Two ladies (both moms, avid readers & educators) discussing recent events and finding things to make us feel "cozy in the chaos" of the world. Be it books, DIYs, TV shows, Cooking, or Games - join us every week as we find comfort in the escape.
I don't even know what to say, except, hi. We back! Thanks for patiently waiting. This episode is just a dump of the past month's goings-on. It's been a lot, but we're getting back on track.
We all love to hate someone fictional, yeah? This week we are getting fired up chatting about our top 5 fictional fiends. These characters range from redeemable villains to pure hatred -- there's even a pick that you wouldn't expect. Please enjoy this mini episode all about the best of the worst.
The main characters of our favorite stories may be the reason the story carries on, but there's usually someone waiting in the wings. That friend, sidekick, voice of reason that helps the main character complete their arc. So that's what we're chatting about in this mini episode: our top 5 fictional friends who the protagonists would be lost without.
This episode is another reflective jaunt into our past and present selves. Join us as we chat about 3 activities we never thought we'd abandon, and 3 that we never expected to dive headfirst into. It's the level of chatty and introspection that you have come to like and expect from us.
You know none of us like it when people be playin games, but when that game involves a table top, some dice or cards, and good company we are all in! This week we are diving deep into games and the comforting aspects of quality company.
We've got a simple episode for you this week. We're checking in with our second quarter reading goals, talking about the savory bits of summer, and enticing you with a couple of selfish comforts. (Also, anyone else like that baseball reference in the title? No? Just me. Okay.)
We have dads, uncles, big brothers, and even teachers who step in and take the place of father figure in our life. And since we could easily talk about our own fathers all day, this episode is keeping it neutral and discussing 5 fictional fathers (or father figures) that are worth gushing about.
Again? You're watching/reading/listening to/doing that again?! Well, heck yeah we are. This week's episode is all about things we could (and will continue to) keep doing. We've got 5 categories and plenty of complaints about the weather. So, grab a cool beverage and turn the volume up.
10 years ago we were very different people. For starters, we didn't even know each other. All we knew was the angst and struggles of new adulthood. On this episode we reflect and talk at our past selves. Most importantly, though, we realize that we must be grateful for all the people we have been before.
Reaching back to those summer reading programs of yore, we have created a summer reading challenge for all of you! Please listen along as we reveal each category and give you the title of the book we will be reading for each.
Summer is so close we can almost taste...or, we would be able to taste it if our allergies weren't so awful. This week we are talking about future plans and sizzling about all the things we are ready to leave behind.
I write, you write : we all got something to say, right? This week's episode is about that creative endeavor know as the penned word. Courtny and Kathryn are talking about our own inspirations and the stories our minds are holding onto.
Ice cream or cake? Street fairs or the circus? We all have preferences, and we all make choices. What choices do you make? This week we are choosing from 21 rapid-fire categories asking "this or that." Join us, and then go this-or-that to some people you like.
Mom, Momma, Ma, Mother...we've all got a mother figure in our life. And, lucky for us, they exist in the fictional world too. So instead of gushing about our personal moms, we decided to chat about those lovely ladies from fiction that are noteworthy women and exceptional moms.
The wand, errr, the book chooses the reader, listeners. You're in your library, a book store, or a room of reading materials. You look around and begin choosing what you'll read next. Now the only question is, why did you choose it? That's what we're chatting about this week: some of the factors that influence us to nab our next great read.
You ever start something and then a kid comes into the room needing a snack for the 100th time that day, and suddenly your quiet hobby time is lost? If you answered yes, it's probably because you are a parent or caregiver of some kind and are always putting another's needs before your own. Us too. And that's what we are digging deep into this week: how to pursue creative endeavors while caring for dependents.
We love the book related zones of our podcast, but it's also important that you know who is pushing these books on you, yeah? No? Well, either way, that's what this week's episode is giving you: a 10 question chat session, giving you deeper insight into our sense of self.
So we all have our favorite stories, and sometimes movie studios steal those stories for the big screen. We hold our breath. We anticipate the actualization of those characters, moments, and far off places. Then premier day comes and we sit down with our popcorn and hopes, completely at the mercy of a director and some screen writers. Do we feel despair at the adaptation of our beloved tales? Or are we elated? Listen this week to find out.
Welp, we are almost done with the first quarter of the year! Not sure how that's possible? Yeah, us too. With these first 3 months behind us, we thought it would be a good time to check in and discuss those books on our TBR for the second quarter of the year. We also talk a lot about dirt this week, and not the kind you're thinking (wink, wink, nudge, nudge).
Small or large, size doesn't matter, we just wanna know: what does your personal book library look like? This week we are discussing the physical trends in our collections. Colors, size, and editions are just a few of the points we touch on as we chat about what our bookshelves are covered in. Warning: this episode may cause you to over analyze your personal tastes (which is actually fun, sometimes).
This week are diving deep into all the things that we can, and cannot stand, to buy used or new. We touch on thrift stores and responsible consumerism. So, ya know, we go a little all over the topic map. Per usual. We hope you enjoy and consider your own purchasing power.
Welcome to March, and to Women's History Month. We are so grateful to be discussing the women, ladies, and girls who have had (and continue to have) a profound influence on our lives. You don't have to be a feminist to enjoy this episode. Just a couple of gals talking about our fictional, famous, and real-life pals.
Books that make you hmmmm... (cue 90s music). Well, maybe not as sultry as that hip-hop classic, but we are talking about those books that were so good they deserve a second look. We also mention a few books we wish we could reread & experience like it was the first time. Rereads! It’s what we’re gabbing about this week.
While you may not be experiencing a true lock-up this week, we know you can still relate to that feeling of being stuck inside. Though snow-days and extra time at home can bring productivity and comfort, it can also cause you to go stir-crazy. This week's episode explores the activities we choose to comfort ourselves during these times, as well as the things we still long for.
You ever felt bad about something you liked a whole lot? Get a little blush when someone says, "you like that?" Yeah. Us too. That's what we're talking about this week: guilty pleasures and shameful obsessions. Don't worry, we're not here to make anyone feel bad about it. Just here to offer support, and comfort.
So first off, we will tell you what "bookish peer pressure" is. Meaning, if you looked at that title and said huh, then we will fill in that confusion. We are discussing the good, annoying, and heated sides of reading what others tell us to read. If you have ever felt pressured by another reader, have a seat and grab your favorite beverage while you listen.
This week we dive deep into the world of Dungeons and Dragons (D&D). We have done our best to give you some background information on the terminology and specifics, but we will get more detailed with that part on the blog. In this episode we instead focus on the cozy, comforting aspects of the game, which is why we're here. Ya know?
Courtny's family has suffered a loss, and to respect their process we will not have any new content this week. Thanks in advance for your comforting thoughts and understanding. We look forward to invading your earspace next week!
Join us as we recap the week, which of course involves us dipping briefly into politics. In this episode we are discussing our youthful and adult perspectives on social media. We talk about the platforms that introduced to this messy world, then we get into how we handle it as adults. Fair warning: we are not holding back our opinions on the dark side of social media. There's also, of course, a chit chat about books, music, and what made us feel cozy this week.
In this second episode, (yes we really are trying to make a habit of annoying you) we are discussing how our past week has progressed and what brought us comfort. In addition to these personal insights, we're sharing our top 5 TBRs and the cozy hobbies we hope to dive deeper into this year. And, as always, there are some comforting recommendations for you at the end. Thanks in advance for listening.
As we said in the intro, we are two moms who love to read, craft, and find comforts to help us recuperate from the strains of everyday life with our families, and as being members of the human race. In this FIRST episode of our NEW podcast, we (Courtny and Kathryn) discuss the main thing that got us through 2020: reading. Specifically, we chat about our personal top 10 reads from the year. We chose of variety of books for our lists. Hopefully you'll hear a lovely smattering of options that you may decide to add to your personal 2021 TBR list. Of course there were other aspects of the year, other hobbies and such, that helped us push through. However, it was the books that ultimately drug us out of the darkest depths of this year. We are confident that our listeners can relate to our search for an escape.
