Today we're celebrating the end of 2021 and another year of Viall Files! In this episode we'll go through some highlights from the year, talking about highs, controversies, regrets, and everything in-between! We start off this episode by highlighting things that happened in our lives: from vibrating underwear, butterflies, and Meatball-gate! We also highlight interviews such as with Tinx, Steve-O, Andy Grammer, and Olivia O'Brien. Each interview taught us something unique about love and life and we wanted to show the best moments in conversation. We talk some regrets from this year, where we could have gone deeper with Katie speaking poorly of Thomas and Nikki explaining a theory from a book she read that, at the time, made our heads turn. Next we thank all of our Ask Nick callers and highlight some great takeaways from the year. We close with discussing the controversy with Gaslighting and the various conversations we had to find out when to use a term and the benefits and harm in defining a behavior.  Thank you so much for listening this year! We look forward to 2022!  Please make sure to subscribe so you don't miss an episode and as always send in your relationship questions to asknick@kastmedia.com to be a part of our Monday episodes.  Check out our new "Introvert" merch at www.viallfiles.com today! We had the pleasure of interviewing The National Parks over Zoom video! Folk-influenced male/female indie pop band The National Parks has released the official music video for their latest single, “Live Til We Die,” off their recently released album, A Mix For The End Of The World – Part 1. The fun and colorful visual, directed by Cameron Gade with cinematographer Spencer Goff, sees the Provo, UT-based quartet take a step back in time to a 1980s-style late night talk show. On the heels of the album's release earlier this month, The National Parks successfully launched their very own curated festival experience, Superbloom Music Festival, on Saturday, October 9th . The first-ever event took place under the stars near Zion National Park at Sand Hollow Resort in Southern Utah in front of a soldout crowd of nearly 2,000. Created by the band as a celebration of life and music set amid a beautiful location, Superbloom featured performances from Yoke Lore, Joseph, Joshua James, Ellee Duke, Brother. and Arbour Season before The National Parks closed out the day-long extravaganza. A Mix For The End Of The World – Part 1, released October 8th, marks the first half of the independent band's two-part digital-only project, which will see Part 2 released in early 2022. The 8-track collection, recorded at June Audio and produced and mixed by their longtime collaborator Scott Wiley, also features the singles “Headlights,” “Summer Bird” and “UFO,” the latter of which was recently featured on Ones To Watch's Now Playing playlist. A Mix For The End Of The World follows The National Parks' critically acclaimed 2020 album Wildflower and continues to showcase the band's sonic evolution and lead vocalist/guitarist Brady Parks' deep and heartfelt songwriting. Since emerging in 2013 with their introductory album Young, The National Parks — Brady Parks [guitar, vocals], Sydney Macfarlane [keys, vocals], Cam Brannelly [drums] and Megan Parks [violin] — have quietly grown into an independent phenomenon with roots embedded in blissful pop, cinematic electronics, organic orchestration, and rock energy. The four-piece has racked up over 150 million total streams, sold out headlining shows across the country, toured with Andy Grammer, Peter Bjorn and John and WILD, and performed at KAABOO Del Mar, SXSW and CMJ. We had the pleasure of interviewing Andy Grammer over Zoom video! Andy just released a new single, “Damn It Feels Good To Be Me”, which will be featured on his new album coming out in early 2022. Of the track, Andy said, “I'm just at a point in life where I don't care what I'm not and I'm happy being me. I want this song to be for those who have come to that point in their life where they're just FINALLY enjoying the freedom of self-acceptance.“ A bit about Andy: he's not your typical optimist. Andy's ability to always look for the good stems from the pain of losing his mother at the age of 25. It broke him into a million pieces but gave him empathy that he wouldn't have had otherwise. He channels optimism in his music and spreads good energy to everyone around him. While on tour (before the pandemic), he had open discussions with his fans during meet-and-greets and on stage where they shared experiences that hurt them the most, how they grew from them and what they learned from them. It led to incredibly powerful moments, some of which he documented in his “Wish You Pain” video. We want to hear from you! Live Sound Bootcamp is on our Podcast network and hosted by Ryan O John, Brendan Dreaper, and Joe Santarpia.  In this episode, the hosts catch up with Michael Lawrence, a freelance audio engineer well known for his work with the Signal to Noise podcast, as well as his incredibly geeky articles for Live Sound International and ProSoundWeb, Smaart webinars, and of course, his work as a systems engineer. He discusses his career path, provides some great tips on reading and reference material, and offers valuable hints and suggestions for people looking to get into systems engineering and design. He also talks about how to communicate effectively with system engineers.Make sure you check out and subscribe to their podcast for more great episodes like this one.Live Sound Bootcamp is sponsored by Rational Acoustics.About The Hosts:Ryan O John is a musician turned engineer, turned product designer, turned podcast host. He was playing instruments by 5 years old, with his first shows at age 12, recording his own albums by 13, and touring by 16 — he leans heavily toward the geeky side of sound. From small local clubs to international stadiums, metal to pop, Ryan's career in live sound mixing has covered a lot of ground traveling the world with a ton of artists including Jessie J, Andy Grammer, Tove Lo, Banks, Liam Payne, Capital Cities and many more. Beyond just touring with pop and rock acts, he also designs audio consoles and software, mix records, and race cars. After Brendan Dreaper picked up the drums in middle school, live music became an important part of his life. With a number of diversions under his belt, which included studying economics and working as a professional glassblower, he returned to music and found his footing behind the mixing console. Working from bar gigs to local festivals and eventually to touring with Magic! and Snoh Aalegra, Brendan has had the pleasure of making live music happen. Outside of geeking out about live sound on a podcast, he likes to play drums with the band vverevvolf, produce music and get real nerdy about anything Lord of the Rings related. The third member of the trio, Joe Santarpia, is a live sound and recording/mixing engineer of 15 years, tour manager, musician and producer. His touring resume includes Mac Demarco, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Connan Mockasin, Best Coast, Surfer Blood, Inner Circle and others. Joe was a former staff engineer at Circle House Studios in Miami, FL and Faultline Studios (RIP) in San Francisco. during his free time he is an electronics hobbyist and recreational ice hockey player.
