As our first season of Creative Content for a Cause starts to wrap up for our BIG season finale, we thought what better way to show how effective the samurai lifestyle and bushido code is by talking to someone who lives by it day in and day out. Tu Lam, more well known as Ronin Tactics, is a former Army Sergeant Major who served in the Army special forces for over 20 years. During his time in the military, he traveled to multiple different to protect and serve others while also serving multiple tours overseas in the middle east. Eventually, everything that he's been through in the Army caught up to him. Ronin was facing some dark times when he decided to pick up the Book of the Five Rings, a book by world-renown samurai Miyamoto Musashi. And ever since that day he hasn't looked back since. During this podcast we talked about everything from his upbringing to military service but most importantly what is a Ronin, what is bushido, and how living the way of the samurai has worked for him to have a very successful spiritual and fulfilling life. This is one podcast you won't want to miss! Before you check out Ronin Tactics, be sure to check out the Colorado Veterans Project as well as the upcoming Memorial Day Ruck March to see what GREAT things their doing for the veteran community in Colorado! In this episode of our Creative Content for a Cause series, Danielle sits down with Joshua Ross and Ryan Bellegante, two amazing individuals who both are masters of martial arts that were practiced by Japan's greatest warriors, the samurai. Joshua Ross started his martial arts career in Kendo in the pacific northwest in 2004. He spent three years practicing kendo in Bellevue before moving to Japan. Over the course of two years living in Japan, Josh Sensei earned his Ni-dan rank in Kendo (2nd degree black belt). Josh found Nami Ryu Aiki Heiho in 2009 when he was looking for an art which truly resembled the samurai’s skill set. Josh Sensei returned to Japan in 2010 and studied under Kuroda Tetsuzan Sensei at the Shinbukan Kuroda Dojo. He continues to drain directly under Williams Sensei and continues to be a student of Shinbukan Kuroda Dojo. Ryan Bellegante started at a very young age studying and training in karate and migrated to aikido in his teens. However, feeling the void in unarmed martial arts, his love of the sword drew out his search in his college years. Finding out about Nami ryu, Ryan made the decision in 2003 to move to Encinitas and build his entire life around training at the Nami ryu Hombu Dojo. Training at the dojo 5 days or more a week, Ryan Bellegante rapidly progressed in his training, and became an instructor in record time……but not without putting in all the hours of training and sweat equity needed to learn and own the basics. Opening his own dojo back home in Reno in 2008, Ryan added trips to Japan to study with Kuroda Tetsuzan sensei along with other senior Nami ryu instructors in the koryu Shinbukan Kuroda family arts. His dedication to the sword arts and all things Samurai is the gold Ryan has mined in his training, the culmination of a childhood dream turned into effort and delivered results. Both Joshua and Ryan have VAST amount of knowledge and experience in the samurai marital arts and it was SUCH a fun experience sitting down and talking to them. We even learned a thing or two from the samurai lifestyle they embrace that everyone can implement into their lives.
