What does it mean to be the eldest daughter? In this episode of Moms and Their Music, we explore the unique experience of growing up as the firstborn daughter and the expectations that often come with that role. From responsibility and leadership to sibling dynamics, people-pleasing tendencies, and the pressure to "set the example," we discuss how being the eldest daughter can shape both childhood and adulthood in ways that are often overlooked. We also chat for a while about what it's like to raise an eldest daughter.Whether you're an eldest daughter yourself, raising one, married to one, or still recovering from being told "you're the oldest" every time something went wrong, this episode is for you.We laugh our way through sibling dynamics, unrealistic expectations, responsibility that somehow gets assigned by birth order, and the strange phenomenon of eldest daughters becoming unofficial assistant managers of the family before they're even old enough to drive. As Moms and Their Music continues to grow, we're also entering a season of intentional development behind the scenes. We're exploring new ideas, refining how we connect with our audience, and laying the groundwork for exciting additions still to come.Thank you for being part of the journey. Making friends as a mom is harder than dating… and somehow more confusing Making friends as a mom comes with a lot of questions…Like: “Are we close?” “Are our kids the reason we talk?” “Do I text first or is that too much?”In this episode of Moms and Their Music, we're talking about the reality of friendships in motherhood — the effort it takes, the awkwardness of making new connections, and why keeping friendships strong can feel harder than it used to.We also dive into the differences between friendships with moms and friendships with friends who don't have kids — and how both can feel meaningful, but very different. It's honest, a little chaotic, and very much a “you're not the only one figuring this out as you go” kind of conversation.Youtube Playlist -There's not much on there for this one, honestly. For the first time ever, the full MATM trio is finally in the same room… and the conversation goes exactly as off the rails as you'd expect. No missing chairs. No scheduling chaos. Just the full trio doing what we do best; laughing too hard, telling stories we probably shouldn't, and saying the quiet parts out loud. What started as a simple recording quickly turned into one of the most fun sessions we've had so far. The energy in the room was unreal, the stories escalated faster than expected, and more than once we looked at each other and asked, “Should we cut that?” …and then decided not to.This episode is what happens when moms finally get to talk about a night out and the conversation goes completely off the rails; the kind of honest, hilarious, and sometimes chaotic storytelling that comes from real friendship, motherhood, and life lived out loud.If you've ever wondered what happens when three moms get together to talk about parenting, life, music, and the stories that come with it… this episode is exactly that moment.Grab your drink or mocktail, settle in, and come hang out with us.Trust us… this one gets wild.Youtube PlaylistSend a text Support the show

Two of the moms sit down for a conversation that doesn't try to wrap motherhood into neat little boxes. Bonus moms. Bio moms. Different roles, different emotions and a whole lot of perspective that rarely gets said out loud. What starts as a simple discussion slowly unfolds into something deeper: boundaries that aren't always clear, love that looks different depending on where you stand, and the quiet truths that live underneath blended family dynamics. There's no scorekeeping here. No sides to pick. Just honesty, reflection, and the kind of real talk that happens when the mics stay on long enough for the walls to come down. Some moments feel raw. Some feel unexpectedly comforting. And of course, it wouldn't be MATM without a few laughs breaking through when things get heavy. If you've ever lived in the gray areas of modern motherhood or wondered what those conversations sound like behind closed doors; this episode invites you to listen a little closer.Press play… and step into the perspective.Link to the YouTube playlist:https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwnGrdjqohPJZUnCUlQDZj4Gr0nqWdX_B&si=-KQiwU6re3NLvUWhSend a textThe Classic MATM intro the sound that tells you, we're coming back from or going to break/ad ok byyyyeee Support the show

If your child is struggling in school, melting down over homework, falling behind in reading, zoning out in class, or constantly overwhelmed, it can leave you feeling unsure of what to do next. You know they're bright. You know they're trying. But something isn't clicking. In this episode, we sit down with Dr. Kimberly Hinman, a licensed psychologist and owner of Bloom Testing, a Kansas City–based practice specializing in high quality psychoeducational, neuropsychological, and autism evaluations for children, teens, and adults. What You'll Hear in This Episode In this conversation, we talk about what it really looks like to pursue clarity when a child is struggling including: The earliest signs a child may be struggling academically, behaviorally, or emotionally The biggest misconceptions about ADHD, autism, and learning difference How to tell the difference between typical development and something that needs evaluation What a psychoeducational evaluation actually is and what it can reveal The difference between school testing and private testing What testing day feels like for a child and how to support anxious or sensitive kid How results translate into real support, including IEPs, 504 plans, and school accommodations What to say to parents who worry about labeling their child First steps to take if you think your child may need testing Dr. Hinman reminds us that struggling in school doesn't mean a child isn't smart- it means we haven't figured out what's getting in the way. A good evaluation doesn't label a child; it explains their experience. Testing isn't about a diagnosis. It's about a roadmap. If you've ever felt that quiet nudge that something feels off, this episode is for you. To make an appointment with Bloom Testing, click here. About Dr. Himan Originally from upstate New York, Dr. Hinman graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the State University of New York at Geneseo and earned her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Columbia University. She relocated to Kansas City in 2020 and has since built strong relationships with local pediatricians, therapists, and schools. As both a clinician and a mom herself, she brings warmth, clarity, and practicality to the families she serves. Dr. Hinman now carries forward the legacy of Bloom Testing's founder, the late Dr. Dawn Bloom, whose compassionate, evidence-based approach made a significant impact in the community. Today, she honors that foundation while expanding the practice's services-including a growing focus on learning differences, ADHD assessments, psychoeducational testing, and comprehensive autism evaluations. The title captures the heartbreak, confusion, and reality of Alzheimer's, and the book itself is structured around the three stages of the disease: early, middle, and late. Today on the show, we're excited to welcome Katie Wieners, the owner of Monstera's Books in Downtown Overland Park! Katie lives in Overland Park with her husband, Justin, and their two daughters. Before opening the bookstore, Katie spent nearly 15 years in software sales, building a successful career that many would consider the “safe path.” But after becoming a mom for the second time, she realized something important: the work that once energized her no longer felt aligned with the life she wanted to build. So she made a bold shift. In March 2024, Katie opened Monstera's Books, a beautiful blend of books and plants that quickly became a neighborhood favorite. Then in summer of 2025, a fire forced them closed. After extensive rebuilding the store and inventory, they reopened in time for the holidays. We're talking about what it looks like to pivot careers as a mom, follow a dream that feels a little scary, build something from the ground up, and create a space where other people can feel at home. Katie's story is such an inspiring reminder that motherhood doesn't close doors — it can actually open the right ones. Follow Monstera's on Facebook and Instagram. When it came time to choose a hospital for prenatal care and to deliver their babies, they did extensive research. They chose University Health because of the maternal and fetal medicine physicians specializing in high-risk pregnancy and the access to a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). We spent time today chatting with Nora about her experience.
