Before she became a nurse, she earned a Ph.D. in recreation from Colorado State University where she studied health benefits of leisure in outdoor settings, and has taught health promotion, wellness, and exercise science at the university level. As a registered nurse she has worked in critical care and oncology. While working in traditional healthcare, she found that cancer patients’ needs for restoring quality of life after treatment were not being adequately addressed by the clinical approach to survivorship. Survivorship care plans tell people what they should do for medical followup, but don’t address individual preferences, questions, and needs for a wide range of supportive resources in everyday life outside of the doctor’s office after treatment. Her flagship program, Cancer Harbors®, is a restorative program for cancer survivors who have recently completed treatment, to build new skills to address a variety of issues common to cancer survivors, such as fatigue, physical activity and nutrition, emotional and mental health, cognitive, social, workplace, and occupational functioning, self-advocacy in follow-up care, health literacy, and self-care. Alene is author of Navigating the C: A Nurse Charts the Course for Cancer Survivorship Care, a look at all the stakeholders in healthcare and how each can do a better job of serving cancer survivors’ needs. It’s available in print and Kindle versions on Amazon. She is an advocate for nurses and healthcare professionals in improving their working conditions to better serve patients, and for improving the public’s cancer literacy. Before I created 7 Stitches Boutique I was a kindergarten teacher, military wife and MOM. I loved my life. Then one day we got military orders to move overseas so I had to leave my teaching profession and became, for the first time in my, life a stay-at-home mom. Travel is a huge part of our lives now. In our many travels we have spent a lot of time in planes, trains, and automobiles. And with 5 children I am always looking for ways to make our lives, travel friendly and more comfortable. My husband bought me a sewing machine one Christmas, and had to teach me how to turn it on, LOL. I taught myself to sew after baby #3 and absolutely fell in love with the new ability to be able to create things for my children and those I love. Through my growing interest and our growing lives, I discovered that I could create products designed to enhance our lives and others while traveling. I was then approached by a customer who LOVED my travel pillows. He had a friend who was going through breast reconstruction and asked me to create a pillow that would help alleviate some of her discomfort from the seat-belt. Thus, the creation of “MY BREASTFRIEND”. My mom has since been diagnosed with ovarian cancer and did not have any type of breast/chest surgery but had a port placed so I created the “Port Pal”. I decided to set out to create the most unique as well as the largest variety of travel and recovery products for the most amazing customers from all around the world and those they love. It turns out, the road was more difficult than I imagined. Being a homeschooling mom to 5 and military wife, moving every 2-3 years across the states and overseas has proved to have many challenges. Shipping and working with foreign post offices is a huge challenge when living overseas. And when moving from overseas back to the states or vice versa, I have to shut my business down for several weeks to months unsure of when exactly I would be able to set up and reopen. When it’s time to pull up roots once again, I mail my sewing machine to our next location, pack my fabrics in our suitcases (14 to be exact) and off we go. Ready to hit the ground running once we arrive. My amazing customers have stuck with me every step of the way. Always willing to support me, try new products and refer me to friends. Through it all, we persevered. We continue to add new products and the response has been pure love from everyone who sees or uses them.

Shondelle Solomon discovered her passion for fitness and body transformation upon graduating from Columbia University in 1996. In 2006 years after graduating with her Masters in Sports Medicine from University of Miami, Shondelle established Synergize, a multifaceted small-group personal training center specializing in body fat loss and weight management for adult men and women. ‘I wanted to create an affordable and results-driven alternative to traditional health clubs and one-on-one personal training. I really wanted to help people get permanent, and not ‘quick fix’, results and most of all, have fun doing it.” In June of 2009, Shondelle discovered CrossFit after months of neglecting her own personal fitness regimen. After realizing the effectiveness of the CrossFit methodology, Shondelle became certified as a CrossFit trainer in 2010, and in early 2011 Synergize! became a CrossFit 954. Since, Shondelle has become a Level-3 CrossFit coach and also has earned her credentials as an Eating Psychology Coach, helping individuals explore the deeper riggers of their eating and body issues.
Hello, my name is Deanne Edwards and I founded Shalom Honeycomb in 2016. I started gardening organically in 2010. Over the years I have focused on creating a thoughtful and nourishing garden made up primarily of edible plants. In 2015 I noticed that I had very few pollinators, and I began to wonder what it would be like to bring my own pollinators into the garden, meaning a beehive. I was well aware of colony collapse disorder and the rapidly decreasing bee population. The thought of being part of a movement which supports the health and welfare of the bees felt just right. So, I set out to get my first colony. I went to a class on beekeeping and met other like-minded folks who were out to rescue bees and away I went, joining a group of primarily middle-aged ladies who were dedicated to rescuing bees. As my bees began to produce an abundance of honey I started sharing the honey with family and friends and loved sharing a piece of comb in each jar. I now manage multiple hives and have rescued many pollinator colonies that were in danger of being destroyed. Shalom is a Hebrew word simply translated as “peace.” Shalom, derived from the Hebrew root shalam, which means to be safe, complete, to make happy. Shalom holds rich definition drawn from many traditions to mean prosperity, welfare, tranquility and wholeness, not only for the individual but also for the whole world. Shalom describes the feeling I get when working with the bees and in the eating and sharing their honey.
