Hey there, Solo Star. Today's topic might hit closer to home than you expect. I want to talk about confidence and self-esteem—not in the morning-affirmation kind of way, but in the real way. The kind of confidence that helps you speak clearly about what you offer, price your services without shrinking, and show up consistently—especially when no one is clapping for you yet. If you've ever thought, “I should feel better about myself by now,” or “Why do I keep second-guessing everything?”—you're not alone. In fact, confidence and self-esteem are two of the most common inner struggles I hear about from women solopreneurs. And they are often confused for each other—yet they show up differently and need different support. So today, I'm breaking down 3 things you really need to know about confidence and self-esteem, especially if you're growing a solo business. Let's make this simple and practical, so you leave with clarity—and a few tools you can actually use. Here's the link to this episode on Sandra's website if you'd like to check it out: https://sandrasmith.com/podcast-episode/3-things-you-should-know-about-confidence-and-self-esteem.

You are familiar with the advice that you shouldn't go grocery shopping when you are hungry because you will spend more money and buy more junk. However, that's just a piece of story. Hunger and shopping are related in other ways. This episode begins by explaining how. https://phys.org/news/2015-03-hungry-people-food.html#google_vignette The idea that spending too much time on your phone, tablet or computer is bad for you has become conventional wisdom. But is that true? What does the research say about this? It turns out it's not black and white, there are shades of gray worth understanding. Here to explain this is Jacqueline Nesi. She is a psychologist and assistant professor at Brown University who writes the popular weekly newsletter Techno Sapiens (https://technosapiens.substack.com), which provides tips to manage your screen time better. She has published over 50 peer-reviewed publications related to technology use and has appeared on CNBC, CNN, and NPR. Your body is an amazing collection of processes and systems that all work to keep you alive and moving. Most of us have no idea what goes on inside of us to make it all happen so, here to explain some of it and unravel a few mysteries of the human body and explain why we can't live forever, how the body defends itself, why we need to sleep and so much and more is Dr. Darragh Ennis. He is a scientist and researcher who has worked at the University of Oxford and the University of Glasgow and he is author of the book The Body: 10 Things You Should Know (https://amzn.to/42ApkC5). Yes, this episode is about “no”. This is one of the first words we all learn. It serves so many different purposes when all you can do is indicate what you want and don't want. Things change as you mature, though. “No” begins to have more specific applications. It can indicate, interest, capability, desire, understanding, and many more things. It means a lot in work place culture. If you're trying to build a generous workplace culture, you have to understand how the word “no” can do so many things for your role and those around you. Using it well can keep things respectful, relatable, real, and organized. Use it wrong and things can get negative pretty quick. I try to make “no” a consistent part of work these days. I think you'll understand why after listening to the episode. Have a generous rest of your week.
