In part two of this conversation, Delise and Ginny sit down (literally, our first-ever in-person episode!) with the incredible Vanessa Royer to talk about adoption, music, homeschooling, and so much more. You'll discover insights into all things adoption, from the meaning behind the word “adoption” and examples in Scripture to navigating the complicated legal process and a new, popular method called embryonic adoption. Vanessa also shares about her own wild adoption story, her biological children's relationships with her adoptive children, her advice for parents pursuing or praying about adoption, how inviting new members into your family can completely expand your worldview and empathy, ways to embrace and encourage the cultural heritage of your adoptive children, and why homeschool Christian families are the best families equipped to pursue adoption. Also, passionate about and exceptionally talented in music, Vanessa discusses the role music plays in her life and family, her secrets to making the home a more musical place, and why moms should spend more time pursuing their own passions, whether in art or in business. It's a longer-than-usual episode (check out the in-person interview on our YouTube channel!), but the conversation is rich, fun, and bursting with takeaways for any mom. We hope you enjoy! Join Delise, Ginny, and Hollywood actress, writer, and podcaster Sam Sorbo on this episode of Blessings and Motherhood! Discover the backstory of Sam's upcoming historical comedy, Miracle in East Texas, which tells the heartwarming true story about the biggest oil strike in the history of the United States, right at the dawn of the Great Depression. In this wide-ranging conversation, Sam shares about a homeschool curriculum she wrote to accompany the film, encouraging parents to learn from the story and not just be entertained. This curriculum (a free download, link in the show notes!) includes thought-provoking questions that prompt discussions and help families discover the period's history and economics. Moviemaking aside, as a homeschool mom with Classical Conversations®, Sam explores in this episode the importance of what she calls “world-schooling”—enriching her children's education by immersing them in a real location to discover its history, geography, and culture. She also shares valuable advice for new moms, what types of movies children ought to watch, why she's changed her perspective on education since becoming a homeschool mom, how she's finding moments of rest amidst her family's busy lifestyle, how parents can foster open communication with their children, and her enduring fascination with forgiveness, even before she became a believer! Get tickets for your family to see Miracle in East Texas, produced by and starring Kevin and Sam Sorbo, exclusively in theaters October 29–30, at SorboStudios.com! In this episode, DJ invited Dr. Elizabeth Arleo to the show to talk about her book “First Eat Your Frog and Other Pearls for Professional Working Mothers.” Listen in to hear about the art of setting priorities and learning to give ourselves that much needed dose of grace. Stay tuned as they explore the secrets to reclaiming your time, finding joy in parenting, achieving that elusive work life harmony and to be reminded that it is perfectly okay to let a few balls drop.Dr. Elizabeth Kagan Arleo is a Board-Certified radiologist specializing in Breast and Body Imaging. Her book, FIRST, EAT YOUR FROG is a meticulously referenced book presenting eight lessons (or "pearls") learned by a successful woman in medicine; including improved work-life integration; more easeful relationships with work colleagues and family; better time management in both spheres; and core tenets for thriving as a professional working mother.TIMESTAMPS• [4:28] “There has never been a perfect parent, and there is never going to be a perfect one.”• [11:04] Dr. Arleo on thinking of time in 168 hours a week instead of 24 hour chunks: “The math is you still have over 60 hours after work and sleep for your priorities, whatever they may be for your family and friends, or your community… it helps in figuring out what our priorities are, and knowing there's time for that.”• [18:03] “If it's your job to eat two frogs, it's best to start with a larger one. Meaning that's to take care of the most important thing as early as possible in the day or week, or whatever time period you're dealing with.”• [25:03] Dr. Arleo emphasizes: “Stop over apologizing, particularly for professional working mothers, but applicable to all genders.”For more information on the Imperfect Heroes podcast, visit: https://www.imperfectheroespodcast.com/Connect with Us!DJ Stutz - Website: https://www.littleheartsacademyusa.com/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/littleheartsacademy/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/littleheartsacademy/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOpphCRklDJiFXdS76U0LSQDJ Stutz Booking Link: https://bookme.name/ImperfectheroespodcastCICERONE MASTERS Link: https://www.littleheartsacademyusa.com/courses/cicerone-mastersONE ON ONE COACHING Link: https://www.littleheartsacademyusa.com/courses/one-on-one-coaching-bundleThe Parenting Owner's Manual https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CD13DBNN/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=Dr. Elizabeth Kagan Arelo - Website: https://www.drelizabethkaganarleo.com/Twitter: https://twitter.com/DrArleoLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/elizabeth-kagan-arleo-md-facr-fsbi-faawr-2a10998/Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/First-Eat-Your-Frog-Professional/dp/1956450580/ref=sr_1_2?crid=2X6B0JLTYR8V8&keywords=first+eat+your+frog&qid=1675302680&sp

After 9 months of patience, preparation, and anticipation, what we want is a smooth, well-planned birth with a happy beginning. Unfortunately, it's common to experience the opposite. Maybe your labor wasn't what you expected. There might have been problems along the way. Maybe you had problems or mistakes were made. Maybe your doctor or nurses didn't listen to you or honor your wishes. Or you and your baby might have experienced trauma or needed a C-section. (That's why doula work is so important. And why a lot of moms become doulas!)There's nothing worse than feeling like you're invisible when you are at the mercy of others. These situations are all-too-familiar for Sarah Bilger, an engineer and doula who specializes in VBAC preparation. Her passion for doula work and successful VBACs took root after her first child was born. Her baby came by C-section so she was told that this was the only option for her in the future. That didn't feel right. She listened to her gut and dove down the rabbit hole of researching.Casual reading wasn't enough for Sarah, so she took doula certification courses. She shared what she was learning on her podcast, "Entering Motherhood." She had no idea that these decisions would change her life. Now she is helping other women prepare and experience the birth stories they are hoping for.Listen to the show to hear more and feel inspired and validated by Sarah. Join us for a few laughs and lots of ah-ha moments. You'll enjoy Sarah's warmth, fun personality and walk away with insight and tips. (Hear some of Meredith's stories, too!)If you've been told you must have a C-section from now on, listen for guidance and motivation so you can do what's right for you!Bonus: As you listen to Sarah's story, pay attention to your thoughts and feelings about doula work. Is there a dream inside of you, waiting to be discovered? Maybe you're onto something. Would you enjoy a birth world career? Then reach out and let's talk about it! Today's episode may be a bit of a mess! But hey, this is REAL life! As you will find out, i was interrupted by the kids a little more than half way through. I re-grouped & thought about starting over but decided, we won't edit anything out. This is me being transparent. Welcome to "Traveling With the Trimmer's!" On today's episode i talked about how as time passes and my podcast and women's community grow, I find myself revisiting my why. When I first started it all, I wanted to empower women to break free from molds and prioritize self-care, self-acceptance, and self-love. But as I've delved deeper, met new women, and researched more, my why has evolved. It's not that it's changed completely, but it's expanded and grown into new concepts and new ideas. It's about empowering women to push past societal expectations and find their true selves. And I know it's an ever-evolving journey, but through this community, I hope to inspire and facilitate growth and self-discovery. Say hello to Delise's mom, Chelly Barnard! As a mother of four and homeschool parent of over twenty years, Chelly has a unique understanding of the mental load that mothers often bear. She brings a biblical perspective to those often-overwhelming feelings of responsibility, insecurity, and ever-shrinking time to get it all done. Chelly comes prepared with her best time management tips and the most helpful habits she has developed over the years as a mom that enable her to have a healthy relationship with her mental load. She discusses investing in a good planner, keeping analog lists of recipes and groceries, placing dry-erase boards around the house for jotting down quick notes and things to remember, delegating chores to the kids (sorry, Delise!), accepting that you won't be able to get everything done on your list in one day, and turning to the Lord for guidance and comfort in bearing the mental load. Plus, Chelly tells how she was able to still have time for her hobbies during her busy seasons of parenting and homeschooling. Join us for this conversation packed with insights you won't want to miss! Hey Friends, In this week's episode, join us as we delve into the depths of personal growth and resilience and unpack some really hard lessons I've learned through my life. My co-host for this episode is someone I've known my whole life, my Godsister Amanda Andere, who was born 1 month and a week before me and we affectionately refer to each other as our twin! There's a fun story that we share in this episode about this. In this episode, we explore the invaluable wisdom hidden within life's toughest trials, particularly those that hit us where it hurts financially and with relationships. Discover the transformative power of embracing vulnerability, recognizing that even in moments of financial strain, seeking help can be a powerful catalyst for growth. Throughout our conversation, we unravel the layers of trust and vulnerability, discussing how these traits have not only enriched our individual lives but also paved the way for significant growth in our relationships with others. We candidly open up about navigating the intricate dynamics of family ties and the art of renegotiating for healthier connections. We also explore the theme of time - that elusive yet precious resource. We recount our personal epiphanies on the weight of investing time, and how the past three years have reshaped our perspective on its value. Tune in to learn how mindfulness and journaling have become anchors of peace and gratitude in our lives, enabling us to mindfully absorb the lessons life throws our way. Listen in as we talk about: How far back Amanda and I go and our connection as God sisters The cost of truly hard lessons Lessons that financially cost us What prevented me from asking for help Why it's ok to ask for help and guidance Trust, vulnerability and growing from others Learning hard lessons in relationships Learning how to understand our own emotions Renegotiating for relationships and dealing with family relationships Learning hard lessons about how much time we put into something Being mindful of where our time goes How the last three years have changed my relationship to time Paying more attention and being more present Finding peace and gratitude in journaling, and being mindful of the lessons learned Episode Sponsors Arbonne Greens Gut Glow Bundle.
