent Wilkie (ReGretzky Entertainment) is back to help dissect what makes a great action fight scene. We set out twenty movies with fight scenes hoping to get one that will demonstrate importance and power of a confidence and controlled fight sequence. Don't forget to check out this month's Featured Artist Of The Month AARYS and her single "Bad Habit"
Every October, we engage in the tradition of watching 31 Horror films in 31 days, leading up to Halloween. This year, Mr. Trent Wilkie has joined us for one of those 31 horror films. Make sure to check out and let us know what you think of our artist of the month. Billy Wild and his new single "That's It"
Trent Wilkie is a writer/journalist/performer in Edmonton Alberta, Canada, and host to The UnDad Podcast. We continue this conversation with Trent and we touch upon subjects like crying in public, and the release of it. As well as answering a question I always had in my mind, why don't parents give themselves more credit? We are supported by the Otherwise Show, Let's Do Coffee, and of course Next Gen Men
Despite the saying that 'it takes a village', many parents feel like they're doing it alone. So why are parents so reluctant to ask for help? Trent Wilkie, of TheUnDad podcast, is stay-at-home dad of two kids, who struggled when his wife was out of town for a week. He says his reluctance to ask for help stems from guilt and pride. Toronto clinical psychologist Dr. Alex Russell says our inability to ask for help is about much more than pride. He says helicopter parents feel responsible for how kids turn out in the world. Dr. Russell co-authored the book Drop the Worry Ball: How to Parent in the Age of Entitlement. He's also a popular educational speaker, who has addressed many parent and counselor groups. To hear more from Dr. Russell click here. Following thousands of live shows over the span of 40 years, Sharon Hampson and Bram Morrison, (of Sharon, Lois and Bram fame) have had a front row seat to changing family dynamics. Sharon and Bram are travelling the country on their farewell tour. We have an extended interview with them from Fort Nelson, B.C. to ask their advice and biggest message for families. Sharon and Bram are on twitter, connect with them here.
Trent Wilkie is a writer/journalist/performer in Edmonton Alberta, Canada. Trent has written for everything from CBC Radio (The Irrelevant Show) to Adbusters to Fangoria to almost every print media in Edmonton. He is also an experienced canoe guide, he in his words "considers the deep dark woods a therapy that only comes at the cost of comfort." Trent is also a new father late in his life, and someone who was adopted at a young age. This is one of many reasons why I wanted to talk to Trent about his vision for manhood, his ideas around fatherhood, and his wonderings about therapy. You can find the UnDad Podcast here, or if you go to the Alberta Podcast Network website. If you want to attend any of the Wolfpacks coming to Toronto, Calgary, and Edmonton, go here to sign up! A Massachusetts kindergartener was recently teased by his classmates for wearing red nail polish to school. Sam was told it was for girls. But do five and six year olds really have a problem with a boy wearing bright red paint on his nails or are they passing on the opinions from home? We talk to child psychologist Dr. Jillian Roberts about the importance of changing the conversation on gender norms. Roberts is behind the parenting website Family Sparks. We also check in with Aaron Gouveia, Sam’s father, to see if he’s still sporting nail polish to school. Gouveia is an executive at a public relations firm and is also the dad behind the website Daddy Files. You can also follow him on twitter by clicking here. And we get the Undad’s perspective. Trent Wilkie is a stay-at-home dad and weighs in on the nail polish teasing and why parents struggle to say yes to help. You can connect with Trent Wilkie on his website the Undad. We all know young kids are prone to bumps and bruises but what about concussions? We quiz Dr. Bruce Wright at the Stollery Children's Hospital about head injuries and when they require a trip to the emergency room.

Meet Jess Holt, the wry wit and graphic designer by trade who offers a raw, insightful look at life as the mother of twins on Grace and Champ. Jess started the blog as a way to connect with adults after emerging from the first-year fog of somewhat unexpected parenthood, multiplied by 2. “I didn’t want it to be just about parenting, but it turns out that’s all I do,” she says. You don’t get tips from Jess, nor do you get a candy-coated celebration of the joys of motherhood. You get candour, which brings with it reassurance that raising kids is stressful and crazy-making, and all you can do is your best, which is good enough. We talk about shutting down unsolicited advice, the heebie-jeebieness of the term “mommy blogger,” and the feeling of being outnumbered, among other things. Jess recommended these local blogs and podcasts: Raising Edmonton, Lori Godin’s compendium of things to do with your kids; The Momoirs, Hannah Hamilton’s unvarnished truth about parenting; The Undad, Trent Wilkie’s blog about raising one (and soon two) kids; I Have Some Notes, the new podcast from Colin MacIntyre and Gregg Beever on how to fix a bad movie. You can follow Grace and Champ on Twitter and on Facebook.

NOTE: we had some recording equipment issues, which resulted in less-than-awesome sound for our interview. We fixed it up as best we could. Our apologies to our guests and you, our listeners. Scott sat down with... well, me. And also Trent Wilkie and Andrea Beça from Friends Without Benefits, a new sketch comedy group we've formed. I'm not going to talk to much about how awesome we are (which is very), and I'll let the [low-sound-quality] episode speak for itself. Our show launches tomorrow, January 29. Check out the trailer!
We invite Trent Wilkie into the blanket fort to discuss Alberta Ballet‘s Don Quixote and the opening of BWDC‘s season with Toronto Dance Theatre‘s fascinating Eleven Accords. (Also we learn that Fawnda has no idea how to describe time signatures — especially in Steve Reich music.)

A musician and a comedian walk into a recording studio. And the punchline for that is essentially 50 minutes of laughter. Sore abs and cheeks laughter. In this episode, the exceedingly talented and delightful Erica Viegas joins Scott and I to chat about her forthcoming album, and the VIA Rail whistlestop tour she's embarking on to take the album across Canada. Long-time listeners will recall that Erica's been on our show several times, including for our season 3 finale live episode. Listeners may also recall Trent Wilkie, who was our emcee at that show. He joined us in this episode as well, to discuss the forthcoming first-annual Yeggies (of which I am a founder and committee member). Trent is hosting, and he talks about what the night's going to look like, and what's gone into the Yeggies so far. Give us a listen and leave a comment, wouldja?
It's Season Finale time, everyone! We recorded this episode live in front of about 50 people in the back room of Happy Harbor Comics in downtown Edmonton. We had a great time doing the show thanks to our outstanding guests. You can actually see the full recap of the show thanks to the work Sandra Der did on Storify. I'm not going to give you the full episode breakdown with time codes and such... Just discover it for yourself, my friends (oh and sorry about some of the sound levels — it was our first live show, after all)! Huge thanks again to Jay and the crew at Happy Harbor, to Owen and the crew at Guru Digital Arts College, and to all our fabulous guests: Dana DiTomaso, Erica Viegas, Liam Creswick, Todd Babiak, Apocalypse Kow and Trent Wilkie. The show was a success because of you. The podcast will return on September 12, with our season four premiere! Click here to download the season finale show directly to your desktop.
