East Bay Calvary Church is a nondenominational church in Traverse City, Michigan, whose mission is to make more and better disciples of Jesus Christ.

In a messed up, crazy, scattered world like we saw after Babel, we would be right to ask again, "Who can God work through to save us?" There's great news! God can use – and has used – unlikely and unexpected people to fulfill His promises to save! Join us in Genesis 11:10–12:3 for the transition from the ancient world to a wonderful stage of God's salvation story with Abra(ha)m. God is always faithful to save!

Join me as I Catch Up with Pastor Kit Bogan and the Fall Core Course! Pastor Kit fills us in on what the main focus is in the course, some interesting discussions they have had, and what is coming next for the Core Course this winter! Winter Core Course kicks of January 5th at 9:00am, and we hope you will join us! LOVED what you heard? Want to plug in sooner? December 14th is Discover East Bay! Just after our 10:30am service, join us for pizza and part of what is gone over in the Core Course!

Just like you "Catch Up" with friends and family, join me over the next 4 weeks of December as I "Catch Up" with all of our Equip Class Teachers! I am going to be asking them all of the questions, and diving a little deeper into what they are teaching about!

Our inclination in “making our lives count” is often to “make our names great.” With all your life goals before you, you need to decide whose name you want to make great. We're diving into Genesis 11:1-9 this Sunday to learn well from the Tower of Babel – and it will be great to see you again at East Bay.

Think of the many people all around the world: every culture, land, language, and nation. If we ignore all humanity's origins with God, our thinking about people around the world gets distorted, and sometimes dangerous. But God's perspective on the peoples of the world--starting in Genesis 10--will reshape our view of them and our role among them. We look forward to taking in this big picture of God's world with you this Sunday!

The story of God's re-creation with Noah continues … including a new "fall" in this new world! But when we spread the word about other people's sin, we only sin the more! Instead of spreading the word on sin, let's learn from Genesis 9:18-29 how to deal with sin itself. We look forward to seeing you Sunday!

If we don't think God is serious about judging sin, or the eternal conscious punishment of hell, we blow off and ignore God and His warnings. We may even adjust what we believe so the future isn't so important anyways! But when we reach Genesis 7–still pretty early in the Bible–God doesn't bluff about His coming judgment. We need to know that we will be saved from His judgment—by Him. It's a serious topic, an important one to prepare our ears to hear and our hearts to receive. Looking forward to seeing you Sunday, church family!

Which do we need to remember more: the reality of death? or the reality of hope? In Genesis 5, God establishes that we can't avoid death--only to inspire hope that we might avoid it after all! We look forward to sharing God's good news and learning to walk with God together with you this Sunday.

When our attention to people becomes earthbound, centered on skills and accomplishments, we stop seeing their need for a Savior. We need to renew our focus on our shared problem of sin – and our need for the LORD to save us! Get ready to receive Genesis 4:17-26 with us this Sunday morning, and to see one another through the lens of God's promise.

Seeing our sin is a difficult, essential step for each of us to take. But once we recognize our problem of sin, we don't actually solve it; we all tend to make it worse! This sin pattern shows up right after Adam and Eve, and only God can break us out of it. We look forward to walking through the story of Cain and Abel with you in Genesis 4:1-16 this Sunday. Let's take hold of God's good news to deliver us from our sin!

What does a perfect world look like? It's hard to agree on a perfect solution to the world's problems when we don't agree on what the perfect result should be! This Sunday, we'll take a long look at God's perfect design for us in the beginning, in Genesis 2:4-25––and celebrate our good God Who made us to be close to Him!

Of all of creation, it's humanity that's capable of asking--and burdened by wondering--“Why are we here?” But in the first chapter of the Bible, we celebrate that God answers this question in an amazing way, and beyond what we could ever expect! Join us in Genesis 1:26-31 this Sunday, and bring the great news of God's purpose and worth to those around you!

When Christian community falls short of what it has been and could be, we want to restore it! But we often try to get it back to what it was the wrong way. Healthy Christian community comes to us, not as the goal of our gathering, but as the overflow of faith in Jesus lived out together. Dive into this wonderful snapshot of the early church in Acts 2:42-47!

"What shall we do?"––how do we respond once we hear and understand the good news of the Gospel? We're delighted to welcome Pastor Altin Zefi back to East Bay Calvary Church, visiting from his overseas service in Albania, to bring God's Word to us from Acts 2:37-41.

Pastor Kit leads the church in prayer after the recent tragedy at the Walmart in Traverse City.

Many of us have had "mountaintop experiences," moments of meaningful spiritual connection that leave us forever changed. But after major spiritual experiences, we don't always know how to follow through with it—and we fail to connect it to Jesus. But Peter showed how to make that clear, compelling connection between our experience of the Spirit and the GREAT news we have in Jesus! Join us in Acts 2:14-36 as we beat a trail from what we feel to Who Jesus is!

As we celebrate, let's get excited about the church and about the Spirit – but let's not miss the point of both of them. When the Holy Spirit empowers His people, we've got to use His power for His purpose! Walk with us in God's Word in Acts 2:1-13 to see what God wants when He gives the Spirit to the church.

Pastor Kendale Dennis shares a message from Psalm 78 at our 75th Anniversary gathering on Saturday night, July 12, 2025.

The capacity of Christian leaders for horrible sin seems to threaten Jesus' plan to empower and send us once He's gone. What do we do when even Jesus' closest followers can fall so far from walking with God? We'll find hope as we read Acts 1:12-26.

When our attention drifts, we refocus ourselves on what we expect to come next. But when it comes to the mission we have from Jesus, when our attention drifts, we depend on each other to refocus us on what Jesus called us to do! We're pressing onward in Acts 1:6-11 this Sunday.

Jesus' work in this world is far from over! The mission of Jesus continues––but many people don't know that He meant for it to keep going in us. Others are trying to carry it on in our own strength. But Jesus wants us to carry on His mission––in the power that God the Father promises us. We're looking forward to jumping into Acts 1:1-5 with you in our new series, How the Church Got Started!

In our worry about the future or ambition for it, we often focus, not on worthless things, but things that are worth less. To plan well for the future, however old we are, we've got to set a higher value on what lasts for eternity. Let's look at how we can apply 1 Corinthians 13:8–14:1 to our lives together.

How can so many people be so different at defining something so important as LOVE? In the end, the Author of life is the Author of love. He calls us to surrender our definitions and expectations about love so that we can accept His. We're looking forward to digging into 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 together!

Our next short series of messages in 1 Corinthians 13 anchors us in the essential need for love in the Christian life. Have you noticed when church people get caught up in religious “stuff,” we often veer away from the Spirit-filled, Jesus-following lives God wants us to live? Let's break the idea that anything we do as a church (and anywhere else in life, for that matter), matters one bit without living by love.

What do you do when ongoing struggles make you doubt whether you want to press on in following Jesus? Remember that endurance you had when you first came to Jesus–remember it, reclaim it, and press on in it! We're excited for you to join us for our last message in Hebrews (10:32-39)!

Wanna know what breaks a Christian mother's heart? When those they love walk away from Jesus: whether it's to please other people around them, to avoid hardship, or deliberately rejecting Him to follow another way. We're moving forward in Hebrews 10:26-31 this Sunday, from the right response to all God planned for us to the danger of rejecting His plan to save us. Don't keep anyone––including moms––worrying about your eternal destiny! We have got to accept God's plan! That's the big picture this Sunday morning.

We're pressing on in Hebrews together this Sunday, especially thinking about how many people have abandoned religion out of frustration, too tired of keep trying to make up for their sins to God on their own. But Jesus broke that frustrating cycle that we could never get ourselves out of to finally, fully, truly take away our sin! We hope you'll join us for a once-for-all message of hope in Jesus from Hebrews 9:23–10:18!

Jesus' death and resurrection change everything – and on this Easter Sunday we look at how His sacrifice set a new and better plan for our lives into motion. Pastor Kit looks at Hebrews 9:11-22.

Hebrews 9:1-12

What's so special about a covenant? And what does it mean that Jesus mediates a new one between us and God? Was there anything wrong with the old one? Pastor Kit tackles these questions and more in his sermon on Hebrews 8.

The law given to the Israelites in the Old Testament was a good thing, in its time – but when Jesus came, He instituted a systemic change to the priesthood that we'd be wise to grab hold of. We continue our study in Hebrews as Pastor Kit looks at Hebrews 7:11-28.

This week we take a deep dive into the mysterious character Melchizedek, how he relates to Abraham, what that has to do with Jesus, and, most importantly, what it all means for our faith. Pastor Kit looks at Hebrews 7:1-10 as we continue our study in Hebrews.

We all make and receive promises. Unfortunately, we are prone to break them – but God is not. And today, we discover how His biggest and best promise to us is fulfilled in Jesus. Pastor Kit looks at Hebrews 6:13-20 as we continue our series, "Even Better."

As we continue to study the book of Hebrews, our passage of Scripture today contains an important warning – one we won't want to miss or take lightly. Pastor Kit looks at Hebrews 6:4-12.

We all start out as "baby" Christians in our faith – but we have absolutely no excuse for staying there. So what does it look like to "grow up" in our walk with God? Pastor Kit opens the Bible to Hebrews 5:11-6:3 as we read an exhortation to mature as believers in Christ.

To be able to approach God's throne with boldness and confidence – this is the privilege we have because of Jesus, our High Priest. What should that mean for our daily lives? Our prayer lives? Pastor Kit looks at Hebrews 4:14-5:10 as we discover that Jesus is the ultimate and best High Priest.

Rest can be hard to find. The Bible tells us to rest, but what does that look like amidst all the obligations of our daily lives? Pastor Kit looks at Hebrews 4:1-13 to discuss what it means to enter the rest that Jesus offers.

It's incredibly easy to slip into the habit of unbelief – wondering if God really is able to do this, if He really is who He says He is. So how can we prevent this? Pastor Kit looks at Hebrews 3:7-19 as we discover the importance of encouraging and exhorting one another in our faith.

When we look at the "heroes" of Scripture, Moses stands out as an incredibly faithful servant of God. But we see in Hebrews that Jesus was an even greater hero than Moses – one whose example we ought to follow closely. Pastor Kit heads to Hebrews 3:1-6 as we continue our study in Hebrews.

Having a game plan is one of the best ways to keep motivated and keep on mission! Pastor Kit calls us to 4 key pursuits in 2025 as we look forward to seeing God work both at East Bay and in Traverse City this year.

As we continue our series in Hebrews, we find over and over that Jesus is better – a better savior, a better priest, a better brother – than we could ever have hoped for. Pastor Reist opens the Bible to Hebrews 2:10-18 to dig deeper into what this means.

As we struggle with sin and our own imperfections, it's encouraging to remember that God has had a plan to redeem us from the beginning of time – a plan that was fulfilled in Jesus, and not our own attempts to redeem ourselves. Pastor Kit continues our series in Hebrews with a look at Hebrews 2:5-9.

At this time of year, we often make plans and set goals to ensure the coming year will be a great one. But what plans are you making to stay close to Jesus – to make sure you're not slowly drifting away from Him and what He's called you to? Pastor Kit continues our study in Hebrews with a look at Hebrews 2:1-4.

Pastor Kit begins a new series in the book of Hebrews, where we'll look at how Jesus is better than prophets, angels, and every other way we might try to reach God – and how our lives should change because of it.

Pastor Kit wraps up our series "You Belong Here" with a look at Mary's song of praise in Luke 1:46-55, asking what it might look like in our own lives to have a grateful humility and hunger for God like Mary did so many years ago.
