Another day, another public brawl on the streets of Parabellum City. Will Falk quell the unrest and clean up the streets? Are there laws requiring reporters to have alliterative names and film critics to use French terms? Listen to find out!Black Cats and Bad Habits, episode 138 of This Gun in My Hand, was Rob Northrup crossing your path. This episode and all others are available on Youtube with automatically-generated closed captions of dialog. Visit http://ThisGuninMyHand.blogspot.com for credits, show notes, archives, and to buy my books, such as Sisyphus, Eat Your Heart Out, available in paperback and ebook from Amazon. What contains several bits which can form a fragmentary story when used together? This Gun in My Hand!Show Notes:1. The Black Cat in this episode is NOT a rip-off of the Marvel comics character with the same name. It's a rip-off of the public domain superhero Black Cat who first appeared in Pocket Comics #1, August 1941, and had her own title from Harvey Comics with various name changes (Black Cat Western Comics, Black Cat Mystery Comics, Black Cat Mystic) until 1963.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Cat_(Harvey_Comics)2. When Wordplay took his second play “Shoot” on tour, he found it was not as popular outside of Parabellum City.3. Lana Krang presumably uses a paper or cardstock folder for her Bits file. Mine is digital but the filename is “Bits.”4. If I was trying to cheer up Miss Krang, I'd remind her of some artistically and monetarily successful novelists who were late bloomers: Umberto Eco wrote a lot of non-fiction before his first novel, The Name of the Rose, was published when he was 50. Alan Bradley was 71 when his excellent first novel, The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie, was published. Many such cases.Credits:The opening music clip was from The Sun Sets at Dawn (1950), and the transitional and closing music were from The Big Combo (1955), both films in the public domain. Sarah is living her best childless life and Susie has a cat with an unfortunate habit. We discuss the wildly disturbing documentary Unknown Number about the high school girl who was bullied by her own mom, the reason the documentary was more disturbing than the articles we've already discussed on the show, and why experts are calling this a new form of Munchausen Syndrome. We learn about an amputation doctor who has a fetish for cutting off body parts, why he got arrested, and how he manifested his fetish in himself. And we learn about celebrity children's books, why they always cover the same two topics, and why celebrities do them in the first place.Brain Candy Podcast Presents: Susie & Sarah's SpOoOoOoOoktacular Spectacle, October 30, Oriental Theater, Denver, Colorado: Get your tickets! 00:00 - Welcome to the Show and Our SpOoOoOoOoktacular Spectacle04:37 - Embracing Spontaneity and the Joys of a Childless Life10:15 - Uncovering the Bizarre Habit of Susie's Toilet-Loving Cat13:32 - Manage Your Finances with Rocket Money App15:31 - Deep Dive into the Disturbing Unknown Number Documentary27:44 - Discover Your Style with Daily Look Personal Stylist31:02 - Unpacking the Disturbing Case of the Amputee Doctor42:04 - Simplify Meal Prep with Hungry Root Delivery47:34 - The Cash Grab Behind Celebrity Children's Book Publishing58:36 - Redefining Dreams and Podcast FarewellBrain Candy Podcast Website - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/Brain Candy Podcast Book Recommendations - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/books/Brain Candy Podcast Merchandise - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/candy-store/Brain Candy Podcast Candy Club - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/product/candy-club/Brain Candy Podcast Sponsor Codes - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/support-us/Brain Candy Podcast Social Media & Platforms:Brain Candy Podcast LIVE Interactive Trivia Nights - https://www.youtube.com/@BrainCandyPodcast/streamsBrain Candy Podcast Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastHost Susie Meister Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterHost Sarah Rice Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBrain Candy Podcast on X: https://www.x.com/braincandypodBrain Candy Podcast Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/braincandy (JOIN FREE - TONS OF REALITY TV CONTENT)Brain Candy Podcast Sponsors, partnerships, & Products that we love:For 50% off your order, head to https://www.dailylook.com and use code BRAINCANDYCancel your unwanted subscriptions and reach your financial goals faster at https://rocketmoney.com/braincandy today.Get 40% off your first box PLUS get a free item in every box for life when you go to https://www.hungryroot.com/braincandy and use code BRAINCANDYSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Your brain is a master of tricks—and sometimes its biggest game is keeping you stuck in the very habits you want to break. In this episode, we dive into the sneaky ways your mind works against you, using rationalization, minimization, and self-deception to make bad choices feel “not that bad.” If you've ever thought, “I'll quit tomorrow” or “It's not really a problem,” you'll learn why those thought patterns are so powerful, how they develop, and—most importantly—how to outsmart them. By shining a light on these mental traps, you'll gain the tools to stop justifying unhealthy cycles and start making choices that align with the life you actually want. This episode is your guide to breaking free from self-justification and taking back control of your decisions. Resources Mentioned

Liza Treyger jokes about her bad habits in her Netflix special, "Night Owl".
Do you ever feel like you're stuck in autopilot mode, running through the motions without really asking if you're living the life you truly want? Most of us have at least one habit that feels out of alignment, whether it's scrolling at night, overindulging, or staying in a draining job. We judge ourselves harshly, wondering why we can't break free. But what if these habits are not the problem? What if, instead, they're signals that point to something deeper? In this episode, I offer a new perspective on habits, especially those we label as "bad." Instead of seeing them as flaws to be fixed, I invite you to understand the deeper, often protective reasons behind them. When we approach our habits with curiosity and compassion, we start to recognize that everything we do makes sense when viewed in the context of our life experiences and what we've been taught to value. Get full show notes, transcript, and more information here: https://habitsonpurpose.com/186
What if everything you thought about changing habits is backward? Most of us believe high performance comes from discipline, willpower, and pushing ourselves harder. But what if your environment shapes your behavior far more than your intentions ever could? What if high performers are just better at putting themselves in a situation to win? Drawing from recent conversations with behavioral scientists and my own experience as an executive coach, I've discovered something revolutionary: the secret to lasting behavior change isn't trying harder, it's designing smarter systems around you. Humans possess a unique superpower that sets us apart from every other species on earth. While animals must adapt to their environments, we can consciously create environments that transform us into the people we want to become. Through personal examples, including how I broke a decades-long lip-picking habit overnight, I reveal the 3-part habit loop that governs our behavior. By manipulating these elements we can achieve effortless change where willpower repeatedly fails. Research consistently shows that environmental design strategies work dramatically better than information or motivation alone. This isn't just about personal habits. The principles apply equally to leading teams, raising children, or influencing friends. As Charles Duhigg's work shows, approximately 40% of our behaviors are habitual, and even our non-habitual actions are largely triggered by environmental cues. By shifting your focus from changing yourself to changing your surroundings, you'll unlock a more effective path to transformation. Ready to redesign your environment and watch your habits transform? Listen now and discover how to leverage the science of behavior change to create lasting results in your life and work. Kingdom Advancement: Taking An Axe To The Root Of Bad Habits Here's how you support this broadcast: Go to www.toddcoconato.com and also visit our ministry site at www.pastortodd.org. Beloved, one of the greatest lies the enemy tells God's people is this: “That's just the way you are. You can't change.” But the Word of God says otherwise. You are not bound forever to the same sinful cycles, addictions, and bad habits. Christ has made a way of escape! Today on the Todd Coconato Show, Pastor Todd delivers a powerful message inspired by David Wilkerson's sermon “Take an Axe to the Root.” True freedom doesn't come through surface repentance or excuses—it comes when the Holy Spirit goes deep and cuts out the root of sin. Jesus has not called us to manage sin—He has called us to crucify it and walk in real victory. This message will give you 10 biblical keys to break bad habits once and for all and show you how to live the life of freedom and authority Christ intended. Don't miss it!
