In honor of Women's History Month, we're rereleasing some of our favorite episodes of About A Girl. A songwriter and singer so erotic, raw, and ahead of her time that no one was ready for her. An earthquaking icon of feminism and Black power during a time when it was unheard of for a woman, let alone a Black woman, to own her sexuality so explicitly. Betty Davis pushed her legendary husband out of cool jazz and up to the cutting edge, before divorcing him and releasing three of the most unexpected and astonishing albums of the 1970s. Then she disappeared. Sources for this episode can be found on our website. We're continuing our celebration of Women's History Month by talking about final girls. You know the one, the virginal brunette that had her suspicions from the beginning. The one who saw all her friends get killed before her. The one who makes it to the end of the movie, face to face with the killer, and lives to tell the tale. We cover how this trope from 70's slasher movies has grown into basically its own genre today. Show: Murder MapsEpisode: Mary Ann CottonMarch is here, Bitches! It's Women's History Month!! We better enjoy this month while we have it. So here it is, episode 1 of our month long series on female killers. Jolly Old England was really shitty and hardly jolly. At least all husbands of Mary Ann Cotton must have felt this way. In 1873 she was hung in such a horrific fashion , you could almost feel bad for her. Then, of course, you need to realize she killed a hell of a lot of children, husbands and mothers, mostly all her own!! This tale of Mary Ann Cotton is a story of the times. Illness, death, horrific living and working conditions were part of a normal everyday experience for most people. It was a breeding ground for sociopaths and serial killers. Mary Ann stood out among the worst. Her rough and terrible childhood created a monster. Milly, Alise, and Amanda take a step back from daily news to discuss some timely themes related to women's history month. Their conversation focuses on the stereotype that women are the more “emotional” actors and contrast this with… all the chaos men are inflicting upon the world. They share how being perceived as overly emotional has impacted their careers so far, and but also how it's shaped them in ways they don't regret.
It's Women's History Month and Dr. Anita is celebrating the revolutionary power of women with four history-makers who inspire her. First up is Arian Simone. As an entrepreneur, philanthropist, best-selling author, and Co-Founder and CEO of the Fearless Fund --the First Venture Capital Fund built by women of color for women of color-- she personifies the power of purpose. Her journey from business owner to homelessness to corporate boardrooms illuminates the potency of faith, hard work and forgiveness. We may not all be entrepreneurs, but we are all in the business of surrendering to our divine purpose. That business always turns a profit!
March is a celebration of International Women and the contribution women have made historically. As we are making greater gains, women now earn 82 cents to the man's dollar, we have our first Vice President, we still have a long way to go. In today's episode Michelle speaks with entrepreneur coach and Tony Robbin's Impact Coach Tonya Davis.

This week we close out Black History Month and transition into Women's History Month but first we have some things we'd like to discuss. Will DC finally apologize to Ray Fisher? If not, we welcome him to the Marvel universe there's so many characters to choose from! Speaking of DC, the cover of Entertainment Weekly has us all thirsting over Zoe Kravitz and Robert Pattinson as Catwoman and Batman for The Batman. Do we have a new couple on the horizon? Todrick Hall has been at the forefront of content creation on youtube and recently joined Big Brother but maybe we have to side eye our heroes once again. We have good news about LGBTQIA+ representation! Will this last or is it a trend? Speaking of trends In the main korner Mackenzie talks about her love and hate of the Star Wars fandom and why we need to stop with the gatekeeping. And we have tips on how you can help fight the Anti Trans laws in Texas. Happy Women's History Month film buds,This week we begin our new theme, Women in Film, to commemorate and celebrate the fantastic achievements of women in the film industry. Despite the growth in diversity both in front and behind the camera, there's still more that can be done. We want to help elevate the impact women have on the industry by highlighting films old and new that were directed by women. And we're starting with two films from last year.Jane Campion's The Power of the Dog, based on a Thomas Savage novel of the same name, is a simmering Western of taut tension. The film has been been garnering critical acclaim and racking up award nominations and wins for its cast and its director. We'll look at the themes the movie plays with, Revisionist Westerns, and the director herself, Jane Campion. Our second film travels overseas to Julia Ducournau's decidedly French film Titane. We discussed the film briefly last week, but we couldn't stop thinking about it. So now, we're going to talk about it more. It is a sort of fantasy film, dabbling faintly in magical realism in a way unlike most anything else out there. It is an effective body-horror story that uses the body for a discussion on sex, relationships, and much more.As another part of our celebration, we'll also be releasing a personal piece written by Friend of the Show Madelaine Davis. Titled "The Women on Screen, the Woman in the Mirror", Madelaine talks about what representation meant and means to her and all women identifying people. It was originally part of our newsletter, but we decide to share it with y'all this Saturday. Beyond our reviews we also talk about the Oscars, 20th Century Studios new release schedule, What We're Watching, and more. As always, don't forget to check out last week's episode. Last, be sure to check out thefilmbuds.com on March 7 for Paul's written review of the upcoming horror film The Seed. Thanks y'allThe BudsEpisode GuideIntro & Women's History Month - 00:00The Power of the Dog Clip - 10:41The Power of the Dog Review - 11:10Titane Review - 47:18What We're Watching, the Oscars, 20th Century Studios and Disney +, and more - 01:17:15Total Runtime - 01:45:52Be a Friend to the Film Buds:thefilmbuds.comthefilmbudspodcast@gmail.compatreon.com/thebudsthefilmbuds.bandcamp.com@filmbuds on Twitter@thefilmbudspodcast on InstagramPaul's Letterboxd

We just finished an incredible Black History Month, but... the Black celebration ain't over. Why so? Now, it's Women's History Month, and I'm excited to celebrate Black women with today's show. Having to deal with racism and sexism all at the same time is far from easy. A black woman will be discriminated against for being black and for being a woman, even though she exists in both identities at all times. Despite the challenges and obstacles in our paths, we have accomplished so much and continue to make remarkable strides. We are business owners, highly educated, ambitious, and most importantly, dope. Check out the full session notes: www.evehudsonphd.com/208. We are kicking off Women's History Month with Mary Powell, the Chief Executive Officer of Sunrun, the Nation's leading home solar, battery storage, and energy services company. You may also recall that Mary served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Green Mountain Power Corporation (2008-2019), an electric services company that serves 75 percent of the State of Vermont's residential and business customers. During her tenure, Mary delivered on an ambitious energy vision to provide low-carbon, low-cost and highly reliable power to Vermont residents, and positioned the company as a leading energy transformation business. She is a force within the industry and I am honored to have her featured as our 450th Podcast Episode Guest! This episode captures our enlivening discussion as we cover her path from a very art-inspired family background where she admittedly, “did not grow up with any orientation towards business nor towards the world of energy,” to coming into her own as an executive in a male-dominated industry. And even after serving for more than a decade with Green Mountain Power Corporation (which easily could have been the only story of Mary's career path) she accepted a role with SunRun where she presently works. These experiences, as an executive of both a Utility and now a Distributed Energy Company have given her the proper vantage point to discern the obstacles to the energy transition and sustainable future we are all working towards. So tune in to hear about: Her strategy to transform the orientation towards an energy future while lowering bills. Her mindset navigating as a woman and becoming comfortable being an outlier and how that propelled her into her own truth Her focus around serving customers and its two-fold benefit to both the company and the business. You'll hear all this and more on today's podcast episode so be sure to tune in! President Joe Biden began his State of the Union address recognizing the courage of Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the bravery of the Ukrainian people as Russia's invasion advances.Congressional Democrats and Republicans applauded Tuesday night as they stood to show solidarity with the citizens of Ukraine. The unity did not last for long, however. As Biden continued his speech, it appeared as though he was working his way through a far-left checklist. “The onslaught of state laws targeting transgender Americans and their families is wrong,” Biden said, presumably referring to state laws intended to prevent men from competing on women's sports teams. In 2021, 37 states introduced bills to prohibit biological males from competing in girls or women's sports. Nine states passed such legislation, including Idaho, Montana, Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Florida.Biden also said that to move forward in America, we must protect "access to health care" and abortion rights. But abortion is not health care, and does not advance the American values of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” The Daily Signal fact-checked many of Biden's claims and noted some of his blunders. Today, on the "Problematic Women" podcast, we give a full rundown of the best and worst moments of Biden's speech. Also on today's show, we share an update on the situation in Ukraine. Plus, it's Women's History Month and we're celebrating by honoring two of the women who have played a significant role in our lives. And as always, we'll crown our Problematic Woman of the Week.Enjoy the show! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
March is Women's History Month and we will be featuring some outstanding female FOMO Sapiens on the podcast all month long for a special break between seasons. Kelsey Ramsden has taken her over 15 years of expertise funding, scaling, and operating businesses across Canada and the Caribbean and applied it to her innovative new company, Mind Cure Health, which aims to change the way we understand, apply, and optimize psychedelic and digital therapeutics. Kelsey explains how her own personal experience with psychedelics in a clinical setting helped her overcome the challenges that plagued her throughout her life, baseless feelings of never being enough or the unnecessary compulsion to over-justify herself and her ideas. Inspired by her own personal improvement, Kelsey no longer felt the need to prove herself to others or be held to some imaginary unattainable standard but rather set out to help provide access to this alternative treatment to the world. Facing not only cultural but legal and regulatory challenges, Kelsey explains how her company promotes long-term healing while providing vital resources for researchers, clinicians, and patients alike.
