Have you ever tried to change by simply thinking a new thought, only to feel frustrated when the change doesn't happen as easily as promised? The idea that if you just change your thoughts, you can change your life has been a cornerstone of personal development for years. But what if it's not the whole story? In this episode, I'm revisiting a concept from an early episode, where I taught "thinking a new thought" as the key to change. While this cognitive behavioral approach helped many of my clients, I now realize how incomplete it is. Our experience is shaped by much more than our thoughts. It's influenced by our nervous system, memories, trauma, and even cultural systems. I'll explain why thought work is useful but not enough, and why real change involves understanding the deeper layers beneath our thoughts. Emily has had a two-decades-long career at the BBC as an award-winning journalist, and she shares her journey from being a transactional listener to embracing deep listening, highlighting its effect on her personal relationships and professional environments. Over the years, I've spent lots of time in hospitals as we navigate keeping Craig healthy despite his genetic heart issues. This past week was another week spent in the hospital for us and even though we've done this so many more times than we would like… Every time I come out with a new perspective in someway or a new thoughts on really how to keep your health as the highest priority in life and what I think is the best way to keep all your records and information organized and how to advocate for yourself. One of my favorite things about podcasting and connecting with friends is sharing experiences because we're all in different situations every day so we learn different things. I'm grateful to have the opportunity to share our journey and the tips and lessons from being in such extreme situation at times and the take-aways that I think are most valuable to everyone. We're talking about keeping good notes, showing gratitude to those helping you, staying calm and not letting overwhelming emotions take over and prioritizing the entire family when anyone is going through something hard. -Email for health records -Notes on your phone for each person- one for overall history and one more meds/supplements -Book with everything printed -Being realistic but optimistic -Caring for whole family (Craig kept telling me to go be with the kids) -Letting people know whats going on in your world so you get the extra support -Stay strong minded and not weak - people help you more -Ask questions and take notes -Know people's names, show gratitude in anyway you can -Keep loving & doing normal feeling things through it -Even if nobody has issues - keep good records as you go -Even if you have so many years so go through - loop in doctors to help you -Push for doctors to connect with each other -Consider concierge if you need it -Get your team of doctors going before you really need it -Keep health a top priority by reminding yourself that it is a top priority - on your weekly list of things to do -Don't wait when you feel like something is off -Don't eat hospital food - it's not good enough for when you're healing -Do your own research for little things that can help- and ask doctors - juicing, supplements etc. -Lay out clearly who you are the health quarterback for, then do all of this for them. It's your most important job. CHEERS to us, the health quarterbacks!
Two leading rheumatologists share insights into why RF levels are important to consider when identifying treatment options for patients with RA.
Have you ever noticed how some thoughts just keep popping up, even when you're not trying to think them? It's like they're on autopilot, running quietly in the background while you go about your day. And it's not just the good thoughts, either. It's often the worries, the doubts, and those sneaky self-criticisms that feel like they've set up camp in our minds. As moms, we juggle so much, and it can feel like our minds are always full. We've got thoughts about the kids, work, our relationships, and that never-ending list of things we feel we should be doing better. And even if we try to focus on the positive, those familiar thoughts seem to stick around, don't they? The good news is that we can change this. We can create new ways of thinking and start shifting our focus toward things that empower us rather than hold us back. But it does take a little intention and patience. This week, I'm going to discuss why our thoughts keep us stuck and how to move toward new thoughts. You can read the full show notes HERE

Destructive thoughts come from a dark dangerous place. The Good News is that Jesus transfers you AND your thoughts to a new place. In Pivot Driven Devotions, you'll experience nearly 90 Bible accounts of the pivots people took to listen, to take one small step, or to make a tiny change that made a huge difference. Are you looking to bring new energy and passion to your Bible study and time with God? Get this devotional today with your gift of any amount. Something To Think About Series #107 Thought of the day from Venerable Robina Courtin
Morning Mantra: “You can't have a new reality with an old mentality.”In other words, you can't change things with the same thoughts and actions that keep you where you are. If you think things can't change, they won't. If you think things won't work out, they won't.If what you have been doing is not working, it's time to start doing and thinking in a new way- in a different way. So, starting today you're going to take responsibility for what you're thinking. Begin by starting to appreciate and notice the little things in life, the blessings, the glimmers, the joy. You're going to learn from the past instead of dwelling on it, and you're going to be excited about the future instead of fearing it.You're going to trust yourself to make the right decisions based on who you want to be and where you want to be.If you're willing to change your thinking, you can change your feelings. If you change your feelings, you will change your actions. When you change your actions, based on good thinking, you will change your life.#BeAwareOfYourThoughts #BeHappy #BeHippie #MorningMantra #WordsToInspire #InspirationalQuotes #SmallBusinessOwner #WomenOwned #HorseHippie #HorsehippieBoutique
Happy New Year everyone! As always, THANK YOU for listening, we KNOW your time is valuable, and we hope you find enough value from this that you tune in regularly.Like many of you, this past year has been incredibly transitional for Kim and I. We had some BIG CHANGES.I remember a few months ago Kim asked me a question I'm not sure she asked me before:"Are we going to be OK?" The answer by the way was YES, and I meant it, it wasn't a buffered answer.New home.New town.New schools.New businesses.New partners.New relationships.New opportunities.New goals. And crazy enough, through this year of transition and transformation of our personal and professional life, and through the moments of chaos that come from all that change, we've found more direction and peace then we have for awhile. We talk decompression, hibernation, getting clear and focused, slowing life down to actually speed up what we want to be intentional on.We talk all about this change and how the way in which we operated the past 10 years set us up to have a successful transition to two brand new businesses.I think integrity, how you act, your moral compass, it all matters, and as long as you feel good about your decisions, walk in confidence.Kim said it best: "Just because you make a decision that doesn't align with someone else, doesn't make you wrong." Bingo. And remember to listen to the end when Kim gives some incredible JOURNAL prompts for you to practice. Thanks for listening everyone! The zealous slothful have run on, although there are still two coming in the rear, "biting" the penitents from behind with warnings about sloth. After that, the pilgrim Dante has a new thought--curiously undefined--which leads him into his second dream in PURGATORIO.Join me, Mark Scarbrough, as we finish off Canto XVIII and leave our pilgrim to his slumbers. Here are the segments for this episode of WALKING WITH DANTE:[01:30] My English translation of the passage: PURGATORIO, Canto XVIII, lines 130 - 145. Thinking new thoughts is not always as simple as plucking out the old thought and inserting a new thought. If you don't prepare your mind for the new thought… it doesn't grow. If you don't pull out the roots of the icky thought… it resurfaces. Mind renewal takes a little bit of thought and effort, but it is so worth it! We tend to think of winning or losing as black or white. It's one or the other. What if that didn't have to be the case?Welcome to the second episode in the New Year, New Thoughts series. In this episode, I'm talking all about chapter 3 of How to Lose Weight for the Last Time - reframing losing. I'm reading some small sections from the book and then going even deeper right here on the podcast, so whether you've read the book or not, you'll get a lot out of this episode. The concept of reframing losing is an important one because it opens us up to so many opportunities. This is the first episode in the New Year, New Thoughts series that I'm hosting here on the podcast.I'm rejecting the concept of “new year, new you,” because I don't think you need to be a new you. I think it's okay to accept yourself just the way you are right now. In this series, I'll be elaborating on some of the chapters from my book, How to Lose Weight for the Last Time: Brain-Based Solutions for Permanent Weight Loss. I'll talk about what is said in the book, and then I'll dive deeper into it here on the podcast. This episode is all about chapter 2, “Emotional Eating: Why You Always Want Food,” and we're talking about how to change your food-related thoughts. If you ever feel powerless against your thoughts about food, this episode is for you.All show notes are available at https://katrinaubellmd.com/podcast!!Resources Mentioned:Weight Loss for Doctors Only: katrinaubellmd.com/infoLeave a Review of My Book: https://a.co/d/4BwGZ6v
