Dr. Dilip Joseph traveled to Afghanistan to serve others as a medical doctor. On December 5, 2012, everything changed when armed men surrounded his vehicle and kidnapped him.For four days, Dilip was held captive by the Taliban, uncertain whether he would ever see his family again. In the middle of fear, exhaustion, and the possibility of death, he began asking a different question: What is God doing here? That question changed the way he saw his captors, his circumstances, and his own faith. Then, on the fifth day, SEAL Team Six launched a daring rescue mission. Navy SEAL Nicholas Checque gave his life during the operation that brought Dilip home.In this powerful conversation, Dilip shares what happened during his captivity, the unexpected relationship he developed with one of his captors, the weight of knowing someone sacrificed his life to save him, and what the experience taught him about following Jesus when obedience is anything but comfortable.Obedience does not guarantee comfort. But even in the middle of our messiness, we can count on the presence of God.
Israeli activist and filmmaker Rudy Rochman joins Moshe Popack on Common Denominator for a wide-ranging conversation about Jewish identity, purpose, faith, communication, and the next chapter of Jewish history. Rudy explains why he prefers the word “activist” over “advocate,” arguing that meaningful change requires more than supporting a cause; it requires becoming an active participant in creating a new reality. He and Moshe explore how people can discover what they are here to do, why challenges can strengthen rather than derail a mission, and how conviction allows someone to continue even when they face criticism, division, or resistance.Rudy also shares his vision for reconnecting the dispersed tribes of Israel and explains why he believes the Jewish people cannot fulfill their collective purpose without recovering a shared mission.Timestamps2:06 Welcome 2:10 Activist vs. advocate: what's the real difference3:23 The individual and collective mission of the Jewish people5:32 What people get most wrong about him8:02 Growing up between France, Israel, and Miami11:39 Meaning, purpose, and the Kabbalah of chosen challenges13:58 Why people quit their mission, and how to keep going16:30 The neo-Nazi bus driver story that changed his life20:09 Reacting vs. observing: Moshe on Viktor Frankl21:14 How to actually communicate with people who disagree with you24:38 Kidnapped for three weeks filming the lost tribes of Israel in Nigeria31:25 Facing captivity and never losing faith he'd make it out33:53 Moshe on faith, his 11 kids, and Jensen Huang on suffering35:17 What reuniting the tribes of Israel could look like in 20 years38:02 Oneness, and Moshe's grandfather's deathbed lesson41:57 The common denominator of people who achieve great things44:49 Why the most public people are often the most introverted45:56 Rapid fire round46:58 The biggest obstacle to reuniting the tribes of Israel Like this episode? Detectives Terry Bruno and Jake Griffin think a man's story of an elaborate kidnapping is just a cover for the murder of his girlfriend. But when she turns up alive, rumors abound she staged the abduction "Gone Girl"-style. Captain Renee Curry and Sergeant Amanda Rollins arrest the ex-boyfriend who's been stalking her, but the complexities of the case make it hard for ADA Sonny Carisi to win at trial. Meanwhile, Captain Olivia Benson finds herself at loggerheads with new Chief Kathryn Tynan, who has a different view on what SVU should be doing and Benson's place in the NYPD. We're talking about Special Victims Unit season 27 episode 8 "Showdown." Our special guest is "The Glarer" Will Henry. This episode is inspired by the 2015 "Gone Girl" kidnapping. Send us Fan MailWelcome back to Japanese America! In Season 3, Episode 7, we step directly into one of the most monumental, legally complex, and deeply emotional chapters in our community's history: the fight for Japanese American Redress. While most people think of Redress in terms of the landmark Civil Liberties Act of 1988 and the 120,000 Japanese Americans forced into domestic concentration camps, there is a massive parallel story of international kidnapping and legal limbo that took decades to bring to light. In this episode, we explore the extraordinary narrative of Japanese Latin American (JLA) deportees. Through the rare, deeply personal oral histories of the three Naganuma Brothers—Jimmy, George Kazuharu, and Kazumu Julio Cesar—we trace a family's journey from a thriving life in Callao, Peru, to being abducted by the U.S. military, fumigated with DDT upon arrival in New Orleans, and incarcerated at the Department of Justice internment camp in Crystal City, Texas. We examine their multi-decade battle for basic legal status after being classified as "illegal entrants," and highlight the fierce advocacy of their sister Kiyo, whose bold confrontation with U.S. officials made her siblings some of the few Japanese Peruvians to receive the full $20,000 Redress settlement. Koji also shares his own personal connection to Crystal City, where his family was incarcerated after his grandfather gave up his citizenship, illustrating the diverse and irony-filled nature of that campLinks & Resources MentionedDiscover Nikkei & Densho Partnership: Listen to the full oral histories and read the complete transcripts for Jimmy Naganuma (https://ddr.densho.org/narrators/927/), George Naganuma (https://ddr.densho.org/narrators/928/), and Kazumu Julio Cesar Naganuma (https://ddr.densho.org/narrators/927/)Learn More: Visit the Japanese American National Museum (JANM.org) for exhibitions, history, and community resources.Follow & Support UsEnjoyed the episode? Your stylist accepted a new job. They weren't kidnapped. In this episode, I'm talking about one of the weirdest things we've normalized in the salon industry: treating hiring like stealing, recruiting like poaching, and quitting like a personal attack.Somewhere along the way, we stopped seeing career moves as a normal part of business and started treating them like betrayals. But what if we've been asking the wrong questions? What if your team doesn't belong to you? What if someone leaving your salon isn't a reflection of your leadership, but simply the next chapter in their career? In this episode, we're unpacking:Why the salon industry has made hiring so emotionalThe problem with calling recruitment "poaching"Why great leaders aren't afraid of people leavingHow to build a culture people choose—not one they feel trapped inThe mindset shift every salon owner needs to make about hiring, firing, and career transitionsIf this conversation makes you a little uncomfortable... good. That's usually where the growth starts.

Jonesy and Amanda are back with another thought-provoking, yet funny episode. We discuss the latest trends in technology, including the rise of Kmart "smart" glasses that can record and film people without their consent. We explore the implications of this and how it's affecting our society, making us question what it means to be in public and what we're comfortable with. But it's not all serious business - we also tackle some lighter topics, like the age-old debate about wearing jeans at home. We discuss the results of our whip poll, which reveals some surprising insights into what Australians think about this issue. If you're as curious as we are about the topics discussed in this episode, tune in to hear the full show.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Daily Soap Opera Spoilers by Soap Dirt (GH, Y&R, B&B, and DOOL)
Click to Subscribe: https://bit.ly/Youtube-Subscribe-SoapDirt Days of our Lives spoilers indicate a new mystery in Salem. Gwen Rizczech (Emily O'Brien), the latest character to be kidnapped, has everyone guessing who the perpetrator might be. Initially, EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) was the prime suspect, but his conversation with Rita Lesley (Maggie Carney) leaves us doubting his involvement. While EJ and Gwen have had their disagreements, his reaction to her disappearance seems genuinely surprised. DOOL spoilers indicate that another suspect is Rita herself, a loyal henchwoman of the DiMera family. She could have orchestrated the kidnapping to protect EJ from Gwen's plans. Alternatively, Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk), Gwen's ex-friend, might have had Gwen kidnapped due to their recent feud over Xander Cook (Paul Telfer). Spoilers for Days of our Lives hint that Dimitri von Leuschner DiMera (Peter Porte), Gwen's ex-husband, is also a potential suspect. He has a motive to seek revenge on Gwen for her part in his previous kidnapping and subsequent relationship troubles with Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart). Some DOOL fans speculate that Gwen's kidnapper might be Vivian Alamain (Louise Sorel), despite her supposed death. Vivian has faked her death before, and she and Gwen have a history of plotting together. She might have arranged Gwen's kidnapping to keep her silent about certain truths. Regardless of who the kidnapper is, we know that Leo will be determined to find his best friend. The Soap Dirt podcast has made the Top 100 List for Apple Podcasts in the Entertainment News Category. Yanni definitely explains why The Odyssey is so great… or at least tries to get there. He also argues that the people who hate capitalism today would have been protesting for it under feudalism. Along the way, he reacts to clips of AOC talking about democracy, breaks down Sneako's ever-changing pro wrestling personas, and discusses the conspiracy theories surrounding Charlie Kirk's assassination that have been promoted by Candace Owens. Treasure Island, Kidnapped, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and his wonderful short stories like Markheim, The Body Snatcher, and The Bottle Imp to name a few. Today we begin an episodic journey through the novel Catriona, published as David Balfour in the US. Though the name looks to be spelled Catriona, apparently it's correctly pronounced as Katrina. So that's what we'll do. This second volume of David Balfour's story is less a straightforward adventure story, and is more of a novel of manners with some adventure sprinkled in. To me it feels like a natural progression as the youth gets older, has more responsibility, and learns to make his way in the wider world of Scottish traditions. My favorite film adaptation is the Disney version with Peter Finch as Alan Breck Stuart, and features a young Peter O'Toole. That mixture of that sort of classic film acting and production combined with a classic story is uniquely satisfying to me. I hope you enjoy another healthy helping of David's adventures.
