The Atlantic sees Israel wrestling with an identity crisis, but from a prophetic perspective the crisis is far more serious than a battle between secular Jews, religious Zionists and the Haredim. Israel was called out by God, told to dwell alone, and warned against placing its trust in the nations around it. The counterfeit is exposed, the nations gather, Israel is brought to the end of its own strength, and Jesus Christ returns as the only KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS who can actually deliver the remnant nation that God chose for His own. Read Psalm 73:12-17. The psalmist has a complaint, a question, a frustration. 'Is there any advantage, any reward for following the Lord? I don’t see it. It’s not working for me and those that defy God seem to be doing just fine.' The psalmist struggled with this until he remembered the future. God promises righteous be rewarded, evil will be punished. There are a lot of days it doesn’t seem like it. And that can be discouraging and demotivating. The psalmist found his faith by remembering the future. Those who choose sin will come to terror and destruction, and only the life of faith in Christ will be rewarded. For the psalmist this was a distant idea. The Revelation presents it to us as soon and coming. Today we look at what is the Great Tribulation.

The judgments described in Revelation are sobering. Seal after seal reveals war, famine, death, persecution, upheaval, and divine judgment against a world hardened in rebellion. In today's episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef points to the Lamb of God as the central figure in this unfolding vision. Jesus Christ alone is worthy to open the scroll because through His death and resurrection He has conquered sin, Satan, and death. History is not spiraling out of control—it is moving toward the triumph of its rightful King. As the seals and trumpets unfold, Revelation also offers powerful reassurance to God's people. The martyrs are heard. The faithful are sealed. God knows those who belong to Him, and no force of evil can overturn His purposes or snatch His people from His hand. The judgments of Revelation are therefore not meant to paralyze believers with fear. They are meant to awaken urgency, strengthen hope, and remind us that Christ will ultimately establish His righteous rule. Jesus said that when these things begin to happen, His people should “stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” So rather than living in dread, make every day count for Christ. Take heart. Your King is victorious, your redemption is secure, and your destiny is glory. Join me in prayer. Continuing the series on the Second Coming, Dr. William Lane Craig examines the Preterist view, the position, defended by scholars including G. B. Caird, R. T. France, and N. T. Wright, that the coming of the Son of Man predicted in Jesus' Olivet Discourse already happened in AD 70 with the destruction of Jerusalem. On this reading, the Great Tribulation was the horror of the Roman siege of Jerusalem, and the apocalyptic imagery of Mark 13 (e.g., darkened sun, falling stars) is symbolic language paralleled in Isaiah 13, Ezekiel 32, and Peter's Pentecost sermon in Acts 2, not a literal description of the end. Dr. Craig walks through the Preterist case, including its appeal to Daniel 7 for the Son of Man's heavenly enthronement rather than an earthly return, and explains why Mark 13:30, "this generation will not pass away," is really what drives the view. He finds it initially attractive for solving that verse, but ultimately unpersuasive: like the Rapture view, Preterism ends up requiring an invisible coming of Christ before his final return.

GIANTS AND WATCHERS will execute God's judgment on the prophesied Day of the Lord. Isaiah 13 is, on the surface, a prophecy of judgment on Babylon. But there are clues in this chapter that there's more to this prophecy than meets the eye. First, the Hebrew verb translated “consecrated” (as in “consecrated ones,” Isaiah 13:3) is based on the same root behind the words “holy one/s” in Daniel 4:13 and 17, used in parallel with “Watcher/s” in those verses. Given that the Septuagint translates Hebrew gibborim (“mighty men”) as “giants,” it's possible that the “consecrated ones” of Isaiah 13:3 are Watchers—a powerful class of angel often tasked with carrying out God's will (as in Daniel 4). As a whole, Isaiah 13 is an “already but not yet” prophecy of the destruction of Babylon. The “already” took place roughly 150 years after Isaiah wrote this prophecy when Cyrus the great captured the city the night of Belshazzar's drunken feast. The future fulfillment comes on the Day of the Lord, which we believe takes place at the end of the seven year Great Tribulation. In addition, there are hints of the supernatural fulfillment of the “not yet” part of the prophecy. Isaiah 13:20–22 foretells a day when Babylon is utterly destroyed, becoming a haunt of supernatural creatures. That's not apparent in most English translations, but digging into the Hebrew and Greek reveals more of Isaiah's original vision: Babylon inhabited forever by demons, sirens, satyrs, and dragons. In Revelation 11, our attention is being focused on events during the last 3.5 years of the tribulation. This is a time Jesus called “The Great Tribulation” and immediately precedes His Second Coming. During this period (the story of which is recounted from Revelation 11-19), the Trumpet and Bowl judgments fall from heaven upon humanity. HAGGAI, ZECHARIAH and MALACHI It is an unfortunate misconception that because these books are called "The Minor Prophets, as their relevance to our lives is also minor." This couldn't be further from the truth! The richness of life's lessons and our prophetic hope permeate every word. Don't be tricked into missing these overwhelmingly rich studies. In the book of Haggai we see God sending the prophet Haggai to challenge the people to rebuild which led to a significant turning point in their history. Haggia's audience was the remnant. (They were not unbelievers.) They were the right people, living in the right place, wanting to do the right work, and for the right reasons. But their priorities were not right. They were caught up in their own pursuits. They were living for themselves rather than for God's glory. [Isn't that us?] Zechariah is often called the Apocalypse of the OT, it presents the Messiah as: The Branch who will remove iniquity, The Stone, His Throne, His Temple, The Coming King, The Shepherd, The Triumphal Entry, on a donkey, His Betrayal for 30 pieces of silver, His Crucifixion, and His Second Coming: looking upon me whom they pierced. It also focuses on the Day of YHWH, the return of Israel in unbelief, and their passing through the Great Tribulation; the siege of Jerusalem by the confederated Gentile powers, and their deliverance by King Messiah. Zechariah also gives us the only physical description of the Antichrist in the Scripture. [It also seems to suggest a neutron bomb in Chapter 14.] It also may hold the solution to the enigma of Mystery Babylon and its relation to literal Babylon in prophecy. Malachi means ''my messengers.'' Malachi ministered in the fifth century b.c., about 100 years after Cyrus had issued the decree in 538 b.c. which permitted Jews to return from exile to Judah.
