Do you remember the scene from Star Wars where Luke Skywalker says, "These aren't the droids you're looking for?" Do you remember that Jedi mind trick? And do you wish you had that kind of influence where you could get someone to either do or stop doing something? Or better yet, use that trick on yourself to either break an old habit that no longer serves you or actually make a new healthy habit stick? Well, in this episode, I'm sharing: The six stages of change How to recognize which one you're in (or someone else is in) The kinds of questions you want to be asking to move yourself (or someone else) through those different stages. I'm also sharing the one key thing you absolutely want to avoid doing because it will wind up creating more resistance to change - rather than less. So if you want to hone your Jedi mind trick skills, this is an episode you are going to want to listen to from beginning to end. Bad habits can be difficult to break. Whether it's overeating, smoking, or procrastinating, it can be hard to shake off these behaviors and make positive changes. However, with the right approach, it is possible to overcome bad habits and build healthier habits. One effective strategy is to use triggers to help you quit bad habits and become more self-aware. Triggers are cues that prompt a specific behavior or action. For example, the sound of an alarm clock can be a trigger that prompts you to get out of bed, or the sight of a candy bar can be a trigger that prompts you to reach for a snack. By identifying your triggers, you can take steps to either avoid or manage them in order to break bad habits. Here are some ways that triggers can help you quit bad habits and become more self-aware: Identify your triggers The first step in using triggers to overcome bad habits is to identify what triggers your behavior. For example, if you smoke when you're feeling stressed, then stress is a trigger for your smoking habit. If you reach for unhealthy snacks when you're bored, then boredom is a trigger for your overeating habit. By identifying your triggers, you can start to develop strategies to manage them. Avoid triggers Once you've identified your triggers, you can take steps to avoid them. For example, if you know that being around certain people or places triggers your bad habits, then you can choose to spend less time in those environments. Similarly, if you know that watching TV in the evening triggers your overeating habit, then you can choose to do something else instead. Replace bad habits with healthier habits Instead of avoiding triggers altogether, another approach is to replace your bad habits with healthier habits. For example, if you tend to snack on unhealthy foods when you're feeling stressed, you could try going for a walk or practicing deep breathing exercises instead. By replacing your bad habits with healthier alternatives, you can break the cycle of negative behavior. Use positive affirmations In addition to avoiding triggers or replacing bad habits with healthier habits, it's also important to build a positive mindset. Using positive affirmations can help you become more self-aware and change your behavior. For example, instead of telling yourself "I can't resist this temptation," try saying "I choose to make healthier choices for myself." In conclusion, using triggers can be a powerful tool for quitting bad habits and becoming more self-aware. By identifying your triggers, avoiding them, replacing bad habits with healthier alternatives, and using positive affirmations, you can break the cycle of negative behavior and build healthier habits. Remember, breaking bad habits takes time and effort, but with the right approach, it is possible to make positive changes in your life. On tonight's episode, we dive into Winnipeg Jets head coach Rick Bowness' recent tactical errors. Why is Bones relying on many of the same line-up decisions that led the Dallas Stars to falter? Will Bones go back to the winning ways and methods of the season start, or are the Jets likely to continue to slip further and further in the standings? What does this mean for Winnipeg's playoff odds? Will the acquisition of Timo Meier be enough to save the Jets from post-season disappointment, or will Bones' overreliance on depth players spell trouble? What did Winnipeg's new-look line-up accomplish against the New Jersey Devils? Did it surprise us, or go as poorly as expected? Finally, what will the Ryan O'Reilly trade do for the trade market around Timo Meier? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Built Bar Built Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. We have a new series called 'Know Your Coach'. We ask Ashdin how he follows great habits to achieve an awesome life. It's Valentine's week and we asked Ashdin to tell us 3 things he learned about Love. Ashdin lists them down for us:1. No saying better half because that is coming from a place of lack, one must feel complete just by oneself and any other person is an add-on. 2. The way we approach relationships now is by Possession which is incorrect. Love is freedom and letting the person bloom by themselves. 3. Life is too short to not say I Love You. It's important to understand a few things about habits. Circumstances influence our habits. A weakness for sweets + consistent access to sweets = eating those sweets. You need to change the circumstance to change the habit. Don't put yourself in an obviously tempting situation. For good habits, surround yourself with what you want; if you want to start a new diet, eliminate the prohibited food from your kitchen and fill it with your diet food.
