Send us a textThis week on Here's What We Know, we're joined by Steve Griggs, founder of Steve Griggs Design, who has earned a reputation as one of New York's most respected landscape designers, known not just for his designs but for how he shows up for the people he serves. We'll explore where he came from, how he found his calling, and why the work he does is more art than architecture. We also get into college football rivalries, pricing creative work, learning the hard way, and what it really means to be “the guy” people trust when things get complicated. This episode is relaxed, funny, honest, and full of those little moments that remind you why experience still matters and why good work always starts with caring. Tune in now.In this episode, we talk about:Why creating outdoor spaces is really about people, not projectsThe difference between talent and experienceThe truth about pricing creative work and saying, “it costs what it costs”How to think about money when the work is personalWhy execution matters more than the ideaWhat decades of doing the hard jobs teach youBecoming the person people trust when things get hardThis episode is sponsored by:Reed Animal Hospital (Be sure to tell them Gary sent you!)Bio:Steve Griggs is not your typical landscape designer. He has been getting dirt on his hands since he was 16, cutting grass to earn extra money and learning the value of hard work early on. That work ethic carried him through advanced landscaping studies at Mississippi State University and SUNY Cobleskill College of Environmental Design and Horticulture. At 25, Steve founded Steve Griggs Design after working alongside his father in the industry, where he absorbed core values that still guide his work today: make no excuses, keep your promises, respect the deadline, and always deliver for the client. When he saw those principles missing in much of the industry, he chose to do things differently. That commitment to a customer-first approach has earned Steve a reputation as one of New York's most respected landscape designers, known not just for his designs but for how he shows up for the people he serves.Website: https://stevegriggsdesign.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/stevegriggsdesign/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZ3rPHh3yC3FgzQ_nw9xenwLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/public-profile/in/stevegriggsdesign/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SteveGriggsDesignConnect with Gary: Gary's Website Follow Gary on Instagram Gary's Tiktok Gary's Facebook Watch the episodes on YouTube Advertise on the Podcast Thank you for listening. This week, I talk with Parker Palmer in one of the most intimate and expansive conversations I've had on Good Work. Parker is an author, activist, and teacher whose ideas have shaped generations. But what moves me most is his honesty. We talk about the winding path that led him from academic life to community organizing to a Quaker learning community where he rebuilt his inner world. We explore discernment, solitude, “Circles of Trust”, and what it means to listen to the voice of your soul—especially in seasons of burnout or heartbreak. At 86, Parker reflects on aging, democracy, vocation, and his belief that the heart can break in two ways: it can shatter, or it can break open into greater capacity. If you've ever felt pulled toward a path you “can't not do,” or if your inner life is asking more of you right now, this conversation is for you. Let's get to it! In this episode: (00:00) – Intro (00:42) – “Deep in the oatmeal” and the role of humor in a serious life (02:11) – How Parker's spiritual life slowly took shape (13:08) – Choosing to stay at Pendle Hill—and what that meant for Parker's family (23:45) – How to tell the difference between a passing idea and a true calling (31:40) – A radically different way of being in community (40:45) – Why presence matters more than fixing (52:35) – The unlikely beginnings of the Center for Courage & Renewal (01:05:17) – What 30 years of building an organization has taught Parker (01:15:06) – Solitude, nature, and marriage as sustaining practices (01:22:31) – Aging, loss, and staying open to what's next (01:30:39) – The two ways a heart can break Get full show notes and links at https://GoodWorkShow.com. For years, firms like MicroStrategy turned buying Bitcoin into a corporate cheat code—raising billions, pumping token prices, and fueling meme-driven hype. But the magic loop has snapped. In this video, we break down why the “infinite money glitch” stopped working, how leveraged ETFs magnified losses, and why even Michael Saylor is now hoarding dollars. From gamma trades to meme economics, this is the story of how hype capitalism hit a wall.Zeke Faux on Good Work : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exoNex2Yn5wPatrick's Books:Statistics For The Trading Floor: https://amzn.to/3eerLA0Derivatives For The Trading Floor: https://amzn.to/3cjsyPFCorporate Finance: https://amzn.to/3fn3rvC Ways To Support The Channel:Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/PatrickBoyleOnFinanceBuy Me a Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/patrickboyle

Mer om Johanhttps://www.johanstohne.se/In collaboration with Nobel Week Lights.Read more https://www.nobelprizemuseum.se/en/nobel-week-lights/___Keep Up the Good Work. Wolfe Design Studio is led by architect and artist Alexander Wolfe. His work blends art, architecture, and design through collaboration with a network of creators, builders, and technicians.Like Rabindranath Tagore's poetry, the artwork explores themes of memory and harmony. Discarded streetlamps from the Transport Department are transformed by the artist Wolfe Design Studio into a glowing responsive landscape. The streetlamps illuminate the path, linger and slowly fade after each passerby, creating a gently pulsating environment that responds to human presence. An interactive soundscape including interpretations of Tagore's poems read aloud by youths from the local hub Tensta Tech, can also be heard from within the installation. The artwork is designed for all ages and invites the audience to engage with the urban landscape in a playful way. Streetlamp Grove Tensta is about connection, presence, and shared wonder.More about Studio Wolfehttps://wolfe.se/In collaboration with Nobel Week Lights.Read more https://www.nobelprizemuseum.se/en/nobel-week-lights/___Keep Up the Good Work. This week, I talk with Jeff Sheldon, designer and founder of Ugmonk. Jeff's story is about more than building a successful brand—it's about choosing craft over scale and staying true to what you love. We talk about why he turned down Shark Tank at the peak of a viral Kickstarter, how his childhood love of drawing grew into a career in design, and what he's learned about perfectionism, entrepreneurship, and the emotional cost of mastery. We also explore the quieter parts of his journey: the role his marriage has played, his philosophy of work and life, and how he continues to create intentionally 16 years in. I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Sunday morning, the 30th of November, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go to the Book of Ephesians 4:28: ”Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labour, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need.”I want to speak today about the blue-collar worker. We want to speak today about the manual labourer. Never despise a person who works with their hands, whether it is a man or a woman. You know that Jesus was one of them, wasn't He? That's right, He was a carpenter. He was not a priest, He was a carpenter. Adam was the first farmer in the Bible, so was Noah. Noah was a farmer, Abraham was a farmer, Isaac and Jacob were farmers. Peter, James and John were fishermen. Mary was a housewife. She was the mother of the Saviour of the world. She had more impact on our Master's upbringing than anybody else, a mother who looked after her babies.I want to say to you today, the mechanic, the miner, the road-worker, the electrician, the blacksmith, the boiler-maker, the cabinet maker, the cook - these are ordinary people who make the world go around. Oh yes! Oh yes! Never criticise a farmer with your mouth full! You have heard of that saying before, because if you have no food to eat, you are going to die. I want to tell you a little story. When I gave my life to Christ, my wife and I, it was a long time ago, it was on the 18th of February 1979, and I was so excited when I met the Saviour. I went home and I said to Jill, “We are going to give the farm away. I am going to go to Bible College and study to be a pastor to look after people.” I went up to the mountains, I fasted and prayed for 6 days and Jill stayed at home and she was also fasting and praying, and God gave us one scripture. We both got the same scripture, can you believe that? I came home, I said, “I have got the answer”. She smiled and she said, “I know, I have got it too.” God gave us a scripture that you can find in 2 Corinthians 9:8: “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.” “Stay on the farm, don't give it away. Make it a place for My Holy Spirit to move.” And look what has happened since then! Yes, we have made employment on the farm, we had a children's home on this farm, we have a church on the farm. We started one of the men's movements in the world on this farm, written books, made movies. Just be careful that you don't give up your trade because you probably have more impact on people than any preacher.God bless you and goodbye.

We're so glad you're here. Our prayer is that this series through the book of 1 Thessalonians stirs up passion and authenticity in your walk with Christ. In this early letter from Paul, his words of affirmation to the church in Thessalonica reveal the genuine purpose and heart of God's people. What he wrote to encourage them still speaks powerfully to us today—reminding us what it means to live out a real faith within a real faith family. Thanks again for joining us as we spend time together in God's Word.

Be Ready for Every Good Work
A Prayer for God to Continue the Good Word He Has Started by: Gina Smith Parenting doesn’t end when our kids become adults—it simply changes form. In this episode from Gina Smith, we reflect on the truth of Philippians 1:6 and the lifelong process of trusting God to continue His good work in our children. From the early days of learning that every child is uniquely created, to the complex seasons of parenting adult children, this devotion reminds us that God is the one shaping their hearts and guiding their growth. Reference: Philippians 1:6 Prayer: Father, thank you for the promise that you will complete the good work that you have begun in my children, in me, and in our family. Help me to rely on you as you grow my children into their new roles as adults and help me to not have expectations or make everything about me. Help me to be able to patiently step back and allow them to learn and grow as adults and help me to continue to grow and learn in my new role as mom of adult children. I want it all about you and your work in their lives, and not about me and what I hope our relationship might look like. In this episode, Paul tells the Philippian church that it was God who began the work, and will continue the work until it is complete!
We've all been there—reaching for things we hope will fill us up, only to find ourselves still thirsty. Maybe it's scrolling for connection, working for validation, or shopping for satisfaction. These "broken cisterns," as Jeremiah calls them, can't hold what we're really longing for. But here's the beautiful truth: God offers us something better—a spring of living water that never runs dry. And when we drink from that source, something amazing happens. The grace we receive doesn't just stay inside us; it flows out through our lives in meaningful ways. We were literally created for good works—not to earn God's love, but to express it. The work we do, the character we build, the fruit we produce—it all becomes an overflow of being loved and filled by the right Source. So the question isn't whether you're perfect or have it all together. The question is simply this: Where are you going when you're thirsty? Because what we turn to shapes not just our own lives, but everyone watching. And when people see us drinking from living water, they start to wonder where they might find it too.
