Episode 168 DNA ID Replay; The case of Kathleen O'Brien Doyle and Aundria Bowman. While Jess is on winter break preparing new episodes of DNA ID for 2026, we are airing some of our favorite one part episodes weekly in what we call 'DNA ID Replay' episodes. These Replay episodes will air every week while on break with the exception of Christmas week. In this replay episode, we explore the case of Kathleen O'Brien Doyle and Aundria Bowman which originally aired in episode 29. In 1980, Kathleen O'Brien Doyle was a young navy wife living alone in Norfolk, Virginia while her husband was stationed on an aircraft carrier. One night as she was getting ready for bed, an attacker entered her home through a window and raped, stabbed and strangled Kathleen. Her case quickly went cold. When Norfolk police and NCIS decided to employ forensic genealogy to find answers in her case, what they discovered also gave them answers to a decades-old missing persons case in Michigan. Kathleen O'Brien Doyle's murderer in Virginia and Aundria Bowman's murderer in Michigan were one and the same. And he was still around to answer for his crimes. The Deadline Report - Ben Vidgen Investigates. A double shot of reality.
The legendary Scotty Bowman, the winningest coach in NHL history, joins Neil and Vic for the inaugural episode of NHL Wraparound Hall of Fame Edition. At 91 years old, Bowman shares remarkable stories from his seven-decade journey through hockey, from his childhood in Verdun to building dynasties in Montreal, Pittsburgh, and Detroit. He discusses his mentorship under Sam Pollock, the evolution of the game, coaching superstars, and the challenges facing teams trying to rebuild in today's NHL.IN THIS EPISODE:[00:00] - Launching NHL Wraparound Hall of Fame Edition franchise with hockey's greatest coach, Scotty Bowman.[03:00] - Bowman's Scottish immigrant father arriving in Montreal in 1929 as a blacksmith for the CNR railway, and growing up in Verdun.[06:00] - Learning French naturally on the streets of Verdun and perfecting bilingual skills coaching French-Canadian players in Ottawa.[08:00] - Growing up as a Boston Bruins fan, not a Canadiens fan, listening to games on radio with his father writing down scores.[11:00] - How his father worked on building the Verdun Auditorium in 1939 - the same building later named after Scotty and his brother.[13:00] - Transitioning from playing to coaching after injury, and the pivotal mentorship of Sam Pollock beginning in junior hockey.[14:00] - Sam Pollock's genius as a GM: learning the business from the ground up in Ottawa, selling ads, arranging housing, and understanding hockey operations.[16:00] - The evolution from coaching junior hockey to scouting, and how Sam Pollock brought Bowman into the Canadiens organization.[19:00] - Sam Pollock's brilliance: 8 Stanley Cups in 13 seasons as GM, master of trading draft picks with expansion teams, and later success with the Toronto Blue Jays.[21:00] - Why there should be a Sam Pollock Trophy for GMs - the greatest general manager in hockey history.[23:00] - Pollock's draft pick wizardry: how he acquired picks that became Guy Lafleur, Steve Shutt, and Bob Gainey.[25:00] - The challenge of coaching today's entitled generation versus the players of previous eras.[26:00] - How Florida's Bill Zito works closely with Paul Maurice to get specific types of players - size, strength, and physicality over soft skill players.[28:00] - The difficulty of complete rebuilds: why stripping teams down to the girders (Chicago, San Jose) makes competing nearly impossible.[30:00] - The problem with half the league missing playoffs - how can you sell tickets when fans know their team has no shot?[32:00] - The infiltration of European hockey into NHL systems, and how taking a gamble on Russian players changed everything.[34:00] - Acquiring the Russian Five: Sergei Fedorov's defensive brilliance, Vladimir Konstantinov's tragic injury, and the Lou Lamoriello connection that brought Slava Fetisov to Detroit.[36:00] - Adding Viacheslav Kozlov and Larry Murphy to complete the puzzle - parallels to Neil's Edmonton Oilers acquisitions for the 1994 Rangers.[38:00] - The entitlement problem with today's young stars drafted 1-8: they feel they've already made it before proving anything.[40:00] - Communication with superstars: never sugarcoating, always telling the truth even when players don't want to hear it.[43:00] - Buffalo's 13-year playoff drought and the challenge of selling tickets when your team can't compete.[44:00] - Guy Lafleur's difficult start: the pressure of being ordained as the next Jean Beliveau and transitioning from center to wing.[46:00] - Steve Yzerman's transformation: convincing a 150-point scorer to sacrifice offense, become a checker, and embrace defense to win championships.[48:00] - Florida's threepeat chances: the importance of the Seth Jones and Sam Bennett additions, and managing goaltending with 37-year-old Sergei Bobrovsky.[50:00] - The challenge of defending...
The roar of engines is just the opening note. What started as a handful of car lovers swapping stories in the 1970s has become a weekend that fills Bowman's Main Street, books every hotel, and draws families from across the Upper Midwest. We sit down with Ryan Shear and Kevin Hilton from the Dakota Territory Car Club to share how a leadership reset and a back-to-basics approach transformed a small-town show into a regional anchor between Bismarck-Mandan and Cool Deadwood Nights. We dig into the club's secret sauce: show up, help out, and make it easy for people to belong. Membership swelled from a few dozen to nearly 200, with more than half joining for the social life as much as the chrome. Along the way, the club turned community need into action—staffing parades, serving burgers at show-and-shines, running indoor trunk-or-treat when the weather bites, and raising over $14,000 in one evening for a local medical benefit. That service-first mindset powers a weekend designed for neighbors and travelers alike: Friday night socials with pre-registration and vehicle previews, a Saturday morning breakfast, streets lined with cars, and kids' games that keep the youngest gearheads smiling. We also spotlight the classic car auction that now caps at 50 lots for quality and pace. It's a Main Street spectacle that draws bidders from across the country and sends cars to new garages far beyond county lines. When the sun drops, the stage lights up for a free concert funded by local donors and sponsors—a promise that keeps the event welcoming and the sidewalks packed. Expect practical details on dates, how to pre-register for free until June, where to consign for the sale, and why this weekend has become a can't-miss stop on the summer calendar.Love what we're building? Subscribe, share this with a friend who loves classic cars, and leave a quick rating or review so more people can find the show and join us on Main Street.Follow at www.americalandauctioneer.com and on Instagram & FacebookContact the team at Pifer's
Yesterday was a historic day as the USC Trojans locked down one of their best recruiting classes of all time. The coaching staff deserves a ton of flowers, and many are getting recognized as some of the top recruiters in the country. The only drama at all yesterday was the delay in elite tight end Mark Bowman submitting his papers. We put to bed everything surrounding that, as Bowman is now officially a Trojan. Finally, many around the social sphere want to mock the number of commits that USC took on, jeering "quantity" over "quality." This is absolutely false, and here is why. Episode 291 continues with Jeremy Lee and Joe Poirot are joined by Leighton Sheldon of Just Collect for a focused conversation on where the line sits between cards and memorabilia. They dig into what happens when card prices climb into serious money, whether collectors should pivot to memorabilia at certain price points, and how space, display, and personal taste factor into those decisions. From there the trio shifts into a long, honest discussion about sticker autographs, PSA 10 autograph grades, and whether grading the auto itself adds real value or just marketing noise. Topics in this segment include: • Leighton's main question: when your card budget hits its ceiling, do you start looking at memorabilia instead• Jeremy's “cards only” stance and why game used gloves made the cut when jerseys did not• Space, storage, and display issues that push some collectors away from big items and back to cards• Jackie Robinson examples: 1950 Bowman in different grades versus signed pieces and scorecards• How memorabilia can offer historically significant items at prices below top tier card grades• Why some collectors chase one key piece of memorabilia per player while others stay strictly cardboard• Sticker autos versus on card autos and why some collectors refuse stickers entirely• PSA 10 autograph grades on modern pack pulled autos and whether the extra premium is justified• Vintage signed cards, fading ink, ballpoint quirks, and when an autograph grade actually helps• The psychology of “10/10” labels, population reports, and how grading companies changed how autos are valued Sports Cards Live streams live on YouTube every Saturday night, and this audio comes from that live video show. While out tracking in the new snow the other day I came across some relatively small tracks, reminiscent of a Chipmunk (Tamias striatus) or Red Squirrel (Tamiasciurus hudsonicus), though small enough to be a Short-tailed Weasel (Mustela ermina). It took a second before I recognized them as Southern Flying Squirrel (Glaucomys volans) tracks. I have been encountering Southern Flying Squirrels in various ways for a few years, including tracks, scat, feeding sign, live sightings, and I even pet one once, but through all of this, I didn't know much about them. Hence, inspired by my recent tracking outing, I figured I would take some time to get to know the Southern Flying Squirrel a little better. Missouri travels to Oklahoma for an 11-Central kickoff in a game shown on ABC. Topics in our preview include: Oklahoma took a huge step towards a playoff berth with a road upset of Alabama. Missouri rebounded from a tough loss to Texas A&M with Ahmad Hardy rushing for 300 yards in a blowout of Mississippi State. The Sooners' defense is one of the best in the country, and beat Alabama without R Mason Thomas. The Sooners got big play from the Bowman brothers last week in that win. Oklahoma gives up just 3.5 yards on sack-adjusted rushing plays and 4.9 yards on sack-adjusted pass plays. Missouri allows 4.4 and 4.8 per play, respectively. Oklahoma has had a tough time running the ball lately and the offense hasn't eclipsed 400 yards of offense in its last seven games. The Sooners don't usually force turnovers, but got three huge ones against Alabama. Can Missouri go on the road and win with a freshman quarterback? Stop Playing With The Chickens / Pastor Jeff Bowman by Hope City Church
On this episode of Trending in Education, host Mike Palmer talks with Halley Bowman, who focuses on curriculum and tutor training at Saga Education, and Katherine Huete, founder of the consultancy Estelita and a leader in scaling language support at Saga. We explore the powerful resurgence of high-impact tutoring, especially its critical role in supporting emergent multilingual learners (EMLs) in secondary math. Halley shares Saga's unique model, which integrates dedicated, small-group tutoring into the school day, making this high-impact intervention accessible to all students and leading to astounding results, including the closure of up to 50% of the opportunity gap. She highlights the importance of the individualized, caring relationship between a student and their dedicated adult tutor. Katherine, a former newcomer student who became a bilingual special education teacher, defines the shift to the more asset-based term, "emergent multilingual learner" (EML), which values all a student's languages rather than ranking them. We discuss the misconception that math is a universal language, needing no language support. We delve into the concrete, "bite-sized" strategies SAGA uses to train its diverse workforce of tutors—from recent college graduates to career changers—to effectively support EMLs without needing a deep education background. These effective, implementable strategies include using visual aids to provide context and reduce language barriers , and offering sentence frames to help students articulate their mathematical understanding. The conversation also emphasizes the value of translanguaging, where tutors encourage students to use all the languages in their linguistic repertoire to better cement knowledge. Finally, we address the role of AI in quickly generating translations and customized strategies, while emphasizing that the crucial human element of cultural responsiveness and building trust remains paramount. Key Takeaways: High-Impact Tutoring is a Proven Solution: SAGA's in-school model closes up to 50% of the opportunity gap. Math is Not Language-Proof: Math contains complex language, and even differences in punctuation (like using a comma instead of a decimal) can pose barriers for EMLs. Small, Actionable Strategies Work: Tutors are trained using micro-learnings on implementable skills like providing visuals and sentence frames, which benefit all students, not just EMLs. Translanguaging is Empowering: Encouraging students to use all their languages (e.g., Spanglish) helps them grasp and transfer mathematical concepts more effectively. The Human Connection is Essential: Cultural responsiveness, including pronouncing a student's name correctly, builds the trust and respect that is fundamental to high-impact tutoring. Why You Should Listen: If you care about equity in education and the future of the teaching workforce, this episode provides a clear, evidence-based look at one of the most effective interventions available today. We offer practical, actionable insights into supporting multilingual learners in subjects often presumed to be language-independent. In June of 2025, hospice and palliative care pioneer Ira Byock published a white paper outlining the urgent challenges facing the field today. In a nutshell, he expressed concerns that the quality of hospice care in the United States has become highly variable, with disturbing frequency of unethical practices and avaricious owners. He also raised concern that the rapid increase in palliative care program growth during the first two decades of this century has stalled, leaving us with understaffed programs that are often inadequately trained. Along with Ira, we've invited Kristi Newport, a palliative care doctor and Chief Medical Officer of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and Brynn Bowman, Chief Executive Officer of the Center to Advance Palliative Care, to discuss these issues and outline a strategic path forward for the field. In particular we talk about Ira's four-part solution to transform the field and restore its integrity: (1) publishing clear clinical and programmatic standards, (2) making meaningful data publicly available to ensure transparency and accountability, (3) fostering quality-based competition among providers, and (4) embracing the authentic brand of hospice and palliative care—expert care that alleviates suffering and fosters well-being. So take a listen and dive a little deeper with these resources, and dont forget, you too can get involved in AAHPM (click here for opportunities): Ira's paper titled "A Strategic Path Forward for Hospice and Palliative Care: A White Paper on the Potential Future of the Field" Our previous podcast on "Is Hospice Losing Its Way" Our previous podcast on Private Equity Gobbling Up Hospices plus Hospice and Dementia with Melissa Aldridge, Krista Harrison, & Lauren Hunt CAPC's Serious Ilness Scorecard - a state-by-state look at palliative care capacity CAPC's second annual Palliative Pulse survey offers insight into how palliative care professionals across the country are feeling this year and what they're focused on National Hospice Locator and TCMTalks Podcast by Chris Comeaux and Cordt Kassner

Ruth: Week 5 - Transactions, Marriages, and Descendants / Pastor Jeff Bowman by Hope City Church
Soviet Communist dictator Vladimir Lenin promised, “Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted.” New York Communist-Islamist Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani reportedly is “all but assured” to entrust the teaching of his city's children to former Congressman Jamaal Bowman. Such an appointment would be an early indicator of just how radical Mamdami's regime will be. After all, Bowman formerly ran a radical leftist school in the Bronx in which “social justice” took precedence over academic performance. For example, cop-killers were lionized while the vast majority of his students were not proficient in English and math. America is already reckoning with the cumulative effects of leftists dominating our educational institutions for several generations. God help New Yorkers, and the rest of us, if their schools are further weaponized by Comrades Mamdani and Bowman. This is Frank Gaffney.
