I have tried to model this for him and we talk about the importance of putting in the work to be good at sports, music, etc. However, he seems to give minimal effort on these pursuits and becomes frustrated and makes excuses when we encourage him to apply himself." - Eddie

Organisational psychologist Dr Kat Page has spent two decades researching workplace wellbeing and happiness at work. She is a Leadership Partner at ByMany, Adjunct Professor, and author of Good Work a book that makes the case that burnout is a design problem, not a people problem. In this episode of the Leadership Odysseys podcast, Dr Kat Page and Kirsty Ghahramani (Gee) explore what happiness actually means, how good leadership shapes the conditions people work in, and why designing better work is the most important lever any leader has. From a Goat Farm to a Life's Work Kat grew up on a 40-acre property in Benalla, Victoria, a writer from primary school age. When she landed on happiness research at Deakin University at 21, she knew immediately it was what she was meant to do. Two decades of organisational psychology research followed — and a book that needed all of it to be written properly. "I was just in my happy place, no pun intended, studying happiness." What Happiness at Work Actually Means Most people sit between a six and eight on the happiness scale regardless of what happens to them. The deeper form of happiness, flourishing comes from living in alignment with your values and feeling like your life matters. Kat's practical tip for leaders and founders: do a values card sort, rank your top three, and use them to make decisions. At any point in time, she says, there are only three values you can truly live by. "Happiness is really about having someone to love, something to do, and something to contribute towards." Why Fixing Work, Not People, Is the Answer to Burnout The central argument of Good Work is that poorly designed work not a lack of individual resilience is driving the workplace wellbeing and burnout crisis. Kat's Six Cs framework describes what good work looks like in practice: clarity, control, competence, connection, contribution, and care. Each one is a design choice. And each one, when absent, quietly depletes people who are trying to do a good job. "Work is a social determinant of mental health. Fix work, and you improve outcomes at scale." The Loneliness Nobody Talks About Kat admits she has experienced loneliness herself, despite being surrounded by people constantly. In a world of Zoom meetings, Slack messages, and back-to-back calendars, genuine human connection at work is increasingly rare. The antidote, she says drawing on researcher Zach Mercurio's work on mattering, is not more contact — it is the feeling that you matter to someone. "How rare it is to have someone say: I see you. I see how hard you have been working." The Me, We, Us Framework for Good Work Good Work is organised around three layers that every leader can act on. Me is your own energy, recovery, and non-negotiables. We is the space between people — connection, psychological safety, and how leadership is felt in the moments between conversations. Us is the organisational system: culture, work design, and the structures that either protect people or erode them. Knowing which level a problem lives at is the starting point for solving it. "Good work is not a luxury. It is a design choice and a shared responsibility." This episode of the Leadership Odysseys podcast was recorded 1 May 2025. She owns her worth. She makes her work visible. She shows up, delivers, and has stopped waiting quietly in the background. And she is still not getting where she wants to go.Sound familiar? Then this is the episode you have been waiting for.In Week 3 of the Visibility series, we'll name the third piece of the equation that most high-achievers are missing, the strategic layer that transforms good performance and visible work into real career momentum. It comes down to three things: relationships (who actually knows you, not just what you do), reputation (what people say when you are not in the room, and whether it is moving you forward or keeping you in place), and positioning (being deliberate about where you are going and making sure the right people know it). This is where everything from the last three weeks connects into a picture you can actually act on.In this episode:The three-part visibility equation: worth + visibility + strategyWhy reliable is not always the reputation that gets you to the next levelThe five people whose opinion most shapes your career and how to invest in those relationships intentionallyHow to find out what you are actually known for (and the question most people never ask)Positioning: how to tell the right people where you are going, and why most people never doThree practices, one for each piece, to start this week

0:00 - Hockey hits are truly different than any other sport. You're not just colliding with other humans. You're getting slammed full force into immovable planks of solid wood, by huge humans moving at high speeds. There's no other sport like it.Also, we were critical of Jared Bednar yesterday for sticking with MacKenzie Blackwood in net for Game 4. It seemed like a solution in search of a problem. And today, we're here to eat crow. Clearly Bedsie knows that goalie room better than anyone else, and that's all that matters. But now, here's where it gets really interesting...who starts in net tomorrow for Game 5?17:05 - Josh Manson clearly got in Michael McCarron's head last night. Manson is a pest. He plays right on that line, but he doesn't cross the line. Every team needs a player like that. Josh Manson is doing to the Wild what Jaden McDaniels did to the Nuggets.32:39 - Some final odds and ends here...The Broncos probably need to a get a restraining order against Von Miller. What happened to Cal Raleigh, who (you could argue) should've won AL MVP over Aaron Judge? Is it okay to send a tweet to the group chat during the waining seconds of a playoff game? LaMelo Ball's partner is named Ana Montana, and they named their son LaOne? Huh?

Every May, a new wave of talented creatives enters the market—and here's the reality: their work is good. Really good. Which means "doing great work" is no longer a differentiator… it's the baseline. In this episode of Beyond the Image, James Patrick breaks down what he's seeing firsthand from reviewing hundreds of student portfolios—and why it should be a wake-up call for working professionals. If your strategy for growth is built on your portfolio alone, you're already falling behind. This episode dives into the real drivers of business growth in the creative industry, including the critical difference between reactive and proactive marketing. James unpacks why websites and social media aren't enough, how outbound efforts like cold outreach and strategic networking actually generate revenue, and why most creatives are unknowingly stalling their own momentum. If you want to stay competitive, build real relationships, and consistently land work, this is the shift you need to make.

Today, we are talkingabout the good work that God is doing. We areconfident, and we can have full assurance that God, who began the work in us,will complete it until Jesus Christ comes. We can live a confident, joyful lifedespite our circumstances because it is God who began that good work. We areconfident of that very thing. Iwant us to think about that phrase, “a good work”. What is that work?First, I could not help but think about the “good work” of creation in Genesis1. For each of the six days, God made something, and God was pleased with whatHe had made and said it was good. Then in verse 31, “God saw everything thatHe had made, and indeed it was very good. The evening and the morning were thesixth day”. Thennotice in Genesis 2:1-3, at least three times we read the word “work.” “Thusthe heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. “Andon the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He restedon the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessedthe seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His workwhich God had created and made.” Colossians1:16-17 tells us that, “For by Him all things were created that are inheaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones ordominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him andfor Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.” Thisis the work of creation that God began, and God is sustaining that creationthrough Jesus Christ! Thereis also the good work of salvation. The good work of salvation is firstseen in the Old Testament when God promised Adam and Eve in Genesis 3:15 thatthe seed of the woman would bruise the head of the serpent. Actually, the good workof salvation began in eternity past. We are told in Revelation 13:8: “Allwho dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written inthe Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world”. This“good work” of salvation was being completed when Jesus came. Hesaid in John 4:34, “My food is to do the will of the Father and to finishHis work.” Then in John 17:4, just before He goes to the cross, Jesus says,“I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.” Then on thecross, in John 19:30, Jesus said, “It is finished.” On the cross, Hefinished that work. What is the good work of God? The good work of God is thework of salvation. Thegood work of God is also the work of transformation and sanctification. In 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 we read: “Now may the God of peace Himselfsanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preservedblameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is He who calls you,who also will do it.” Going back to Philippians 2:13, the apostle Paulwrites to the church at Philippi, “For it is God who works in you both towill and to do of His good pleasure.” This means everything in yourlife—your circumstances, your trials, your victories, your struggles—is a partof that “good work”. It is God Who is working in you and throughyou, even in the hard times. Sometimeswe think that God is only working when life is going well. But sometimes Goddoes His deepest work through times of difficulty. That is when we claim Romans8:28: “For we know that all things work together for good to those who loveGod.” God is shaping our character. He is strengthening our faith. He isteaching us to trust Him. My friend, there is nothing wasted in your life ifyou belong to Jesus Christ. It is all a part of the “good work”that God is doing in you today. And because of it, we can “be confident”! Asyou think about this “good work” that God is doing in you and for you today,I trust that you will be encouraged! Godbless and may you have a wonderful, wonderful day!

I. Mary's Act II. Jesus' Defense III. Our Benefit Scripture Reading: John 12 Text: Mark 14:1-11 Psalter Numbers: 102C, 70B, 62D, 136A
This week we will highlight that Christ's sacrifice destroyed the "dividing wall" between people, transforming former outsiders into fellow citizens and members of God's own household. This biblical foundation is applied through the framework of Belong, Believe, and Become, emphasizing that a sense of community must come before behavioral change. Ultimately, the "good work" the Church is called to perform is the cycle of inviting others to the table of grace, allowing them to find a sense of belonging as they are built together into a living temple for God.

Send a text In this episode of BuddyWalk with Jesus, we step into Matthew 5:13–16, where Jesus tells His disciples, “You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world.” This isn't a call to be loud, flashy, or performative—it's an invitation to a steady, embodied witness that preserves what is good, brings flavor to what is bland, and shines hope into what is dark. We explore what Jesus meant in His original context (salt as preservation and value, light as visibility and guidance), why He connects our “good works” to the Father's glory (not our image), and how to live a public faith without becoming religious performers. If you've ever wondered what it means to make a real difference without losing your soul, this passage is Jesus' roadmap: presence, integrity, and kingdom goodness that can't help but be seen. Scaling an advisory firm is often framed as a tradeoff - more clients and complexity in exchange for less time and flexibility. This episode explores how advisors can grow in a way that protects the lifestyle they want. Andy Panko is the owner of Tenon Financial, an RIA based in Metuchen, New Jersey, that oversees $323 million in assets under management for 105 client households. He joins the show today to share why he chose to hire two additional advisors (even though his solo practice already met his lifestyle goals), as well as why he prioritized hiring mid-career professionals who could operate independently and stay for the long haul. We also discuss how his flat-fee model makes it easier to evaluate the time-and-revenue tradeoffs of adding clients, paying competitive salaries, and growing the team, as well as how he fuels a steady prospect flow through content creation, combats the loneliness of a small remote firm, and has adjusted his workload across seasons of life to be able to focus on his highest priorities.
