There's been another MURDER in the 3rd editor Susan Ryeland / detective Atticus Pünd novel MARBLE HALL MURDERS. This week we tackle pages 200-407! Let's Solve the whodunnits within this fun book! Alan Conway is dead - long live Atticus Pünd who's brought back from the fictional dead as a continuation novel by failed author Eliot Crace, the grandson of famed deceased children's author, Miriam Crace. Susan needs work, so she's drafted to help the washed out Eliot turn his manuscript into a worthy entry in the Atticus Pund series. As Susan delves into the manuscript, she discovers uncanny parallels between the fictional world and real-life Crace family secrets. This meta spin on a Golden Age Murder Mystery features several fair play puzzles that we can solve! Who killed Lady Margaret Chalfont? Was she poisoned? How? Why? "Marble Hall Murders (Susan Ryeland #3)" is a novel by Anthony Horowitz, the third book in the Susan Ryeland series, featuring the character who edits the fictional detective Atticus Pünd. In this installment, Susan Ryeland is tasked with editing a continuation novel titled "Pünd's Last Case" written by Eliot Crace, who is also the grandson of a deceased children's author. Eliot believes his grandmother was murdered, and he's hidden clues about her death within his novel. As Susan delves into the manuscript, she discovers uncanny parallels between the fictional world and real-life Crace family secrets, ultimately leading her to become a target. Editor Susan Ryeland has left her Greek island, her hotel, and her Greek boyfriend Andreas in search of a new life back in England. Freelancing for Causton Books, she's working on the manuscript of a novel, Pund's Last Case, by a young author named Eliot Crace, a continuation of the popular Alan Conway series. Susan is surprised to learn that Eliot is the grandson of legendary children's author Marian Crace, who died some fifteen years ago—murdered, Elliot insists, by poison. As Susan begins to read the manuscript's opening chapters, the skeptical editor is relieved to find that Pund's Last Case is actually very good. Set in the South of France, it revolves around the mysterious death of Lady Margaret Chalfont, who, though mortally ill, is poisoned—perhaps by a member of her own family. But who did it? And why?

This week, our host Iain Luke Jones peels back the layers of his writing journey, taking a pause from improv to shine a light on another major passion in his life. Ever wondered what the process of getting a book published really looks like? Then this is the episode for you. Iain shares the highs, lows, rewrites, rejections, and little victories that shaped his path from idea to publication. Hopefully, his journey will help steer you toward your own. So now it's time to sit back, relax, and enjoy Iain's true story of making stuff up — and then writing it down, editing it (a lot), and finally bringing it to life.

As we bask in the wake of completing the Wake, Toby and TJ welcome renowned author, librarian, academic, and bookfluencer George Koors to discuss how to get into the Wake, as well as what to do after it's done. We discuss the benefits and risks of BookTok, Bookstagram, and BookTube, the egalitarian nature of Joyce ensuring that through complexity all readers are rendered the same, and consider the dangers of placing beloved texts on syllabi. We discuss Taylor Swift, Ben Jonson, and Fyodor Dostoevsky, and George hits us with two monumental recommendations that will rattle your brain and strain at your wallet. To top it all, we get the world exclusive scoop on TJ's new play, learn the term "typoglycemia" and consider the weight we can place on art that survives time. She also read THE EXTENDED MIND: The Power of Thinking Outside the Brain by Annie Murphy Paul, and devoured WOMAN, EATING: A Literary Vampire Novel by Claire Kohda. Emily read two novels that have an unexpected connection, MURDER UNDER HER SKIN: A Pentecost and Parker Mystery by Stephen Spotswood and THE GHOSTWRITER by Julia Clark. She also read two less murdery novels, TELL ME EVERYTHING by Elizabeth Strout and TILDA IS VISIBLE by Jane Tara. One of these she loved and the other was a bit of a departure for a well-loved writer. We discuss the third short ghost story – “The Haunted and the Haunters; Or, The House and the Brain by Edward Bulwer Lytton – in THE PENGUIN BOOK OF GHOST STORIES: From Elizabeth Gaskell to Ambrose Bierce. This one didn't grab us like the last one (pun intended) but we can see how it contributes to the haunted house tradition. In Biblio Adventures, Chris made a guest appearance on Shawn Breathes Books where they discussed FINGERSMITH by Sarah Waters; it is ready for viewing on his BookTube channel. Emily was in Colorado visiting new grandbaby #2, and got to visit two local bookstores: White River Books in Carbondale and Alpenglow Books and Gifts in Glenwood Springs. During a long layover in O'Hare, she also visited several Barbara's Bookstores in the airport. As always, there is more in this episode than we can highlight here, like upcoming reads and jaunts (e.g., THE CAT'S MEOW: How Cats Evolved from the Savanna to Your Sofa by Jonathan Losos, All CT Reads with author Monica Wood, and the Willa Cather Spring Conference). We were so happy to be back together talking about books across the table! We hope you enjoy listening to this episode as much as we enjoyed recording it.

With ‘Special Topics and Calamity Physics' and ‘Night Film' both catapulting Marisha Pessl into the realms of early BookTube and book internet fanfare in the early 2010s, with whispers of dark academia and academia-related stories that blend with thrillers and literary fiction. Send us a textIn today's episode I speak with author Nat Bickel! She was just written and published a new YA novel called "The Catalyst". We discuss some favorite books, her writing journey, and the highs and lows of self publishing! "Kelynn Sanders has a head full of dreams almost as overwhelming as the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina. She can't contain it nor control it. The constant swimming of what ifs, wants, aspirations, and the possible failure of it all causes her to black out. She tries her best to push her thoughts into a mystical opal necklace, but it only keeps her episodes temporarily at bay. Her loss of consciousness sometimes lasts for more than eight hours at a time, which only puts her life on hold, until she meets Clayto When Clayton Fogerty enters into her world on a bet, he soon becomes the only thing that clears her head. He makes life bearable, her thoughts understandable and realistic, but Clayton has a secret. He has Kelynn's opal necklace through which he's able to watch her biggest dreams play out before his eyes like a movie. He uses his access to her thoughts to his advantage, boosting her confidence and creating scenarios that seem like coincidences to really push her into what he thinks she wants out of life."Find Nat online: https://www.natmosfear.com/ Get "The Catalyst" https://www.amazon.com/Catalyst-Nat-Bickel/dp/B0DFK9337B/?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_w=rRaqr&content-id=amzn1.sym.05575cf6-d484-437c-b7e0-42887775cf30&pf_rd_p=05575cf6-d484-437c-b7e0-42887775cf30&pf_rd_r=143-6100496-5366316&pd_rd_wg=E3iHG&pd_rd_r=db8ee681-0a6c-4c36-8bdc-23358dd3f80b&ref_=aufs_ap_sc_dsk Time Stamps:00:00 Introduction01:45 Favorite Authors and Book Recommendations03:33 What Inspires You To Tell Stories05:55 Book Discussion on The Catalyst (no spoilers)We also discuss her writing journey and what was it like to self puplishBooks Mentioned: Hush Hush series by Becca Fitzpatrick Christine Hannah The NightingaleGreta Gerwig Little Women____________ There are 4 ways you can help support the channel! -Like and subscribe!-I'm now a bookshop.org affiliate - check out my shop and find your next great read! https://bookshop.org/shop/bookshelfodyssey -Buy me a coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/bookshelfpod - My Amazon Wishlist: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2PTGNQWISVZE/ref=nav_wishlist_lists_3 _____________ Find Me Online: Podcast: https://bookshelfodyssey.buzzsprout.com/ Voxer: @artbookshelfodyssey Discord: https://discord.gg/8MFceV2NFe Facebook Group Page: @thebookshelfodyssey Twitter: @odyssey_podcastInstagram: @bookshelfodysseypodcast

In fact, it seems that there are forces at hand trying to oust Miranda from Rosewood with the bottle at the root of it all. Welcome to Episode 212! This episode is different from all of our previous shows because Emily was unexpectedly called out of town to attend her granddaughter's birth! Baby Neena arrived three weeks early. She and her mom, Rachel, are doing great. And yes, Emily has already read a book to her, SPOT GOES TO THE FARM, by Eric Hill. Instead of recording our regular segments, we share reminders about our current buddy read of FELLOWSHIP POINT by Alice Elliott Dark, provide the date – 9/15 – for our Zoom discussion of ENVY by Sandra Brown (our third quarter readalong pick in our Year of Reading Romance), announce a BookTube vlog of our recent Biblio Adventure to Long Island, and then jump into our conversation with Juliet Grames. Juliet's new novel, THE LOST BOY OF SANTA CHIONIA, is a fantastic mystery that has a strong sense of place and characters that leap off the page. We also created a video of our pre-interview chat with Juliet that was too fun and interesting not to share. It has info not discussed in the interview. The link is below if you'd like to watch it. We hope you enjoy this episode. We'll be back to our regular programming on episode 213. Until then, we wish you lots of Happy Reading! https://www.bookcougars.com/blog-1/2024/episode212 Long Island Biblio Adventure video https://youtu.be/vfO1JPFEBks Pre-interview video chat with Juliet https://youtu.be/MGnKlJiWL9M
