Raising of Chicago: During the 1850s and 1860s, engineers carried out a piecemeal raising of the grade of central Chicago to lift the city out of its low-lying swampy ground. Buildings and sidewalks were physically raised on jackscrews. 1995-1997: The Freedom Fight (https://thankskenpenders.tumblr.com/readingorder)Albert Speer was a German architect who served as Minister of Armaments and War Production in Nazi Germany during most of World War II. After the war, Speer was among the 24 "major war criminals" charged by the International Military Tribunal for Nazi atrocities. Speer had carefully constructed an image of himself as an apolitical technocrat who deeply regretted having failed to discover the monstrous crimes of the Third Reich. He was found guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity, principally for the use of slave labor, narrowly avoiding a death sentence. Having served his full term, Speer was released in 1966.Archie Comics Sonic The Hedgehog #3000:00 Intro04:56 The Return of Uncle Chuck Part I21:15 The Return of Uncle Chuck Part II37:56 The Return of Uncle Chuck Part III57:07 Who Keeps Stealing My Chaos Emeralds ?!01:05:04 Outro-----Gotta Talk Fast is an oral review of Archie Comics' Sonic the Hedgehog. 178 - Josie & The Pussycats with Niall McGowan In this episode, we're strumming the power chords of early 2000s pop culture with the glittering, satirical cult classic Josie & The Pussycats! Joining us is none other than Niall McGowan, co-host of Bat Minute and a connoisseur of all things comic and cinematic. Together, we dive into the neon-drenched world of Josie, Melody, and Val as they rocket from small-town dreamers to unwitting pop pawns in a plot to brainwash teens. We explore the film's razor-sharp (and still shockingly relevant) commentary on consumerism, the music industry, and branding overload, all while appreciating the infectious soundtrack that still slaps today. Niall brings his signature wit and deep pop culture knowledge to unpack the film's surprising comic roots, its place in early-2000s cinema, and why Josie & The Pussycats deserves way more love than it got on its original release. So slap on your cat ears, crank up the volume, and join us as we celebrate one of the most delightfully subversive "bubblegum" movies ever made! Sabrina starts to go against the church and we start to see just how Catholic the whole witch society is. We discuss how men have assumed leadership in the Church of Night, the matriarchy of the Spellman household, our love of Ambrose, Prudence being the most savvy character so far, Daniel Webster attorney at law, and what led to the Spellman parents getting two conflicting baptisms. An interesting episode setup unfortunately doesn't mean a great episode and we both find the episodes a bit weak. We discuss the thin horror premises, guest start Tony Todd, bad depictions of gay romance, Alice stepping back into her snake skin, the infamous serpent dance & unpack what makes an interesting relationship conflict. Our amazing cover art is by vedrinic and you can follow them at https://vedrinic.tumblr.comEpisode 11 Content warnings: gun violence, death, murder, child abuse, emotional abuse, homophobia, sexual situations with teenagers, misogyny Theme song: "Beauty Flow" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Follow us on bluesky @dead-ends.bsky.socialSend your podcast or show questions to our inbox at deadendspcast@gmail.com.Find all of Emily's links here: https://linktr.ee/emilypyleFind all of Brenton's here: https://linktr.ee/brentonpyle

Heavy episode this week and a content warning up to that this episode has a fair bit of discussion about sexual assault. We discuss Nick St Clair, the background production for writing Cheryl's plotline, the episode coming out around the Harvey Weinstein allegations & writing well rounded women characters. There's also still plenty of fun as we talk through Alice stepping into her serpent past, the big drag race, Jughead's serpent initiation, Betty's serial killer trials & the weird moves they make with Toni.We also have a few tangents on the current season of the US version of the Traitors. Our amazing cover art is by vedrinic and you can follow them at https://vedrinic.tumblr.comEpisode 10 Content warnings: sexual assault, rape, date rape drugs, toxic masculinity, death, murder, physical abuse, emotional abuse, manipulation, drug useTheme song: "Beauty Flow" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Follow us on bluesky @dead-ends.bsky.socialSend your podcast or show questions to our inbox at deadendspcast@gmail.com.Find all of Emily's links here: https://linktr.ee/emilypyleFind all of Brenton's here: https://linktr.ee/brentonpyle
