Clutter isn't just physical, it's emotional. In today's episode of Your Cup of Joy, I'm joined by Britt Gaudio, professional organizer, decluttering coach, and the heart behind Well Nested Living, to explore what it really means to create a home that supports your nervous system, not just your to-do list. Get ready for a chat that goes far beyond tidying up. If your home has been feeling more overwhelming than grounding, this conversation will ease the pressure and remind you that the goal isn't perfection, it's creating a space that feels safe and supportive.Britt shares how burnout led her from the corporate world to entrepreneurship, and why supporting busy parents through clutter is about so much more than organization: it's about reclaiming peace, energy, and presence in your life. We talked about what clutter actually costs us, how overstimulation shows up in motherhood, and why a “perfectly tidy” home might not be the goal we truly need.Together, we explore how to let go of the emotional baggage tied to our belongings, the magic of 15-minute resets, and why it's okay, and even beautiful, to ask for help. Britt reminds me (and I hope she reminds you, too) that our homes are meant to be lived in, that we don't have to chase someone else's aesthetic to feel good in our space, and that letting go of the physical often helps us begin a new emotional chapter, too. This episode is your gentle permission slip to slow down, declutter with love, and consider that calling in support is one of the most powerful acts of self-care we can offer ourselves. As always, if this conversation resonated with you, please share it with someone who you think needs it. I'd also love to connect and hear your thoughts over on Instagram @yourcupofjoypodcast. Let's keep rewriting the story of what motherhood, home, and support can look like! Welcome to another cozy chat on The Waves of Joy— where we keep it real, raw, and a little bit glam. In this episode, we're diving into the beautifully chaotic fourth trimester. We're talking baby blues (and knowing when it's more), the supplements that might help, and yes — even a little Botox self-care without the mom guilt. We cover the hot-button topic of co-sleeping vs. the Snoo, and how this mama is blending the two to survive sleep deprivation. Plus: feeding on demand, bottle feeding one meal a day, and the never-ending question — “Is she gaining enough weight?” (Thank you, Hatch scale)Let's also get into the nitty gritty: swaddling, burping, tiny razor-sharp fingernails, and whether it's normal to dread the first postpartum shower. And because moms deserve comfort too, we're talking about those mini sanity-savers: daily walks, a little yoga, and the magical neck relief from the Achedaway heated scraper (yes, please). You're not alone in the swirl. Let's laugh, vent, and feel seen together.

Core Points:Postpartum depression is often underdiagnosed and can last for years, requiring proactive screening and support systems.Optimize social support, including booking a psychiatrist appointment in advance, to prepare for postpartum challenges.Address risk factors like history of mental health issues, lack of social support, poor nutrition, and substance use.Breastfeeding is beneficial; medication can be safe and improve outcomes for both mother and baby.Prioritize self-care by outsourcing tasks, focusing on rest, and setting realistic expectations.Trust your instincts as a mother and seek help without shame, ensuring your doctor is supportive and responsive.Postpartum Depression vs. Baby Blues:The discussion began by defining postpartum blues and postpartum depression and clarifying the differences between them. Postpartum depression is major depression with a timeline, and it consists of issues with sleep, little interest in activities, feelings of guilt, low energy levels, poor concentration, and thoughts of self-harm within the first 12 months of giving birth. Baby blues is considered more of a mild delirium that occurs within the first two weeks after birth due to sleep deprivation.Postpartum Psychosis:Postpartum psychosis is more severe, with the mother detached from reality, experiencing paranoia, hallucinations, and an inability to bond with the baby. In such cases, immediate medical intervention is needed to ensure the safety of both mother and child.Risk Factors:Risk factors include a history of depression or mental illness, lack of social and financial support, poor nutrition, and substance abuse. It's important to ask patients about their mental health history and whether there were any mental health issues during menopause.Prevention Strategies:Prevention involves optimizing your village by cultivating a support network that allows the mother to openly express her feelings and seek help when needed. It's also beneficial to book a psychiatrist appointment in advance to ensure timely access to professional support.Treatment Approaches:Treatment for postpartum depression is similar to treating general depression, with careful consideration given to the safety of medications during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Some medications are considered safe, and Zoloft is a good option for pregnant women. It's crucial to prioritize nutrition, including magnesium, omega-3 fatty acids, saffron, and turmeric, and consult with a psychiatrist for personalized recommendations.Lifestyle Modifications:Lifestyle modifications include limiting social media use, setting realistic expectations, prioritizing rest, and outsourcing tasks to reduce stress. Additionally, asking for extra time off from work and involving family and friends in caregiving can provide additional support.Cultural Perspectives:Cultural perspectives on postpartum care are highlighted, advocating for traditional practices like the “five-five-five” rule and emphasizing the importance of community support and rest.Societal Impact:The importance of the mother-child bond in the first six months and the adverse effects of early daycare on a child's emotional regulation and development were also discussed. Returning to work too soon after childbirth can have negative impacts on both the mother and child, with the child needing the mother the most.Resources Mentioned:Results Psychiatry: https://www.resultspsychiatry.comPetition to stop Medicare from limiting access to telehealth coverage: https://chng.it/v6vb7SV85mGet in Touch! rob@2docstocpodcast.com
