On this episode of Manga Mavericks, Colton and Lum are joined by quite possibly their biggest guest yet! As they have the chance to sit down and chat with longtime translator of manga and video games, as well as the CEO of Irodori Comics himself, On Takahashi! Originally this interview was supposed to be an opportunity to discuss titles from the company's newest line of all ages doujinshi known as Irodori Aqua, but unfortunately, On spent most of our time talking about other amazing things, such as his unlikely journey in becoming a professional translator, as well as a breakdown on how much most manga artists typically make off of their work, and for that, we humbly apologize (lol)!! But seriously, we can't thank On enough for taking the time to come on our show and we hope have him on again in the future! Until then, please support Irodori Comics and their work, as well just your favorite artists in general in whatever way you can! Enjoy! Next time, we'll going over the results of our annual Manga Mavericks survey, as well as catching up on all the cool new manga that have started simulpubbing recently! Including the newest batch of Jump Starts, Kodansha's Ashidaka, and the newest Death Note one-shot! So be sure to look forward to it!! BIG NEWS! Because our Kenta Shinohara podcasts were delayed we didn’t get around to covering a lot of important news from the past couple months. To remedy that, we decided to record a big news-focused podcast to get everyone up to speed! …This was a big bad idea. We accumulated nearly twelve pages worth of news, tallying to over one hundred stories in total! To make matters worse, we began recording late at night after I was already exhausted from drawing for nearly 20 hours that day. Thanks to a spotty internet connection, we ended up needing two recording sessions and over four hours of rough audio to cover everything we wanted to. Needless to say, recording this was a tiring process. You can definitely hear the exhaustion in my voice by the end of this podcast, alongside Colton’s groans of impatience. Though frankly, listening back to this episode I did most of the talking, so it’s kinda funny that Colton was more vocally upset by the experience. ^^, Regardless of how frustrating the process was, this was a necessary podcast to make. Discussing manga news is the reason this show originally came into being, and doing a purely news-focused episode brings us nostalgically back to the roots of our early episodes. Did we go a little overboard in the mountain of content we attempted to surmount? Perhaps. But hopefully you’ll find this podcast as valuable as we found these stories important to discuss. From lists to licenses, endings to sequels, controversies to scandals, and adaptations to anime this podcast is jam-packed with all the stories you need to know to understand where the manga industry is at as of Spring 2018! New year, new podcast, and Al and Paul are back to discuss Marvel's announcements of Kelly Thompson's exclusive and Dan Slott's move, the new Domino and Exiles series, the return of the original Wolverine, John Nee replacing Dan Buckley and the wedding of Kitty Pryde and Colossus, as well as the Eisner Hall of Fame nominees, Promethea's appearance in Justice League and the stellar cast of creators on Action Comics 1000, along with reviews of Strangers In Paradise XXV and Avengers: No Surrender. The Official Handbook of the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe - 4 out of 5 dentists recommend it (and the fifth is more of a Who's Who person).
No time for niceties this week. We've got a lot to cover on today's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! So enough with the jibber jabber, let's write about what you are going to hear us talk about. John starts out with quick recaps from this week's episodes of Supergirl and The Flash. Bu we really want to talk about the awesomeness that is the CW's new super-hero hit, Black Lightning. You won't get any "Jive Turkeys" out of us, as we were all impressed with the quality and direction for the show. Let's hope this finds a regular spot in the already crowded CW line-up. We make our picks for next week's books - Marvel 2-in-One #2, Scooby-Doo Team-Up #34 and Abbott #1 make our list. But can you guess which podcaster chose which book? Next up we discuss the 2017 year-end numbers from Diamond. What were the best selling comic books and collected editions from the last year? Who was the top publisher of the year in terms of market share? We like to believe that we made some interesting observations along the way. Check out the lists below and let us know what you think. Single Issues Graphic Novels Publisher Market Share We also take some time to discuss the new Sanctuary project at DC Comics from writer Tom King, a look ahead to the 2018 Eisner Hall of Fame nominees, and listener feedback. We would love to hear your comments on the show. Let us know what you've been reading or watching this week. Contact us on our website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or by email. We want to hear from you! As always, we are the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! and we hope you enjoy the show. The Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER! is proudly sponsored by Clint’s Comics.
