Today we tell not one but two stories, both involving the same community in Fannin County, Georgia. In 1864 two men, brothers-in-law Elisha Stanley and Evan Hughes, became the victims of a gang of violent bushwhackers who terrorized the area during the Civil War, leaving their families to pick up the pieces. Forty years later, in 1906, the Tilley Bend massacre occurred in the same area, causing a local woman, Elizabeth Bradley, known as a "Granny Woman" and healer, to place a curse on the community, in the process creating what may be the most well-known bit of Appalachian folklore in that part of Georgia. Marty Tilley, author of Grasping for Spiritual Sight, shares her journey from vivid, prophetic dreams to powerful spiritual revelations that transformed her life. During the pandemic, her dreams became deeply spiritual, prompting her to begin a two-year practice of dream journaling. Through this process, she discovered patterns, warnings, and messages that often mirrored real-world events. Her book explores these experiences, showing how visions, spiritual sensitivity, and faith can guide preparation rather than fear. Marty's stories reveal spiritual warfare, courage in the face of uncertainty, and the importance of listening to God's guidance. In the episode, Marty shares how Grasping for Spiritual Sight came together from over 300 journaled dreams, organized into themes including personal revelations, fulfilled visions, and prophecies. She discusses how these dreams helped her overcome fear, gain courage, and take bold steps, such as writing her first book and engaging with readers. Marty also reflects on how her experiences with near-death moments, lifelong faith, and spiritual discernment shaped her perspective and purpose. She emphasizes that the book is not about fear or doom but about recognizing God's guidance, living with intention, and responding to life's challenges with courage and faith. Quotes: “It all began during COVID. My dreams turned spiritual, as if I was receiving a message, and I had to pay attention.” “So many of my dreams were warnings about spiritual warfare… but the message is not to fear. We are meant to act with courage and faith.” “Every word in my book is true, and I hope people can learn to listen to their own small voice, whether dream or whisper.” Resources: Grasping for Spiritual Sight is available on Amazon Discover more of Marty's insights and spiritual guidance

Rosie shares her deeply personal story of life after taking Lexapro, including her battle with Post-SSRI Sexual Dysfunction (PSSD), a condition that has upended her health and well-being. Together, they explore the lack of long-term research on SSRIs, the cultural push toward overmedication, and the pharmaceutical industry’s role in keeping patients uninformed. This eye-opening conversation sheds light on the urgent need for awareness, accountability, and advocacy for those suffering from the hidden consequences of antidepressants. From his arrival in London in 1981 – clutching a suitcase and sewing machine – to his death from AIDS on New Year's Eve 1994, Leigh Bowery – the man described by Boy George as ‘modern art on legs' – led an extraordinary life; a life chronicled in the equally extraordinary biography by his closest friend and confidante Sue Tilley, reissued by Thames and Hudson this February. The Color Cult by John Martin Tilley https://www.amazon.com/Color-Cult-John-Martin-Tilley/dp/1837942250 When Daniel Smith sets out on a crime-as-performance-art spree (known as the "Crime Artist" around town for blowing up cans of paint in bank vaults) fueled in part by the sudden death of his mother (who revisits him, spitefully, as a ghost), he never expects to be forcefully joined by two adherents to his youthful idealist cause: Zach, a sharply honest androgynous blonde, and Lucy, an insouciant voluptuous beauty. On the run from the police as well as from the aching doldrums of life in Lincoln, Nebraska, the three are determined to "change the world" by expanding on Daniel's original series of art crimes. A folksy cast of characters brings together a surrealist romp of a book that toys with questions of art and life, humor and sex, beauty and the absurd. It's a snowstorm, it's a rainbow riot, it's a blazing mad costume party. Read it, if you dare.

Chris Shaffer joined the discussion, bringing research insights about sunscreen ingredients and their impact on humans and the environment. (00:04:00) Vinnie discussed his long-standing concerns about chemical sunscreens, particularly oxybenzone and avobenzone. Chris provided research findings about these chemicals' effects on coral reefs and human health, recommending zinc oxide as a safer alternative. (00:09:00) Many of the chemicals in some sunscreens are hormone disruptors. (00:10:00) Aerosol versions of sunscreens are even more concern. (00:14:00) Mineral sunscreens such as zinc oxide can be good, but titanium dioxide can be a concern. (00:15:00) Titanium dioxide is used in food and other products to brighten and whiten the product. Even in small particles, titanium dioxide can cause cancers. (00:17:00) Zinc oxide is the best bet. When do you need to apply sunscreen? (00:21:50) Reapply every couple of hours, at least. Chris presented research showing that dietary factors like beta carotene, lycopene, and vitamins C and E can enhance skin protection from UV damage. Vinnie shared anecdotal evidence about dietary changes affecting sunburn susceptibility. (00:23:41) They discussed various clothing brands and products that offer UV protection, including Tilley hats, Coolibar shirts, and ExOfficio clothing. They emphasized the importance of investing in quality sun protection gear suitable to your environment (00:29.10) STETSON - AKUBRA HATS - TILLEY HATS - COOLIBAR CLOTHING - PONCHO - EX OFFICO - More News If you are interested in the NSNG® VIP group, closed for registration but you can get on the wait list - Don't forget to check out Serena Scott Thomas on Days Of Our Lives on the Peacock channel. “Dirty Keto” is available on Amazon! On November 2, 1984, fifty-two-year-old Velma Barfield was executed by lethal injection at North Carolina's Central Prison, bringing an end to years of legal appeals and emotional debates over the death penalty and how, when, and to whom it gets applied. For six years, Barfield had sat on death row following her conviction for the poisoning murder of her boyfriend Stewart Taylor in 1976; however, during her trial she confessed to killing at least four other people.Velma Barfield's trial came at a time in the United States when Americans were just beginning to grapple with the concept of a serial killer, and the idea that a woman could commit such heinous acts seemed entirely inconceivable. Although woman had been sentenced to death for murder before in the US, none had confessed to methodically killing multiple people in such a callous way and for such a trivial reason. The debate only became more complicated following her death sentence, an already complicated subject among Americans that became exponentially so in 1984, when Barfield's case and personal story became a major talking point for politicians running for office around the state.Thank you to the Incredible Dave White of Bring Me the Axe Podcast for Research!ReferencesAssociated Press. 1984.
