Hannah Berry is an award-winning graphic novelist, comics creator, writer, illustrator, editorial gun-for-hire and UK Comics Laureate 2019-21. In 2018 she was inducted as a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and became the slightly grander ‘Hannah Berry FRSL’. We chat to Hannah about her comics background, influences and discuss her classic and contemporary choices, as well as plenty of other things we got sidetracked with! In this episode I talk with Monty Nero. Monty has worked on games, comics, screenplays, radio plays, and novels – including Death Sentence London with Martin Simmonds for Titan Comics, The X-men and Hulk for Marvel, and Hollow Monsters, a creator-owned project, which was started on the Masters course at the University of Dundee. He also talks about his new project, Frenemies, which was co-created with Yishan Li.

In this episode, broadcast to coincide with the launch of the Dundee branch of Laydeez Do Comics (https://www.facebook.com/laydeezdocomicsdundee), I interviewed Nicola Streeten. Nicola is an anthropologist-turned-illustrator and comics scholar. She is the author of Billy, Me & You (Myriad, 2011), an acclaimed graphic memoir about her bereavement following the death of her two-year old son. It was initially serialised in Liquorice Magazine, a comic Nicola produced with her daughter, and it received Highly Commended in the Popular Medicine category of the 2012 British Medical Association Medical Book Awards. Nicola is also co-editor with Cath Tate of The Inking Woman, published by Myriad in March 2018.

In this episode I chat to David Robertson who runs Fred Egg Comics, and is a member of the 'That Comic Smell' podcast team. I also chat to Ian Wheeler, current Comic Scene writer, and the creator of the fondly regarded Eagle Flies Again fanzine. Ian has recently been published in Doctor Who Magazine, issue 536. Special guest starring Ian's cat!

This month I chat with John McShane*, a well known face in the Glasgow comics scene. John chats about his days running AKA Books and Comics in the 80's (an early haunt of Mark Millar and Grant Morrison!), The Bogie Man with John Wagner, Alan Grant and Robin Smith, how Toxic! came to be in the early 90's, SCAMM and much much more! *Warning: This podcast was recorded in a bar on Byres Road and may feature background noise and Glasgow patter.

This month I chat to David Sutherland, who has been drawing The Bash Street Kids in The Beano since 1962(!), as well as other comic strips such as Dennis the Menace, Biffo the Bear and many more! We cover David's career in this rare and amusing interview with the artist conducted earlier this year!

In this episode I talk to Barrie Tomlinson who was Group Editor at IPC and worked on titles such as Tiger, Roy of the Rovers, Eagle and Scream!. He also wrote extensively for the publisher (as D. Horton) on stories such as Death Wish, Survival and Dan Dare for Eagle, and latterly Scorer for the Daily Mirror.
