Colin and Bo talk to The Acacia Strain frontman Vincent Bennett about co-creating a genre (which he denies), touring in a world they felt they didn't belong in, and a van accident that traumatized him to this day.
I only dove into like 6-7 frontmen of random Bands stats and tape of the tape on wether or NOT they can two step or circle pit your ass in a pit with you. I've got to say I DOUBT, some of them could, Although I think some of them can and can excel at it. Wall of deathsx circle pits, two steps, push pits, fights. We had the pleasure of interviewing Kevin Boutot of The Acacia Strain over Zoom video! Emerging in the early 2000s, the band found success in 2008 with their fourth full-length effort, Continent, which soared to the top of Billboard's U.S. Heatseekers chart. Subsequent efforts like Death Is the Only Mortal (2012), Coma Witch (2014), and the horror-themed semi-concept LP It Comes in Waves (2019) continued to snap necks in the metal community with brutal efficacy.Formed in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 2001, the group consisted of guitarists Chris Daniele, Daniel Daponde, and Daniel Laskiewitz, vocalist Vincent Bennett, bass player Karrie Whitfield, and drummer Ben Abert. They released their debut, ...And Life Is Very Long, in 2002, followed by 3750 on Prosthetic Records in 2004. After 3750, the band lost Abert (who was replaced by drummer Kevin Boutot) and Daniele, and gained bassist Seth Coleman (Whitfield departed in 2003). In 2006, the Acacia Strain returned with their third full-length album, Dead Walk, on Prosthetic; subsequently, Coleman was replaced by bassist Jack Strong. Released in 2008, Continent found the group operating as a foursome, following Daponde's departure, while 2010's Wormwood introduced melodic hooks into the venomous mix of breakdowns and skull-splitting howling. The live CD/DVD Most Known Unknown arrived the following year. The Acacia Strain signed to Rise Records in 2012, releasing Death Is the Only Mortal by year's end. Longtime member Laskiewitz left the band in 2013, and was replaced by Devin Shidaker and Rich Gomez, both of whom contributed guitar to the Acacia Strain's seventh full-length album, 2014's Coma Witch. In early 2017, the group issued "Bitter Pill," the first single from their eighth studio long-player, Gravebloom, which arrived later that June. In late 2019, the band released It Comes in Waves, a doomy, taut, and atmospheric seven-song set with single-word song titles that, when put together, construct the sentence "Our only sin was giving them names." The following year saw the Acacia Strain issue a series of pummeling 7" releases (A, C, E, D, Y) that went on to form (and spell) the full-length Slow Decay, which arrived that summer. We want to hear from you! I had the pleasure of talking on the phone with Vincent Bennett from The Acacia Strain about a variety of topics including – touring during a pandemic, the value of a positive outlook, how he got motivated to get in shape, ska music, early influences and much much more.
Johnny sits down with Vincent Bennett (vocalist of The Acacia Strain) in Clifton Park, NY to explore some of the pressures that come along with adopting a positive mindset after decades of negativity, finding rhythm in the unpredictability of a touring lifestyle, and processing the death of a parent at just 10 years old. Vincent Benett is the frontman for the Acacia Strain. For the past sixteen years, the New England collective have risen through the metal and hardcore ranks to now stand as one of its generals. Bennett paid his dues early on, starting out by playing basements and dives of Massachusetts. His forthright and self deprecating attitude is ammunition for bleak and dark lyrical content combined with crushing riffs is the band's crux. It is on full display on Acacia Strain's latest album, "Gravebloom" - available NOW via Rise Records. John Paul Pitts is the lead singer and songwriter for unwavering indie rockers, Surfer Blood. John sits down for a quick chat about growing up in south Florida, forming the band in art school, some of the high and lows of the bands storied career which could serve as a cautionary tale. Pitts has had his share of personal triumphs and woes over the past few years, but that has not impeded his resolve to keep the band going despite a few setbacks along the way. Surfer Blood's newest record, "Snowdonia" is out NOW on Joyful Noise.
Interview aired the weekend of 7/7/17

We were very excited to have The Acacia Strain frontman Vincent Bennett call into the Livecast once again (here's his previous episode). Vincent talked about being on the Warped Tour, what keeps him going, his favorite ska bands, how ska got him into heavier stuff and the band's new album, Gravebloom, out June 30th. We also talk about the recent Nickelback/Stone Sour drama, Mike Francesa's problems with Asian Americans, Gene Simmons' selfishness and our views on atheism/being a Jew. var screenWidth = document.documentElement.clientWidth; if(screenWidth ADVERTISEMENT nngoogletag.display('adpos-300-4');nnn");} As always, we'd love to hear your feedback on the episode, whether by leaving a comment below, on our Facebook, Twitter, emailing hatemail@metalinjection.net or leaving a voicemail by either Skyping "metalinjectionlivecast" or using the Speakpipe widget below. Our guest this week on your favorite metal podcast was suggested to us by none other than Chris Adler of Lamb of God back when he was on the podcast last year, although we have been fans of Allegaeon for quite a while outside of that endorsement. In our interview with guitarist Greg Burgess we talk about trying to top what you think is your best work, the shuffling of the staff around the band, manager and booking agent and why they needed to make a change, what surrounded the shift in singers for their new record Proponent for Sentience, and we find out how much it costs to get Bill Nye in your music video. We also discuss the non-beef beef that came up this week between Born of Osiris guitarist Born of Osiris and The Acacia Strain's Vincent Bennett. What appeared to be drunk Tweets got serious when the metal media paid it some attention. Are we taking ourselves too seriously? Drunk Tweets are just drunk Tweets, right? Even if you are picking a fight with someone who doesn't even know why you are fighting with them in the first place. When a band feels they have to diffuse a situation as the first reaction to something that can be attributed to an over-the-limit BAC level, maybe we need to adopt a sense of humor. Let's just apologize now for our discussion too while we're at it. Songs: Allegaeon – "All Hail Science" Steve N Seagulls – "Symphony of Destruction"
In the first hour of the show, we played some of the Lou Reed and Metallica collaboration, Lulu (which you can listen to here), while giving our live stream of opinions about it. Noa also answered questions about hairy Jews, and we talked about Comic Con a bit. In the second hour, we were joined by the frontman of The Acacia Strain, Vincent Bennett at the top of the 2nd hour. He answered questions about touring overseas, took some questions from fans, and talked about the upcoming US national God Damn tour and the Halloween Costume Contest we are doing. We concluded the show talking to one of our fans from Saudi Arabia. Here is this week's playlist: Kvelertak – Blodtørst Skeletonwitch – Reduced To The Failure Of Prayer Leprous – Thorn Electro Quarterstaff – McNutty Celtic Frost – Cherry Orchards The Acacia Strain – Bay of Pigs
