Last week we emphasize Passover, because that passage of scripture that we spoke of dealt extensively with Passover, and we saw that there was what would be called a Tikkun, or a repair. Well, our theme in this portion of the Book of Numbers is going to be Passover. Now we're going to see that primarily Passover is in the first month on the Biblical calendar. We are called to always respect God and live in a way that manifests the fear of the Lord before him. And this is important, because if we're going to hear from God and serve God and be found faithful before God, we need to demonstrate a reverence for him in everything that we do. The people of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, they suffered greatly. The children of Israel suffered greatly at the hands of the Babylonians and those other nations that joined with Babylon to bring destruction to the Jewish people the city of Jerusalem and also the temple. When we are going through a period of God's punishment or discipline, when we are experiencing His judgment upon us, it affects how we think and it affects how we believe. We learn biblically that our God is a blessed God. What does that mean? It means that the God of Israel wants to bless his people, and when I say his people, my intent is everyone who is in a covenantal relationship with Him. The writer of Lamentations wants us to know the harsh anger of the Lord that he takes disobedience very seriously, and there is a high price to pay for those who turn away from God and embrace falsehood, those who act in such a way, whether we're talking about 2000 years ago or more or today, God is the same, and his punishment and judgment and anger will be displayed against Those who behave in such a way. Our God is majestic. He is wonderful, and he is always faithful. And one of the things we encounter, especially in those four gospels, is that frequently he looks at someone who is suffering, someone who is in need, and the scripture says repeatedly that he was moved with compassion, and that compassion caused him to do a miracle. If you are going to be a spiritual leader in a local congregation or in any way at all, your family is going to be watched, and that's Biblically sound, meaning that God wants people who are in leadership to have a family that demonstrates a submissiveness to the Word of God, and when children, for example, are rebellious and they do not do what the Word of God commands, that reflects poorly upon The father, and that fact may indeed disqualify him from being a leader in a local congregation or in some spiritual position that is biblical, and we're going to be looking at a man today that although he was the spiritual leader of Israel, he certainly did not have godly children. The consequences of sin are severe when one disobeys God. Doesn't matter who that person is. When one does not fulfill the purposes of God, that disobedience, that rebelliousness, is going to bring about great suffering and pain, both inwardly emotionally but also physically. Are in the midst of a study of the book of Numbers, and I've made mention to you that that name of that book in Hebrew is ba ba mid bar, and bamid bar means in the desert or in the wilderness, and it presupposes a few things. We all know the biblical principle, watch out what you sow, because you will reap that which you sow, meaning that there is a consequence to sin and rebellion. And now in this book of Lamentations, we are seeing that Israel primarily Judah, that Southern Kingdom and the holy city of Jerusalem. They are reaping what they have sown and what have they sown, idolatry. We are ready to begin a very exciting journey, a journey through what is commonly referred to as the book of Lamentations. And in my opinion, this book, although it's rather short, just five chapters, is one of the most spiritual books in the Hebrew Bible, or we could say the Old Testament.
