The KISW family was left heartbroken late last night when we learned of the passing of one of our family, Kevin Diers. The long standing host of Metal Shop and Loud & Local left us with so many memories of his positivity, passion, and infectious attitude. He's missed already

Kevin Diers was an announcer and engineer here at KUOW. You could hear his work all over the station, behind shows like Morning Edition and All Things Considered. He had a big footprint in the radio and music scene here in Seattle, for many years: Kevin was a long time host of Metal Shop and Loud and Local at KISW. On KISW’s Instagram page, the band The Home Team wrote: "Kevin was the biggest supporter of local bands and music... He put us on when no one else would, and consistently uplifted the local scene with Loud & Local. He will be missed.” Kevin was also part of the team at DEFY wrestling, a Seattle-area pro-wrestling promoter where he hosted a DEFY podcast. Kevin was a gentle soul. He was kind and built community wherever he went. And he leaves a huge hole in our hearts. We miss you, Kevin.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It's a jam-packed episode of Talkin' Rock with three guests. Legendary Triumph frontman Rik Emmett is up first. His new book, Ten Telecators Tales drops on the 25th. He speaks about the book, why he wrote it, and more. We did talk about Triumph....the band's heyday, his strengths, and how I thought he never got the credit he deserved for his guitar playing. Always a treat to have Rik on the show! Leigh Kakaty of Pop Evil is next. Their new album comes out on the 21st, called What Remains. Leigh said the struggle is what found its way into the writing of the record. “Our manager George called me up after a few songs and said, ‘Do you realize what you’re writing about?’” Leigh told me. “I hadn’t even thought about it. But when I went back and just read the lyrics—man, every song was about me, about the darkness I had buried. It was like my subconscious was writing the album before I even knew it.” I asked him about that. He has such a cool life, so what could be so bad? “People don’t realize—yeah, my life looks amazing, but it comes with sacrifices,” he said. “You leave for months, come back, and it’s like people aren’t waiting around. They’re living their lives. And then you’re thrown back into normal life, trying to figure out where you fit in. It’s a mental challenge.” Finally, it's radio legend and host of the show Metal Shop, Charlie "The Butcher" Kendall. The show was on the air from the mid-80s through the early 90s, and now it's back. Charlie talks about how the show began, and the spark that marks its return. He's spent many decades up and down the radio dial and has the stories to share. I listened to Metal Shop religiously as a kid, so this was a thrill for me. To speak with the man behind the show was a full-circle radio moment for sure. -Meltdown-

From a metal shop to an automotive giant – we’re going to go on an adventure today, to look at how carmaker Peugeot made history in the 21st century, and how it intends to charge ahead. Founded in 1810 in the midst of the industrial revolution by Jean-Frederic and Jean-Pierre II Peugeot, the company came about when the Peugeot family transformed its hydraulic mill into a steel mill. With the steel mill, various branches of the family started expanding into manufacturing to produce a wide range of products, all based on steel. Think along the lines of tools, springs, umbrellas, whales, corset frames, watch pieces, bicycles and more. Years went by, and then came a family member called Armand Peugeot who is crucial to the entire story. As someone who was fascinated by engineering, Armand Peugeot came up with the first Peugeot-branded automotive vehicle in 1889, a steam-driven, non-commercialised 3-wheeler. That sowed the seeds for the modern day Peugeot. In 2021, Peugeot and Fiat Chrysler Automobile merged to form Stellantis, becoming the world’s third largest automaker by vehicle sales. Today, Peugeot is said to offer the widest electric vehicle line-up of any European mainstream brand, covering all needs from urban cars to commercial vehicles. But how has Peugeot’s positioning changed over the centuries, particularly post merger? Also – how is Peugeot as a brand doubling down on the electrification trend, especially with the discontinuation of its 508 model to make way for EVs? On Under the Radar, Money Matters’ finance presenter Chua Tian Tian posed these questions to Linda Jackson, (then) CEO, Peugeot. ************Additional Note: Shortly after the Part 1 of the interview went out, Stellantis, the parent company of Peugeot, announced a series of changes to its top leadership, including at Peugeot. As part of the changes, Alain Favey was announced as the new CEO of Peugeot, taking over from Linda (Jackson) who has retired after 20 years with the company. It's been a privilege to speak with Linda in one of her last interviews with the media in her capacity at Peugeot, and we wish her all the best in her future endeavour. *************See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A Middle Tennessee Business Podcast....subscribe/follow/rate/review at www.mmtbp.comThe Mostly Middle Tennessee Business Podcast went remote in a *very* mostly way. We were invited to have a booth at the Music City Drum Show and talk to several drummers, entrepreneurs and manufacturers about the various facets of the music business. In this episode, I sat down with April Samuels with Breast Cancer can STICK It, and she's a musical entrepreneur of the highest degree!April picked up her first pair of sticks at age five at Nadine's Music Manor and was enthralled in private drum lessons at the same store by the age of 11 studying under former Bo Diddley/Ice Capades/Fifth Dimension drummer Warren White. April navigated her teens by playing in garage bands with her guitarist brother, Todd. Later, she expanded her study when she majored in music at the University of North Texas. As she developed her musical style, April co-wrote several songs used in episodes on the show "Outward Bound" on the Discovery Channel. April has since performed, recorded and/or written with 30+ different groups including an album with Matthew Johnson (formerly of Great White), two groups with David Harbour (formerly of Michael Harris, David T. Chastain, King Diamond), two groups with Dave Hineman (formerly of Solinger) and a group with Joey C. Jones.Since 2012 (aside from a year hiatus from April 2021-June 2022) Samuels has performed up to 120 shows a year across Texas and Louisiana with the 80s spoof-hair-band Metal Shop under the pseudonym "Crash Gordon" . Highlights during her tenure included headlining multiple times at the House of Blues locations in Dallas, Houston and New Orleans, as well as playing for over 15,000 attendees at a San Antonio Spurs watching game at AT&T Center.April's musical interests don't stop there. She ran a booking agency, 100 Proof Entertainment from 1989-2010, where she booked over 50 different regional bands - handling as many bands as 13 at one time. Because of this interest, she attended several seminars, exhibits, and music industry functions through the Dallas Songwriters Association, Austin Songwriters Group, South by Southwest the Sony R&B Workshop, and NAMM to name a few.April has also worked for Planet Dallas Studios (Dallas, TX) in the Publishing Department, worked as a salesperson for Texas Beat Magazine (Austin, TX), and was the assistant booking agent for the former club, The Basement (Dallas, TX).Currently, Samuels plays full-time with Metal Shop as well as Rebel Yell - The Tribute to Billy Idol, is the touring drummer for Just Like P!nk - The P!NK Experience, plays with two original bands (49th Vibration and her recently revived band BULLITT originally established in 2006), as well as playing fundraisers with her cover band, The Breast Cancer Can Stick It! Band. April was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive form of breast cancer in 2010 and immediately combined her passion for drums with her personal fight against cancer by founding her nonprofit organization Breast Cancer Can Stick It! Foundation, Inc.. April has been cancer-free since her mastectomy in November of 2010. Through performing shows, collaborating with celebrities for fundraisers, guest appearances and speaking events, April rocks year round both behind and in front of the drums.Follow April:https://www.aprilsamuels.com/https://www.breastcancercanstic
