This episode was the hardest of all to record. Probably the hardest to hear too. Welcome to the final two episodes of the season. We’re going to close this season out with my friend Lloyd. We met 5 years ago when his Million Dollar Teacher Project came into my life.Together we have big plans and want to see the world in a better place in terms of education. I work with this light, named Rico. Always present, a smile.He’s warm, seems loving and caring. He also has a edge. A toughness that says maybe he’s not the best person to pick a bar fight with. Turns out boxing is one of his biggest loves, and he found it at a time in his life where he was filled with the most hate, and rage. Teenage years were not easy for Rico. I can’t imagine being ripped out of my house at 14 and taken away from everything I knew. He HAS OVERCOME. He has a message of hope for anyone thinking they have limited options. Much love Rico for sharing so honestly.

I was really excited to sit down with this dude. I had so many questions, there were so many things that he’s had to deal with that would break most. He’s not broken. He’s sure of himself, but open to learning more. He’s confident and has fully accepted his “NEW LIFE” after meeting Priscilla years ago. This is a great episode because we get to talk to a father about parenting his down child, and what its like to gain a daughter out of the gate. He is more proof that we can have something happen to us as kids, experience that,but set it down and not bring it into our future relationships.

Blaine is a talented music man. That is not why he is here. He has the voice of an angel, that is NOT why he is here either. Parenting, is the subject at hand. Specifically being a father to two adopted kiddos. We’ll talk about his own parents and how they impacted his style. Plus find out why he chooses to not have them in his life. A courageous step in finding yourself. Too many of us stay in relationships with poisonous people. STOP. Even if they are your family, that is not a good enough reason to eat something that will kill you AND the others around you.

When I met Dean, we had instant chemistry. Its easy to be with him, he has an exciting life,and isn’t shy about sharing that, which I love.The real reason he’s here, is to bring prospective. His kids are older,so we get a chance to “Look Back.” Plus he told me when I asked him to be on Fathers Like Me that, “90% the things I’ve learned are because of the things I messed up.” In every aspect of the world, asking someone wiser that you can be helpful. He lost his father 10 years ago and it's still tough. He faked on him for everything. Now, he flat out makes shit up and tells his kids "Your Grandpa said this...". Plus we take a closer look at flying, he does that for a living.

Matt is perhaps the oldest friend in my life who I still talk with on a regular basis. We agree on some shit, completely disagree on other things, but at the core is a deep respect for each other. This is our only crying episode of the season; he goes first, then me.

We have a lot in common, our dads both died when we were young, we love Niccoli... Okay so two things but they are BIG. It was fun to hear how my wife was raised and interesting to hear a veteran father talk about things.

Season 1 is in the books, parenting with a sense of urgency, owning your piece. Two critical pieces of being a good parent. This season is going to look al little different as I interview “DADS I DIG”

In this final episode of series one, we cover a LOT of ground. I have to own my piece after I broke my own rule. Plus, this question, "What kind of father do you want to be, through your kids eyes?"

This week we get a few look at parenting though the eyes of Sinbad, Andi Grammer and Mark McGrath. They all have a common thread and we'll explore that a bit more. Then my friend Kari Maughan drops by with her 4th and 5th tip to avoid YELLING AND SCREAMING and how we can do a better job of letting out KIDS do the learning.
