This week on Toilet Radio: Summer Slaughter sold by Ash Avildsen, Jamey Jasta proud new owner of a lemon. Related: We look at Ash's new women's wrestling movie and are awed by new heights in nepotism. An original Possessed guitarist (not the guy you know) got shot by the cops in a lawn care dispute. We get more depressing information on Ozzy's upcoming final performance. Propagandhi and Hideous Divinity are backing out on US tours for very valid reasons. Finally, we have a mostly pleasant conversation about the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame (no Eddie Trunk). Music featured on this show: Chainsword – Butcherhorde Want more Toilet Radio? The legendary Jamey Jasta of Hatebreed joins the podcast this week to talk about this year's edition of Milwaukee Metalfest. We get into the ins and outs of running the festival, curating the line-up and more. I also get an update on the next Hatebreed album, Stormbreeders of Death and I ask perhaps the most important Jasta-related question of them all: why have we not had another Icepick album. Then Matt Priso of Conspiracy X, Spells Ov Torment and SIK joins to co-host the weekly news rant. We round up the latest singles by Horn, Signs of the Swarm, Death Angel, Helheim, and for judgment, and Matt updates me on the status of all his musical projects. PLUS: Sydney, Australia's Anoxia are here to crush skulls with “Rule By Cold Steel”. Interview by Kris PetersRipper Owens has returned to Australia, but this time he is on his own. Not literally, of course, but for the first time in recent memory, Ripper comes Down Under with a clean slate and no pre-existing musical obligations by way of bands and/or collaborations. As such he is free to pull songs from a vast and varied network spent fronting iconic acts including Judas Priest, Iced Earth, Yngwie Malmsteen, Dio's Disciples, The Three Tremors, KK's PRIEST and the incredibly ferocious RIPPER - a collaborative project spearheaded by Hatebreed's Jamey Jasta.Joined by the Metallic luminary of brothers Joel & Jordan McDonald, Andrew Hudson and Voya Mulitinovic, Ripper's live assault will be molten as hell… And if you crave anything less - You've Got Another Thing Coming…Ripper's unique skills tore open a fairytale career, across the biggest stages in the world. This run of shows will showcase the absolute, toughest cuts from Ripper's world of Heavy Metal. Expect huge hits, deep dives, virtuosic shred, and a heap of fists in the air, full cavalry style, head-banging glory.HEAVY caught up with Ripper during some rare downtime on the road.We bring up the fact that with so much material to draw from, choosing a set list to appease the masses must seem like an impossible and thankless task. "It is," he nodded. "It is just as it is with anybody. It's the same with KK's Priest, isn't it? We do a lot of KK stuff… probably half and half, but a thing we don't do is a lot of my era of Judas Priest. We do one song, so people complain a lot about that. But it's the same with every band and every artist out there. It's always a pain in the butt and a challenge to make a set list. You will not make everybody happy, and to be honest, in this day and age it's impossible. They're gonna complain. Just by reading comments on posts of mine on social media, people know everything. They know exactly how I should look, sound, what clothes I should wear, what set lists I should have, so you're not gonna make everybody happy. It's really hard to do, and you nailed it. People wanna hear Winters Bane, my first band I released something with, so it is tough, but you've gotta do it. I've toured doing these songs. I know for my South America tour I have coming up I have added Bloodstained in the set list and we might do Jugulator, but it's tough to do it."In the full interview, Ripper tells us what to expect from his shows, his backing band and why he chose them, his recent collaborations with aspiring musicians, musical freedom, what he gets out of playing in so many bands, challenging yourself musically and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

I was able to come to the realization why I went into radio all those years ago. It was for the fun and pure joy of it. The last year was filled with ugliness, drama and a ton of laughter. Me, Carl Ruiz, Vic Henley and Sherrod Small had the time of our lives on and off the radio show. Our close friendships was on full display. The last year also saw Carl Ruiz blossom into a superstar which led me to do the Opie Radio podcast with him. A special thanks to Erock, Clubsoda Kenny, Paul and Louis for going on this ride with us. Hope you enjoy the Good, the Bad and the Ugly of the last year of radio I did. This week we look to the stars for inspiration for our show theme. Oh yeah! We are talking about bands that have rock stars in them: Supergroups and Offshoots. A band consisting of well-known artists from other bands does not always equal great success. We dive into some of the more obscure supergroups and offshoots that didn't break with huge mainstream success or stay around very long. What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection; an artist, album, or collection of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. This week we talk exclusively about Supergroups featuring famous solo artists and band members along with, Offshoots which are bands who contain the bulk of a previous incarnation of a famous band. Our hope is that we turn you on to something new.Songs this week include:Chequered Past – “A World Gone Wild” from Chequered Past (1984)California Breed – “Midnight Oil” from California Breed (2014)BackBeat Band – “Rock & Roll Music” from BackBeat – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (1994)Brides Of Destruction – “Brace Yourself” from Brides Of Destruction (2004)Robin Trower - “Life On Earth” from BLT (1981)Down ‘N' Outz – “By Tonight” from My ReGeneration (2010)Metal Allegiance – “Wait Until Tomorrow” from Metal Allegiance (2015)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uIf you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/Check out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/

Episode 114 Jay Reason After being a guest on the Diablo's Den hosted by Danny Diablo & Jay Reason, it was natural to bring Jay Reason onto the show. Having been friends with Jay since the earliest days of traveling out of state and being close of age, we had alot to talk about and reminisce about. Jay started out singing in Voice of Reason, then The Distance. He would be the assistant to Jamey Jasta and manage the Stillborn Records. He would later graduate into corporate record industry roles until he broke off a started his own label and now runs a record state in his homestate of Connecticut. Colin and Bo sit down with Jamey Jasta, frontman of Hatebreed and "Godfather of Spinkick Music" in this 3 hour chronological journey on how Hatebreed went from struggling to open local shows, to major label, grammy nominated headlining band. A fascinating deep dive in to the way Jamey analytically looked at growing as a band well before internet resources were available to him. By the end of this episode, it will be clear that Hatebreed's success was much more by design than coincidence. There is no Hardlore without Hatebreed and without Jasta. Thanks for listening. We pick up in 2002 with a legendary show at The Otherside in Tulsa w/ Hatebreed, Six Feet Under, Shadows Fall & Death Threat. Absolutely incredible, sold out show in Tulsa w/ an even funnier story behind it as venue security uses Jay Ramone's head as a door opener as he gets hurled into the parking lot, rolling past Max Baker Jr. & Hatebreed's Tour Manager at the time, known as Sully The Bull. What more could more entertaining than seeing Jay Ramone getting tossed from a venue? The first time you see Hardcore Dancing comes pretty close. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

For the first episode of Season 6 of the LSQ podcast, I was honored to welcome an artist whose words and music I have admired for nearly thirty years now: the Mountain Goats' John Darnielle. In episode 84, John shares fascinating insight into his early creative inklings, the music he loved as a kid, and how he went from clinging to his Aristocats soundtrack to embracing Elton John and the Bay City Rollers and eventually unlocking a secret passion for heavy metal. He also describes his transition from writing poetry on its own to combining his verses with music, initially singing haunting melodies over the sound of static from his black & white TV, and then developing the boombox recording method he used when he started as the Mountain Goats in the mid-Nineties. And we dish about how he got involved with Rian Johnson's new mystery series, Poker Face. (He wrote the music for it with Jamey Jasta from Hatebreed, and also has a small acting role.) Darnielle and the Mountain Goats' Matt Douglas are currently on tour in the U.S. as a duo. Get dates and tickets here.
