Outside of working with us on the show, Teri has her own business. With that business she has done some major procrastinating when ti comes to filing her taxes...
Yes! You are in. Confession, procrastination is an area of struggle for me. It is. My biggest holes dug have been via procrastination and pride. Here you go...If you dig that opening hook that is Marcus Rogers, Best Life. Please buy his music.Word! Pastor Ricky Jenkins is that Play of the Day. Southwest Church, Indian Wells, Ca. That came from YouTube and you can find it at the link below (in the episode description) or simply search "What Would Jesus Say to the Procrastinator", March 24, 2025.https://youtu.be/MI2gNwBp_qk?si=ojDCx6ZvSyhq51x8If that resonates, I highly recommend you listen to the rest of it. Well, one thing I learned is that I'm not alone. You all procrastinate somewhere. Yes, some do better than others. Yet take a look in the mirror (health, marriage, a strained family relationship, Faith, obeying God?). Think about it. You have a weak spot somewhere. Otherwise, you would be perfect and don't need Jesus Christ. Yet, I know you do via Rom 3:23 and your flawed nature. Now, I bet you are really good and proactive at some things. For example, health comes super easy to me. I exercise just about every day. I eat healthy almost every day. I fast often. I can control my food and liquid intake. How about you? So you are procrastinating somewhere.Where do I stumble? Finances. I've been clear on that over this podcact. Accounting for me is like eating spinach for some of you. So I'm taking Pastor Ricky's advice. I'm starting with a little bit or step each day. So far, this week, I've done it. I've already done more about my procrastination then I have in a long time. By taking little, baby steps.Where do you need to improve? What have you been delaying? Who do you need to talk to? Write it down. Challenge yourself a little bit 6 out of 7 days per week.James 4:17 - Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it. New Living TranslationMan that verse cuts. I don't share it as a guilt check as much as a reality check. We all have room for improvement. Also, be free in knowing we all have room for improvement. And then honor your Abba and say ok, here is where I'm going to start at better. Please God, here is my area, guide me.Lastly, whatever you are trying to do, do it with love. Love God, Love Others. Matt 22: 36-40. Everything else you are trying to do...even overcoming procrastination hangs on doing those two commandments first, loving God. Loving Others. Doing what you know you should be doing is loving God.

Welcome back to another episode of School Counseling Simplified! I love following themes on the podcast, and for the month of March, I'm taking you through my lesson plans STEP by STEP! Last week, we covered Tier 1 strategies, and today, we're diving into Tier 2 small groups! Why Use a Curriculum Map? I LOVE using a curriculum map to stay organized—it helps you know what to do, when to do it, and how to do it, plus it includes all the resources you need! My IMPACT members get full access to this, along with all my TPT resources for free. If you're a podcast listener, you can try out the curriculum map and get lesson plans for the entire year—just check the resources section below! Since testing season is approaching, now is a great time to form an academic skills group to help students feel prepared and confident. These groups provide strategies for test-taking success and help reduce testing anxiety. My small groups typically last 8 weeks and are FULL of activities, but here are a couple that I would recommend! Icebreakers & Activities Test-Taking Tips Matching Game – Review and reflect on actual test-taking strategies in a fun, interactive way. Prepared or Procrastinator Board Game – A game where students land on a “Prepared” or “Procrastinator” card and discuss the scenario before moving forward or backward. This helps reinforce the importance of study habits and time management. Ever wondered, “Why are my students so anxious, and how can I help them beyond just deep breathing exercises?” You're not alone! I wanted to go beyond the basics and dive into the psychological cycles of stress—and now I have a FREE training for you! Many counselors ask me how they can better support students with test anxiety beyond simple deep breathing exercises. I wanted to go beyond the basics and dive into the psychological cycles of stress, which led me to create a free live training called Help Students Break the Stress Cycle: The Anxiety Management Tool You Didn't Learn in Grad School! This training will empower you with new strategies to help students manage stress effectively. You can save your seat at stressfreeschoolcounseling.com/stresscycle. If you are looking for additional resources, you can find my free curriculum map and learn more about my IMPACT membership in the links below. I hope this episode helps you plan your Tier 2 small groups with confidence. Stay tuned as we continue step-by-step lesson planning this month. In this episode, Ellen Hendriksen discusses the hidden costs of perfectionism and why you never feel good enough. She shares the various ways perfectionism disguises itself as a positive trait—when in reality, it can lead to self-criticism, procrastination, and emotional exhaustion. Ellen also explains why perfectionism is less about being perfect and more about never feeling good enough, how self-acceptance is the antidote, and why procrastination is actually an emotional regulation problem (not a time management issue). Key Takeaways: (01:02) – Perfectionism isn’t about being perfect—it’s about never feeling good enough (03:26) – The two wolves of perfectionism: Conscientiousness vs. Self-Criticism (07:36) – Overevaluation: When self-worth gets tangled with performance (16:57) – Guided Drift: Mr. Rogers’ surprising philosophy on perfection and mistakes (26:51) – The power of self-compassion: You don’t need to be perfect to be worthy (39:40) – Emotional Perfectionism: The toxic belief that you “shouldn’t” feel a certain way (43:59) – Why procrastination is actually about emotion management—not time management (50:46) – How to release past mistakes and stop ruminating over failures For full show notes, click here! Sisters, if you've ever wondered if you might be a perfectionist, chances are you may be. And, according to author Katherine Morgan Schafler, that's more than okay. Schafler, author of The Perfectionist's Guide to Losing Control: A Path ot Peace and Power, encourages us to look at perfectionism in a more positive light and to discard the pathologizing of it. You can be a perfectionist and, yes, you can be happy! Schafler explains there isn't just one way to be a perfectionist and identifies 5 different types: Intense, Classic, Parisian, Procrastinator, and Messy. (Both Abby and Julie admit to being the Messy Type!) In Schafler's own words, "Perfectionism invites a deep, unending exploration of who you are and what you most desire from this life." We couldn't agree more.

The How of Business - How to start, run & grow a small business.
Overcoming Fear to start and grow your small business, with Ruth Soukup - author of “Do It Scared: Finding the Courage to Face Your Fears, Overcome Obstacles, and Create a Life You Love”. Show Notes Page: https://www.thehowofbusiness.com/r255-ruth-soukup-overcoming-fear / "The whole idea behind ‘do it scared' is not that you don't ever feel afraid because we all feel afraid. It's that you take action even in the face of fear and you continually take action because ultimately action is the antidote to fear." Ruth introduces the concept of the Seven Fear Archetypes, which she developed through research involving over 4,000 participants. These archetypes include the Procrastinator, Rule Follower, People Pleaser, Outcast, Self-Doubter, Excuse Maker, and Pessimist. Each archetype reflects distinct ways fear manifests, such as procrastination driven by perfectionism or self-doubt stemming from insecurities. Understanding these archetypes allows individuals to identify their unique fears and develop targeted strategies to overcome them. Our discussion also focuses on principles of courage, including “owning your choices” and “recognizing that balance is overrated.” Ruth argues that taking responsibility for one's life, while letting go of the myth of perfection and balance, empowers individuals to prioritize purpose over superficial ideals. She highlights the importance of rejecting excuses, embracing imperfections, and persistently moving forward, even when success feels uncertain. This episode is hosted by Henry Lopez. In this episode of Burn Stress, Lose Weight, I'm diving into the "freeze" stress response, as it relates to procrastination. Through her my own real example—recording this episode while running an errand she admits was a way to avoid work—I'll illustrate how high-achieving moms often find themselves stuck, even when they seem to be moving at a hundred miles an hour. If you're struggling to follow through on your plans, feeling overwhelmed by the pressure to get things "just right," this episode will resonate with you. It's not about being perfect, but about breaking through indecision and learning to execute even when things feel messy. In this episode of The Sispatch, Jasmine and Bevin take you on a hilarious journey through their travel highs and lows. Jasmine, the queen of organization, is armed with color-coded itineraries and spreadsheets, while Bevin, the procrastinator extraordinaire, is already stressing about potential travel mishaps (and maybe secretly wishing for a cozy night in). They swap tales of past adventures, like their family trip to Hawaii. Plus, they dream up future escapades to Chicago, Japan and Germany. As they dish on the thrill (and terror) of landing in a new country and the chaotic joy of traveling with kids, they debate whether to capture every moment on film or completely disconnect from social media and savor the experience. Oh, and don't miss one of the sister's hilarious struggles with car sickness (can you guess which one)! And of course, what's a sisterly chat without a dash of Disney? They wrap up with a hilarious debate on being Disney adults—hitting the parks solo, no kids allowed, vs a trip with the kids. So buckle up and join the adventure! Workaholic. Foodie. Perfectionist. Overachiever. Procrastinator. These are some of the common labels you wear that limit your growth and stunt your progress. And, it's not helping you. In today's episode, listen in as I break down how your own chosen labels are hurting you, where and why they came to be, and how you can let them go. Start listening. Our first tale, "Channel INFINITY", which tells the story of an obscure ritual involving an ordinary TV set that turns out to be anything but ordinary, and a number of ritualistic items. As the protagonist follows the cryptic steps, they find themselves pulled into an alternate reality, a realm where logic and physics no longer apply as they do in our world. This story will make you look over your shoulder and question what lurks beyond the static screen. Channel Infinity by Jett Cyber https://creepypasta.fandom.com/wiki/Channel_%E2%88%9E Then, we transition to a more introspective horror with "Nothing Helps". This narrative explores the life of a man known for his chronic procrastination. Tasked with a seemingly simple yet crucial assignment, his failure to act costs him dearly, leading to the loss of a unique part of his identity. It's a tale that serves as a grim reminder of the consequences of delaying the inevitable, wrapped in a mysterious ritualistic veneer. Pebbles might be a pro procrastinator. Youi be the judge.
In this episode, we dive deep into the topic of perfectionism and its relationship with procrastination. Here are three key takeaways from this thought-provoking episode: 1️⃣ Perfectionism can be both a friend and a foe: Perfectionism is not inherently bad. In fact, it can drive us to excel and go above and beyond. However, when perfectionism becomes an oppressive force, it can hold us back and prevent us from taking action. It's important to identify the areas of our lives where perfectionism serves us and where it hinders our progress. 2️⃣ Embrace the Land of And: The Land of And is a magical place where we can find balance between perfectionism and procrastination. It's the opposite of the Land of Or, where we are forced to choose between extremes. In the Land of And, we allow ourselves to have both perfect moments and moments of disappointment. By embracing this mindset, we can move forward with our ambitions while also giving ourselves grace and room for growth. 3️⃣ Give yourself permission to be human: Perfectionism often stems from a fear of making mistakes or not meeting our own high standards. But it's important to remember that we are only human, and it's okay to have flaws and make errors along the way. By letting go of the need for perfection, we can experience more joy, celebrate our wins, and continue moving forward even when things don't go as planned. With her expertise in the field, Melina explores the concept of Expect Error and how it plays a crucial role in understanding human behavior and designing effective nudges. By sharing personal experiences and real-life examples, she highlights the common errors we make in judgment and decision-making. From post-completion errors to forgetfulness, Melina demonstrates how anticipating these errors can lead to improved decision-making and behavior. Throughout the episode, she provides valuable insights and practical strategies for businesses and individuals to leverage the power of nudges and choice architecture. So, if you're interested in enhancing your decision-making skills and understanding the psychology behind our choices, this episode of The Brainy Business is a must-listen. Get ready to gain valuable knowledge and unlock the secrets to better decision-making! In this episode, you will: Understand the impact of errors in decision-making to improve your choices. Harness the power of choice architecture to shape your decisions and outcomes. Discover effective nudges that can influence behavior and guide decision-making. Enhance the effectiveness of nudges by incorporating sensory cues. Create consistency in your routines and habits to optimize your decision-making process. Show Notes: 00:00:00 - Introduction, Melina introduces the episode, which focuses on the E in Nudges - Expect Error. She explains that humans make errors in judgment and decision-making all the time, and emphasizes the importance of designing interventions to support behavior. 00:03:32 - Importance of Expecting Error Melina discusses the importance of expecting errors in decision-making and how it is the reason why nudges and choice architecture exist. She highlights that humans are not perfect, unlike the fictitious species of econs in traditional economic models, and provides examples of errors we can expect in everyday life. 00:07:53 - Post-completion Error Melina explains the concept of post-completion error, where we mentally check off a task as done even if it is only partially completed. She shares her personal example of forgetting to move the laundry from the washer to the dryer. Melina also mentions the importance of incorporating all the senses when designing nudges to prevent errors. 00:10:22 - Consistency and Medication Errors Melina discusses the importance of consistency in preventing errors, using the example of medication adherence. She explains how taking medication daily and at a consistent time can help reduce the likelihood of forgetting. Melina also mentions the use of placebo weeks in birth control pills and the recommendation to take weekly medication on Sundays. 00:15:22 - The Power of Strategic Foresight Strategic foresight allows businesses to anticipate and solve errors before they happen, creating a strong reputation for problem-solving and customer service. 00:16:44 - Empowering Employees to Make It Right Giving employees the authority to rectify mistakes on the spot, such as offering compensation or going above and beyond, creates a culture of exceptional customer service. 00:18:07 - Going Above and Beyond The Ritz Carlton is a prime example of a company that empowers its staff to do whatever it takes to make things right for customers, creating a sense of trust and loyalty. 00:20:36 - Anticipating Errors By understanding the busy and overwhelmed state of customers and staff, businesses can implement nudges to help prevent errors and alleviate stress. 00:23:34 - Adding Value to Processes By considering the needs and potential errors of customers and staff, businesses can enhance processes by adding helpful features, such as including batteries or recommended add-ons with products. 00:31:42 - Gmail's Nudge Feature Gmail's nudge feature helps users stay on top of their emails by putting important emails back at the top of the inbox after a few days of inactivity. This nudge includes a message in a different color text, like orange, that prompts the user to follow up on the email. 00:32:41 - Hot State and Cold State Understanding the concept of a hot state and a cold state is essential in behavioral economics. In a hot state, people are more likely to make impulsive decisions and struggle to stick to commitments they made in a cold state. Strategies like self-exclusion lists for gamblers and using Dysulfram for alcoholics can help individuals stay on track even when in a hot state. 00:34:14 - Precommitment and Save More Tomorrow Precommitment strategies, like the Save More Tomorrow program, can help individuals increase their commitment to certain behaviors. For example, asking individuals to commit a percentage of their future raises to go directly into their retirement savings has led to significant increases in contributions over time. 00:35:45 - Consistency and Staying Top of Mind Consistency is crucial in business to stay top of mind with customers. Drip campaigns and regular content updates, such as blogs, podcasts, and newsletters, help remind customers of their initial interest and keep the brand in their routine. 00:37:38 - Conclusion, Melina's top insights from the conversation.
