Send me a DM! ILY All!Today I'm honored to introduce to you: Catholic church, Knights of St Columba, and organized ritual, systemic and secular abuse survivor and whistleblower, published author and writer, creator and first editor of long-running British comic 2000AD, devoted husband to his supportive wife Lisa, yogi, cycler, and table tennis player, blogger, and a hero on a mission to expose organized clerical abuse and neo-Masonic sexual abusive crimes of the Catholic laity: Patrick MillsPatrick is the son of a devout, pour, Catholic widow and became a target to his abuse from a young age. He was indentured into the Catholic Church - which is different than baptism - and was in his 40's when memories of sexual child abuse surfaced. These forms of abuse took three forms: The first was: Organized ritual abuse within the Church and through The Knights of St Columba - who are the British equivalent of the USA Knights of Columbus. This form of abuse had elements of satanic ritual abuse. The second form was ‘Organized systemic abuse' that occurred within the Church and the Catholic College he attended, and the third form was ‘Organized secular abuse'. These three forms of abuse overlapped throughout Patrick's childhood. When he recovered his memories in the 90s, the British False Memory Society was at its most powerful - copying the American equivalent which we all know of as the False Memory Syndrome Foundation. Both foundations are now allegedly defunct. It was only when Patrick discovered the proven cases of recovered memory in the United States - such as the famous Frank Fitzpatrick vs Father James Porter case - that he realized his memories were valid.Patrick believes Catholic Canon Law is the likely cause of Catholic child sexual abuse as it provides a license to abuse. Patrick has been offered apologies from the Church, the Knights, and a national investigation from his old College. His research has led him to find through academic studies that clerical abuse is transgenerational and is likely to still be current. He believes the Church is operating a damage limitation exercise, acknowledging - but not pursuing - the crimes involved. Patrick is also the creator and first editor of the long-running British comic 2000AD and developed Judge Dredd - which has been made into two movies. Key graphic novels he has written include the internationally acclaimed, anti-war series “Charley's War”, exposing the real truth about the First World War, “Nemesis” - a science fiction, futuristic critique of the Catholic Church, “Slaine” – about the High King of Ireland and celebrating a victory of the matriarchy over the patriarchy, and “Third World War” – about how multinational food companies oppress the people of South America. His other writing credits include “Marshal Law” (used in Marvel and D.C. Comics), which is an extremely hostile look at super heroes, “Accident Man”, about a deep state assassin, made into two movies starring Scott Adkins, “Requiem Vampire Knight” – which is a 12 volume series about famous people sent to Hell, and “Batman Book of Shadow”. Patrick's story, “The Star Beast” was also adapted as the anniversary celebration story and first episode of the recent relaunch of the Doctor Who TV series, starring David Tennant.Patrick also has a blog that has resulted in the sacking of the head of a religious teaching order - which is the equivalent of an arch bishop here in the US, the recent arrest of one of his Catholic abusers at the age of 90, apologies on the table for three dead abuser Catholic priests, apology for the crimes of the Knights of St Columba, and a national investigation into the crimes of a religious teaching order at his old college.CONNECT WITH PATSupport the show

Non-experts (Andy, Kevin, and Phil) talk about comics they are non-experts on and are all kinds of awkward on this road to the momentous episode 500 and find themselves in a 2000 AD mega block. The Whirlwind tears into Comixology. More Uniformed discussion about British Comics with equally clueless allusions to Japanese comics. How is the First World War represented in British comics? In 1979 the Battle launched a new strip, Charley's War. The story followed boy soldier Charley Bourne, who fought his way through the Battle of the Somme in 1916 and ended up in Russia in 1919. Written by Pat Mills, it was inspired by the film Oh! What a lovely war. The aim of the strip was not to glorify the conflict but to encourage the reader to re-evaluate their preconceptions of the First World War. At the time of publication, what made this unusual was it went against the standard preconceived historical storylines in other comic strips, which worked to normalise war and elevate the central character to the status of a hero. Angus enthusiastically read them at the time, Chris and Jessica are much more recent consumers of Charley's War. The Sword Guy Podcast episode 79 This episode is with Jason Kingsley OBE, co-founder and CEO of the games company Rebellion Developments, which also owns 2000 AD. And he's the man behind the YouTube channel Modern History TV starring his horse Warlord, which goes into depth and detail regarding many aspects of medieval life, most notably combat and horsemanship, but also aspects of daily life. We talk about misconceptions people have about medieval warfare, life, and horsemanship, and how Jason busts some of the myths on Modern History TV. We also chat about how Jason came to start a videogames company, create a YouTube channel and his role as the owner/custodian of 2000AD and the Treasury of British Comics. Note: It was in Ewart Oakeshott's book, European Weapons and Armour: From the Renaissance to the Industrial Revolution, that he discusses how appalling it seemed when one side started shooting with actual guns, because if that was the case, war could become really dangerous. I'm over the moon to get my friend and British comics hero Jamie McKelvie on this episode of The OCD Chronicles. It certainly took some tooing and froing - but I do think it was more than worth the wait. As well as being the man responsible for Captain Marvel's current cool as anything suit, and, with his key writing partner Kieron Gillen, a string of brilliant comics series, Jamie was recently diagnosed with ADHD. I've long thought that OCD and ADHD were shitty bedfellows. Very different conditions, very similar consequences for a person's life – especially when diagnosed in adulthood. Here we have a conversation about how we're both trying to adapt, process and live with our respective diagnosis's.Want more? We continue our special run of episodes recorded at San Diego Comic Con 2018 with a recording of the 'The Treasury of British Comics: Can A Forgotten Archive Teach Us About Comics In The 21st Century?' panel from the Thursday of this year's show. They've influenced some of comics' biggest names, but you've probably never heard of them; this is the hidden history of what was one of the biggest comics industries in the world. From The Leopard from Lime Street to Whizzer and Chips, from horror comics aimed at young girls to warped humor comics for preteens, these weekly anthologies were a unique influence on some of the biggest names in comics and, with their weekly format and cross-genre mashups, form the missing link between American comics, European comics, and manga. Discover the untold story of British comics with moderator Michael Molcher and guests Rosie Knight (Nerdist) Ben Smith (head of books and comic books for Rebellion), Jack Davisson (translator: Devilman & Showa: A History of Japan) and Graeme McMillan (The Hollywood Reporter). In an episode that didn't turn out so micro after all, Mr Jim Moon takes a look at the latest addition to Rebellion's treasury of British Comics range - Faceache Vol. 1 - The First 100 Scrunges, a glorious tome collecting the gleefully gruesome adventures of the boy with the bendable bonce as chronicled by the great Ken Reid.
A year after the launch of 2000 AD in 1977, publishers IPC decided to cash in on its success with a new stablemate - Starlord! With longer stories, better paper, and more colour, Starlord blazed into the firmament with its own eponymous editor as well as all-new stories such as Strontium Dog, Ro-Busters, and Mind Wars! But it was not to be, and after just 22 issues it was decided to merge the title into 2000 AD - a decision that arguably saved the older title as well as giving it two of its most popular ever strips. In a round table discussion to mark the forthcoming 40th anniversary of the launch of Starlord - as well as a special tribute in this year's Christmas Prog - 2000 AD editor Matt Smith and Treasury of British Comics editor Keith Richardson join 2000 AD PR droid Molch-R in the podcast sub-basement along with comics editor and journalist John Freeman to talk about Starlord's short existence, its impact at the time, and its on-going legacy for 2000 AD. Marney the Fox is the next collection from The Treasury of British Comics imprint and on this week's podcast we take a trip into the countryside with artist John Stokes. Appearing in Buster weekly from June 1974 to September 1976, this Watership Down-style tale followed a lone fox cub’s desperate struggle to survive in a dangerous world. Written by the late Scott Goodall, the series was lavishly illustrated by Stokes, whose remarkable career has seen him go from uncredited work on British children's weekly comics to inking Grant Morrison's The Invisibles. His story is one of changing times and a changing industry, but throughout his work has retained its old school charm and solid workmanship. In this episode, John talks about his childhood amidst the riots in pre-partition India to living on a houseboat to his parallel career creating sets for theatrical productions.
