Join Travis and Patrick as they dissect the questionable parenting decisions, the surprisingly effective Alan Grant survival tips, and the sheer absurdity of a talking raptor dream sequence. Was this a worthy sequel or a prehistoric misstep? We'll debate the dino-sized plot holes, the surprisingly engaging action, and whether Tea Leoni's screaming could shatter glass. We'll discuss the introduction of new dinosaurs, the pacing of the plot, and whether the film successfully captured the wonder and terror of its predecessors. Why do people keep going back to that island filled with dinosaurs? In the case of Jurassic Park 3 it's to a) save a missing boy and b) witness how much cleverer velociraptors have got. They can talk now! Set traps! And pretend to be statues! Not to be outdone by the newly introduced Spinosaurus which swallows a phone and proceeds to announce itself with a ringtone, like some monstrous version of Peter Pan's crocodile. Can the returning Sam Neill as Alan Grant prevent both this new gang of hapless humans from being eaten and also this movie from being rubbish? Let's find out!Join the Redshirt Cinema Club! This episode takes us across the pond to the UK where Mike was stationed for a few months. Naturally, he searched for comic shops almost immediately and found ACE Comics in Colchester, Essex. Inquiries were made and a quick train ride later Mike was at the shop on a beautiful Saturday afternoon for an interview with Martin Averre, AKA Biff. Biff has a deep history in the comics industry, particularly in the UK. He personally knows many of the great British creators, such as Alan Grant, John Wagner and Pat Mills. The building where the shop is located is centuries old and full of history. As one of the oldest comic shops in the UK, it is the perfect combination of historical landmark and a modern business. Wait until you hear about the unofficial British version of a comic book price guide that Biff published and on which Brian Bolland drew the cover! After the interview, Mike is joined by podcast fellow podcaster and comics fan, George Hanna to cover Flake, the debut graphic novel by Matthew Dooley. It's the winner of the 2020 Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize, the UK's only literary award for comic literature. George is one of the hosts of Meanwhile at the Podcast, a show that covers it all...pop culture, entertainment, fandom, you name it. ACE Comics has locations in Colchester and Southend-on-Sea and found online at https://acecomics.co.uk/. They also have a very active eBay store, so check it out! Be sure to follow ACE Comics on Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest. Connect with George at https://meanwhileatthepodcast.libsyn.com/ and follow the show on Facebook and the site formerly known as Twitter. Meanwhile at the Podcast can be found on Apple, Spotify or wherever you find your podcasts, so be sure to check it out. Big thanks to Biff for his interview and great book recommendation, and thanks to George for joining me. For more interviews at comics shops around the US and the world, subscribe to Mike's Comic Shop Roadshow wherever you listen to podcasts.

Do you remember that saying in Jurassic Park when Dr. Alan Grant said “just because you can, doesn't mean you should.” This has always stuck with me, and is even now more relevant in our digital society. Selección musical: 🎶 The Twelve Days of Yaksmas, de Ren & Stimpy's Crock O' Christmas 🎶 Ist friki morgen, de Kamino y Machete Monkey
There's nothing better than some delicious grubs to help feed your mind during a prehistoric podcast. Am I right?! Well maybe not, but Jurassic World is still known for the Nigersaurus & as Dr. Alan Grant once said some west African frogs. Our next dinosaur genus had a snout made up of 500 teeth. Its even been described as a mix between Darth Vader & a lawn mower. Regardless, it was definitely out of this yard for a sauropod. Let's begin our next review. Yum, yum!!

From the twisted mind of Casebook Walt! We're looking back to the early '90s and the heyday of American crime with a deep dive into "The Last Arkham," the terrific arc that introduced scarified serial killer Victor Szasz alongside a new version of Arkham Asylum. In the process, writer Alan Grant raises questions about the nature of power and madness that strike at the heart of what the Dark Knight, and his dark city, represent. We have a Patreon! This episode, we focus on one of Gatman's most gafflingly grazen gad guys, the Ventriloquist (and Scarface!) Who's really pulling the strings? Listen now to find out! Intro Reminder of PuchiCon appearance Background (3:00) Important to note that in this version, the dummy was made from wood used in Blackgate's old gallows, and there are conflicting reports whether the dummy is possessed or not Ventriloquist (Arnold Wesker) created by John Wagner, Alan Grant, and Norm Breyfogle in Detective Comics #583 (Feb. 1988) Arnold Wesker is a meek man from a mafia family – originally developed DID after witnessing his mother's murder His origin was later retconned – imprisoned in Blackgate prison, he begins hearing voices from a dummy named Woody, and the voices convince him to murder his cellmate – during the fight, Woody is damaged, and takes on the name Scarface In either version, Scarface becomes the controlling force, and Wesker is his “puppet” - to the point that Scarface becomes enraged if people insist on speaking to Wesker and not him One telltale sign is that Wesker/Scarface is unable to pronounce the letter B, replacing it with G - Batman becomes Gatman, bullets become gullets, etc. At one point Wesker was committed to Arkham Asylum, and upon escaping used a sock puppet named Socko - when Scarface learned he had been replaced, he and Socko had a gunfight, resulting in damage to Wesker's hands #BecauseComics After an earthquake nearly destroys Gotham, a new villain called the Quakemaster shows up demanding a ransom to prevent further earthquakes - Tim Drake is able to deduce it's Scarface because Quakemaster refuses to pronounce words with the letter B Has an on-again/off-again partnership with the Penguin, where they often break each other out of prison and work together on criminal enterprises Murdered by Tally Man in an effort to frame Harvey Dent Later resurrected during Blackest Night as a member of the Black Lantern Corps, and creates a construct of Scarface with his ring New 52 - he was never killed, and was hospitalized for treatment of his DID Briefly controlled by the Venom serum, but was taken down by Nightwing and Damian Wayne Succeeded as Ventriloquist by a woman named Shauna Belzer, who had her own puppet Ferdie He helped Batman defeat Psycho-Pirate, because his DID was able to override Pirate's emotion control powers since Scarface was really in charge Issues - the pawn who would be king (7:03) Dissociation, Depersonalization, and Derealization Subordination (14:03) Masochism (21:04) Break (26:01) Plugs for Popcorn Psychology, Ocho Duro Parlay Hour, and Phillip Kennedy Johnson Treatment (26:56) In-universe - introduce ways to take Scarface out of commission Out of universe - work on scaling down and away from coping mechanism (30:10) Skit (34:06) DOC: Hello Mr. Wesker, I'm Dr. Issues. SCARFACE: Nope, you're talking to ME, doc. Leave the dummy outta this. WESKER: W-w-well at least l-l-let me say h-h-hello f-first. SCARFACE: Shut yer yap and lemme do the talking. The less you talk, the faster we can greak outta here and get gack to gusiness. DOC: I love Vaudeville as much as anybody, but SCARFACE: *interrupting* that explains your practice DOC: Hey! This is a serious establishment. Are you going to talk to me or not? WESKER: I-I-I SCARFACE: Aye Aye Aye is right! Sheesh! You gonna take the hint, shrinkydink? This mug is useless without me. I'm the grains of this operation. That's how I keep making gread. DOC: *flustered* Fine. Tell me, what can I do for you? SCARFACE: Can you crack safes? DOC: No SCARFACE: Can you crack heads? DOC: NO! SCARFACE: Knockaround guy? Gagman? DOC: No and No SCARFACE: Is your office a good place to do laundry, if ya catch my drift? DOC: I'm not doing anything illegal for you! SCARFACE: Then you're a waste of space like this guy over here! DOC: He is the reason you can talk at all! SCARFACE: waaaaatch your mouth, you're on thin ice, capiche? DOC: Mr. Wesker, are you going to stand for this? SCARFACE: He doesn't have to, that's why he's sittin down. And you're gonna be layin down for a dirt nap if you don't keep your eyes on me! DOC: You don't have any weapons. That tommy gun is a toy. I'm not stupid. SCARFACE: My noggin is like taking a Louisville slugger to the jaw if you're unprepared. DOC: If you're so bright, have you figured out a way to resolve your anger without resorting to violence? SCARFACE: Resort? You darn right I resort. A hideout full of moola and the screams of my enemies make crime a vacation. DOC: Is that what Wesker wants? SCARFACE: Who cares what he wants? DOC: I do. And if this is you, Arnold, then I'm willing to work with you in this…unique arrangement. SCARFACE: I'm confused. Are you talking to me or to him? DOC: Yes. SCARFACE: *pause* Ooooh, you're a slick one, aintcha? Gut there's no one else you need to talk to. DOC: Thank goodness. So, I'll make sure I only direct my questions to you, and you'll answer, and I'll make sure it's documented in your chart, under your name. Just spell it for me so I get it right. SCARFACE: S-C-A DOC: A-R-N SCARFACE: *screaming* THIS AIN'T A JOKE! DOC: I'm not laughing. I'm talking to you. I'm looking at you. I know you run the show, and I'm giving you the attention you deserve. If the other part is not important according to you, fine. But I won't let your reality get in the way of mine. SCARFACE: YOU SICKO! Don't toy with my emotions. DOC: Don't use your emotions as toys WESKER: Please stop fighting DOC: who said that? SCARFACE: NOBODY! DUMMY, SHUT UP! WESKER: yes sir DOC: You seem to have an issue with a part of you that is intimidated. What do you plan to do to strengthen it? SCARFACE: I'm not weak; that loser DOC:*interrupting* You're a loser; got it. SCARFACE: I'm not here to be insulted! WESKER: You usually leave that to me DOC: Progress! Now if you could only get him to stop shoving his hand inside you to compensate, you wouldn't be so uptight SCARFACE: *pause* wait…are you actually trying to treat me here? DOC: It wasn't my first idea but if it's the only way I can ultimately give you some peace and have fewer people hurt, I'll make it work. SCARFACE: *exaggerated wistful sigh* Maybe I can finally get a world without Dummy. A mafioso can dream. DOC: Um…erm…something like that. Anyway, I noticed that I didn't get my usual fee before the session, so I'm going to have to bill you for the balance. SCARFACE: *deadpan* Oh…Dummy takes care of that WESKER: I DO NOT DOC: WHAT? SCARFACE: I MEANT THE CHECK'S IN THE MAIL. Now get me outta here before he makes me talk about my mother. *fake sob* I really miss her. DOC: Pining? SCARFACE: No, oak. Welcome back to another roaring episode of Bad Dads Film Review, where the stakes are high and the dinosaurs are... well, life-sized!Alright Dads, we're hopping in the time machine today, not to the era of neon shirts or cassette tapes, but much, much further. We're going to an island where the impossible becomes possible: the magical, the mythical, the legendary – Jurassic Park. You remember the first time you heard that resonant T-Rex roar, right? Or the shimmering ripples in the glass of water? Those Velociraptors in the kitchen? Spielberg didn't just serve us a film; he handed over a cinematic experience that has been etched into our minds forever. It's about more than just a bunch of dinos on the loose; it's a tale of ambition, nature vs. science, and, of course, the timeless lesson that just because we can doesn't mean we should. And let's take a moment for that iconic score by John Williams. Doesn't it give you chills every time? Whether it's the grandiose theme when we first see the park or the suspenseful tones during T-Rex's debut, the music is a character in itself. But, for all the cinematic majesty of "Jurassic Park", there are Dad moments too. Dr. Alan Grant's transformation from a dino-expert who's not too fond of kids, to a pseudo-dad who's quite literally holding their hands through the dangers of a dino-infested park? Heartwarming and utterly relatable! And, speaking of kids, remember trying to get them to watch this masterpiece? The mix of wonder and "Dad, why did they go into the park in the first place?" questions. It's a rite of passage in the Dad's movie handbook. So, grab your safari hat, maybe a flare or two (just in case), and join us on this prehistoric journey. Let's dive deep into "Jurassic Park", chat about our favorite scenes, the groundbreaking CGI, and why it remains a cinematic gem nearly 30 years later. Keep your arms and legs inside the vehicle and hold on tight; it's gonna be a wild ride here at Bad Dads Film Review!

(Original Airdate: January 12th, 2018) Jurassic Park III is a 2001 American science fiction action film[3] directed by Joe Johnston and written by Peter Buchman, Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor. It is the third installment in the Jurassic Park franchise and the final film in the original Jurassic Park trilogy, following The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997). It is also the first film in the franchise not to be directed by Steven Spielberg, as well as the first not to be based on a novel by Michael Crichton; however, the film features characters and ideas by Crichton. Sam Neill and Laura Dern reprise their roles from the first film. New cast members include William H. Macy, Téa Leoni, Alessandro Nivola, Trevor Morgan and Michael Jeter. The plot follows a divorced couple who deceive paleontologist Dr. Alan Grant into helping them find their son, who has gone missing on Isla Sorna. After the release of Spielberg's Jurassic Park, Joe Johnston expressed interest in directing a sequel, which Spielberg agreed to. Universal Pictures announced the third film in June 1998, with a release scheduled for mid-2000. A draft written by Buchman was rejected five weeks ahead of filming in favor of a simpler story idea suggested by David Koepp, the writer of the previous two films. Payne and Taylor were hired to rewrite the earlier script by Buchman, who made further revisions to their draft. Filming lasted five months, beginning in Hawaii in August 2000 before moving to California. A final draft of the script was never completed during production, a circumstance Johnston considered quitting over. Jurassic Park III features a combination of computer-generated and animatronic dinosaurs. A Spinosaurus replaces the Tyrannosaurus from previous films as the principle dinosaur antagonist. Jurassic Park III premiered on July 16, 2001, and was theatrically released on July 18. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, the film was successful at the box office, grossing $368 million worldwide to become the eighth highest-grossing film of 2001; however, it is the lowest-grossing installment in the franchise to date. In 2015, it was followed by Jurassic World, which started the Jurassic World sequel trilogy. Haiku-- "Dr. Alan Grant Talking Velociraptors William H. Macy." -MC

Life found a way – Script Apart is back! Season four begins with an episode 65 million years in the making, about a movie lauded as one of the greatest blockbusters of all time. Yes, today on the show, we're venturing into Jurassic Park, with the film's brilliant screenwriter, David Koepp, as our guide. The film follows palaeontologists Alan Grant (Sam Neill) and Ellie Sadler (Laura Dern) as they're invited alongside mathematician Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) to an island populated by living, breathing dinosaurs. These creatures have been cloned from DNA found in mosquitos by eccentric billionaire John Hammond, who insists this soon-to-open tourist attraction is perfectly safe. Famous last words. Our heroes soon find themselves pursued by prehistoric threats. At least, that's how the finished film goes down. Did you know in the first draft of the screenplay, there was no Ian Malcolm at all? In the conversation you're about to hear, David explains how the film originally had a different ending – in which Alan Grant starts blasting raptors with a shotgun – and different characters. We get into why Jurassic Park is essentially the ancient Greek myth Prometheus (with added pterodactyls), how David and Steven Spielberg modelled John Hammond on Walt Disney, and why the story is a fable about capitalism. After all, it's not the dinosaurs that doom the island to carnage – it's the greed of human characters, trying to make a buck. David is a storyteller who we're always overjoyed to chat with (you may remember listening to our conversation with the writer/director on Script Apart roughly a year ago, discussing another great movie of his, the original Tom Cruise Mission: Impossible). Elsewhere in his filmography are collaborations with David Fincher (Panic Room), Sam Raimi (2002's Spider-Man), Steven Sodeberg (Kimi) and Brian de Palma (Carlito's Way). His other collaborations with Spielberg include The Lost World, War of the Worlds and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. His latest novel Aurora is out this week on paperback, and a fantastic page-turner – be sure to pick up a copy.Script Apart is hosted by Al Horner and produced by Kamil Dymek. Jurassic Park is based on the 1993 film of the same name, in which paleontologist Dr. Alan Grant and others become trapped on an island theme park and zoo where genetically engineered dinosaurs have escaped. Playing as Grant, the player must rescue Lex and Tim, the grandchildren of the park's owner, John Hammond. The player begins the game near an overturned vehicle in the Tyrannosaurus paddock. The 90s sit-com Seinfeld is often called "a show about nothing." Lauded for its observational humor, this quick-witted show focussed on four hapless New Yorkers navigating work, relationships...yada yada yada.Jerry, George, Elaine & Kramer set themselves apart from the characters who populated shows like Friends or Cheers, by being the exact opposite of the characters audiences would normally root for. These four New Yorkers were overly analytical, calculating, and above all, selfish. In other words, they had all the makings of a fascinating case study in economics.Economics professors Linda Ghent and Alan Grant went so far as to write an entire book on the subject, Seinfeld & Economics. The book points readers to economic principles that appear throughout the show, ideas like economic utility, game theory, and the best way to allocate resources in the face of scarcity. On today's show, we make the case that Seinfeld is, at its heart, not a show about nothing, but a show about economics. And that understanding Seinfeld can change the way you understand economics itself. This episode was produced by Alyssa Jeong Perry with help from Emma Peaslee. It was edited by Keith Romer. Graeme McMillan and Jeff Lester complete Operation: Drokk with this, the fortieth and latest (and final for our purposes) volume of Judge Dredd The Complete Case Files Time for Total War as John Wagner and Henry Flint rewrite the map of MegaCity One with a megaprog that knocked our irradiated socks off! We also talk about strong work from Gordon Rennie this volume, a surprise from Alan Grant, and art from John Burns, Disraeli, Carl Critchlow, John Burns, John Burns and John Higgins. With only one episode of Drokk left, we are going out on a staggeringly high note! Slather on that sunscreen, put on your shades, grab your beach chair and your favorite comic book, as CGS embraces the season with some scorching comic book conversation! Ian, Shane, Chris and Murd go over the happening of this year's SDCC, including Marvel Studios' reveals for Phase Five and Phase Six, trailers for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Shazam 2 and Black Adam, and Dark Crisis' true nature being revealed. The geeks also discuss Batgirl getting shelved by WB and Hasbro's new toy releases, then converse on recent reads such a Chip Zdarsky's Public Domain, Amazing Spider-Man 900, Ian catching up on Saga, Murd's tribute to the late great Alan Grant via Detective Comics 608, the last fifteen issues of Justice League via Shane, and much more. Plus we play a listener voicemail, and a Muddle the Murd to cool us down. (2:39:00)
Jurassic Park III marked the end of the franchise for well over a decade. But boy did it attempt to go out with a bang with the return of both Sam Neil as Alan Grant and Laura Dern briefly as Ellie Sattler. Despite missing some of the key elements that made the first movie great it does introduce us to a new villain, the Kirby family. Oh and the Spinosaurus.
