In light of the after glow that some have called 2020 and 2021… well… a dumpster fire…I am weirdly grateful for all that has happened this past couple of years. I feel that I grew so much because it was a crucible for growth. Why are you choosing to feel this way?We so often go through life being directed by our feelings. We think this is how we should be, that this should be our focus…this is what the media and world tell us. We chase after happiness, that good feeling, love in anyway that we can find it. What ultimately happens, we start to feel disillusioned , resentful, sad, despondent, anxiety, depression even angry because life isn't going according to plan or by our expectations. This is not what was sold to you by media, the world, your parents.Your parents, teachers and so on have unwittingly perpetuated that someone can hurt your feelings.They say to us as children: did Tommy hurt our feelings? What do you tell yourself ?Procrastinator, perfectionist, not tech savvy, old, weak, not a painter, can't do this , only good at this, not good at that. I will always be alone. I am a people pleaser. I do not like or cannot handle confrontation. Going to tell you now. NONe of that is TRUE. Those are just thoughts. Thoughts can show up as beliefs, manuals, rules, stories…. These are just things that we started believing and follow. We allow it to define us. Find out where you got your story, what it means and how you can redefine you and have you be the hero of your own story rather than being victim or letting the story just happen to you. What are you believing that you don't have to?What Myth or Rule are you following?From that belief, myth, or rule, how is that manifesting in your life? How can you see it keeping you stuck? Or blocking you from you realizing your goals? When it comes time to do the actions to make your goals inevitable, what are you doing instead?Well all a belief, myth or rule is a thought. A thought that you have decided to subscribe to and follow. That thought, creates a feeling that drives your actions. All of that has gotten you where you are.Maybe you didn't intentionally adopt it/them. They could have been handed to you or taught to you as a child, or you developed it from society or experiences. No matter what it is, I want to offer that you have a choice. You get to CHOOSE if those beliefs align with you, today.When you adopted those beliefs, myths or rules you were in a different place and time. You have had different experiences. All of that has changed you. Those thoughts that you are believing may not fit with who you ARE and/or Who you are to become.I had to change a lot of beliefs about myself and let go of a lot of rules that I was unconsciously following. It was keeping me in a cycle of unworthiness and playing small. Coaching has helped me uncover the rules and myths so that I can confidently go after my passions and purpose. We all chase after an ideal image of what we “should be”.We chase after perfection so that we can be “good enough”.We give so much away of our resources: time, money, effort and ourselves, so that we can be accepted / acceptable or to be worthy.We all beat ourselves up for making mistakes, “failing”, not saying or doing the “right thing”.You don't have to chase after or project the Ideal Image just to be accepted or loved.You don't have to be perfect or do things perfectly to be worthy.You don't have to give so much away in hopes that you will be appreciated, loved or wanted.Of course you mess up.You are human.You are not alone my dear.Most of us are waiting for permission…Permission to take off the mask and finally be ourselves and be accepted for who we are. There are foundational building blocks of Confidence. This is the first foundational building block to gaining and having unshakeable confidence. And, it's not what you think!
Do you find yourself struggling with confidence? Feeling stuck? It could be the fact that you are in the midst of a shift in seasons in your life that is shifting your Identity. As we live, experience the world, we learn and grow. This challenges our thoughts about life and/or who we are. It could be a radical change or even tiny micro shifts. When we resist the change or not aware of the new thoughts and beliefs that may challenge our old thinking, it causes an internal struggle that can result in feeling stuck or the uncomfortable unnamable feeling or lack of confidence. It is so important to be aware of how language and the words that we say and think affects us and how we feel and react. It is such a subtle thing but can have such a significant impact. There are "red flags" phrases that have the ability to spin us out and change the meaning of what we say and how we react to it and ultimately affecting our goals and results.
We go into a relationship either unclear of who we are in a relationship or we have an expectation of how we "should be" in the relationship. The same goes true for your significant other. Taking responsibility for your own happiness is the best type of self-care. It is then, that we get to fully show up and just enjoy. When we do this, we show up more confidently.We talk about ways that we can show up more confidently by taking responsibility for our happiness.
Good riddance to 2020. In the new year, we usually take time to reflect and make choices of how we are going to be in the new year. This is no different.I am not asking what habits you are going to make effort to add to your life. I am going much deeper. I am asking you something that will change your life if you embrace this concept. This has the ability to change your relationships, your work, your income, your children and your confidence.
Confidence is not found outside of us. It is found within. It is found in the ability to manage our minds and our emotions. That is where the true power is, to have our own backs and be able to handle anything that comes our way. This is just a short introduction about why this exists.
